Fig. 8 zeigt die Vorrichtung nach Fig. 7 im Schnitt A-B.
Fig. 9 zeigt die Vorrichtung nach Fig. 7 im Schnitt C-D.
Fig. 4) gelegt.
Menstrual tampon and method and device for its manufacture
The present invention relates to menstrual tampons with an absorbent tampon body and a retraction means attached to its rear end, as well as to a method for manufacturing and a device for carrying out the method.
When manufacturing highly absorbent tampons, it was previously not possible to produce them fully automatically. Fully automatic machines for tampons are already known, but they cannot be completely matched to the manufacturing process of tampons in such a way that the fully automatically manufactured tampons have the same quality as the tampons that were previously at least partially manufactured by hand. A full automation of tampons, in which a longitudinal stretching is also desired, has so far failed mainly because the retraction thread of the tampon could either easily get caught in the mechanism of the machine or the retraction thread could be injured and sometimes even sheared during the longitudinal compression of the press ram, if the thread in the pressing tool is not exactly in the right position.
It has therefore previously been necessary to dispense with longitudinal compression in the automatically produced tampons.
According to the invention, these disadvantages are avoided in that, in the case of a menstrual tampon with an absorbent tampon body and a retraction means attached to its rear end, the body is completely enclosed with a sleeve made of moisture-permeable material which protrudes at least at one end to serve as a retraction means . As a result, a number of advantages are achieved in one embodiment of the invention. Since the tampon body is completely surrounded by gauze, parts of the absorbent material of the tampon body can no longer fray. The end of the protruding piece of gauze serving as a retraction means no longer needs to be knotted.
A shearing off of the gauze retraction part during the manufacture of the tampon is now ruled out, since the gauze is much thinner and tougher than the retraction threads that have been used up to now. Even if the gauze retraction part were cut by the press ram during the manufacture of the tampon, the remaining gauze retraction part is still stronger than an intact retraction thread.
The method according to the invention for the production of the menstrual tampon is characterized in that a web-shaped wrapping tape is placed over a material web that will later form the tampon body, then the ends of the wrapping web protruding beyond the material web are pressed together, then divided into sections and then processed further. In a fully automatic embodiment of the manufacturing method according to the invention, the use of gauze instead of a pull-back thread is significantly simplified because only a significantly simpler system for tampon manufacture is required than before. The tampons produced in this way are of a higher quality than tampons which have previously been produced automatically. The upsetting and pressing of the tampons no longer presents any difficulties.
In addition, the absorbency of the tampon can be significantly increased compared to tampons which are manufactured using known methods. Above all, however, contact with the tampon blank and also with the finished tampon when an automatic packaging device is connected is ruled out by human hands.
The device according to the invention for carrying out the production process described is characterized by a guide channel for an absorbent tape and a device for laying and folding the gauze web over this guide channel.
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are explained with the aid of the drawing. It shows some embodiments of the tampon in different stages of manufacture. The drawing also contains a schematic representation of a fully automatic device for producing the tampon.
1 is a perspective illustration of a wadding blank with an extended double gauze retraction part.
FIG. 2 shows the wadding blank according to FIG. 1 with the folded gauze retraction part in a side view.
3 shows a wadding blank with several layers of different materials and a simple gauze retraction part in a side view.
4 is a cross section through the pressing tool with an inserted cotton wool blank and shows how the gauze is connected to one another by the rounding of the tool on the sides.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section through the still closed pressing tool and shows a finished pressed tampon.
6 shows a ready-to-use tampon with the gauze retraction part pulled out.
Figure 7 is a schematic illustration of the tampon blank manufacturing apparatus.
Fig. 8 shows the device according to Fig. 7 in section A-B.
FIG. 9 shows the device according to FIG. 7 in section C-D.
1 and 2 show a tampon blank, the absorbent wadding body 1 of which is folded in its longitudinal center. In the embodiment shown, this fold is at the rear end of the tampon body. The tampon body 1 is surrounded by a hydrophilic gauze 2, the two protruding ends 3 of which serve as a tampon retraction means.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the tampon body is again folded in its longitudinal center, and the fold is located at the rear end of the tampon body. In this embodiment, however, the tampon body is designed in three layers. Before folding, it consists of two outer layers of wadding 4 and an inner layer 5 of cellulose wadding or the like. The folding thus results in six layers, namely two layers of wadding and two intervening layers of cellulose wadding or the like. The arrangement can also be reversed. It is also possible to provide several additional layers. The tampon blank according to FIG. 3 is in turn surrounded by a gauze, one end 6 of which is fixed to the folded tampon end, while the protruding gauze part 7 serves as a retraction means.
The absorbent body of the tampon can also be surrounded by a tubular, seamless cover made of gauze.
This means that a highly absorbent tampon without a seam can be produced fully automatically.
In the embodiments according to FIGS. 2 and 3, points 8 are provided on the lower part of the wadding blank and are wetted with elastic, soft rubber or synthetic resin-like, binding impregnating agents. When the tampon is finished, these wetted areas 8 produce an elastic seal which, on the one hand, aims to secure the saturated tampon against dripping and, on the other hand, simultaneously serves to hold this gauze 2 in place. The gauze covering the tampon body can expediently be attached to the elastic seal. This fastening of the gauze serving as a retraction means is particularly advantageous if one end of the gauze should be sheared off due to any manufacturing errors.
In order to simplify the double retraction means, one end of the gauze can also be placed over the elastic seal and fastened to it, while the second end is designed as a retraction means and is held on the elastic seal.
In the folded wadding body according to FIGS. 1 to 3, the cavity 9 is intentionally clearly shown, since this embodiment has the advantage that the pressed tampon 10, after absorbing moisture at this point 9, tends to open again and in this space the Cotton wool is loosened for maximum absorbency. It is also advantageous that the slot opens inwards when the tampon is inserted, while the folded side 11 of the wadding body is directed outwards.
The wadding fold end 11 at the rear without fiber end also has the advantage that the retention capacity of the blood is improved and, when the tampon is already soaked, the pent-up blood is kept as far away as possible from the impregnated point 8.
4 shows in cross section a closed pressing tool 13 with an inserted tampon blank 12. As shown, the round shape of the interior of the pressing tool 13 and the pressing jaw 14 ensure that the lateral gauze ends 15 and 16 close together and thus the entire wadding body 1 is enclosed with the gauze 2.
In Fig. 5, the completely closed tool is shown in longitudinal section. In this illustration, the pressing tool 13, 14 also contains a finished tampon 10. For better insertion, the front tampon part is provided with a rounded tip 18 which is formed by the counter holder 17.
The rounded end face 18 is essentially formed by a gauze loop which is formed when the tampon blank is compressed in the longitudinal direction. The sleeve loop that is released is tucked into the tip, this gauze loop arranged in the tip 18 offering the moist tampon the opportunity to expand unhindered in the longitudinal direction after insertion without having to pull parts of the covering gauze from behind. The gauze retraction part 3 or 7 is pressed invisibly onto the rear tampon part 19.
To make it easier to expose the gauze retraction part 3 or 7 before inserting the tampon, a detached pin 21 is provided on the plunger 20, which aims to make a well-gripping indentation 22 at the end of the tampon 19 and to press the outer edge 23 less.
The fully automatic method for producing the tampon blank is described below with reference to FIG. A device for carrying out this method is shown schematically there. As can be seen from FIG. 7, the production process from the cotton roll 24 and the gauze roll 34 to the finished tampon runs fully automatically and without touching the tampon blank or the finished tampon by a human hand.
From a cotton wool roll 24, which contains a cotton wool tape 25 of a predetermined thickness and width, this cotton wool tape 25 is drawn into a folding channel 26 by means of a driving feed and forming wheel 27. As can be seen from FIG. 8, the folding channel 26 is bent in such a way that it folds over the cotton swab 25 in half its width. This effect is supported by the driven feed and forming wheel 27 in that this wheel protrudes into the folding channel 26 and presses the fold point 33 of the cotton tape 25 onto the bottom 28 of the folding channel 26. Behind the feed and forming wheel 27, the bottom 28 of the folding channel 26 is excluded at 29. At this point an elastic soft adhesive, e.g. B. brought from a rubber or synthetic resin-like material 30 from a vessel 31 via an application roller 32 to the fold 33 of the cotton tape 25 and this fold 33 is wetted on its outside.
In this way, the sealing of the tampon end and at the same time the fixing of the enveloping gauze can be accomplished without additional work steps, with the advantage that the impregnation or binding agent is covered by the gauze. Of course, an adhesive that is indifferent to the human body is used.
Behind this wetting point, a gauze web or gauze band 36 is placed over the fold groove 26 and the cotton wool band 25 contained in it.
The gauze web 36 is drawn off from a gauze roller 34 via a guide roller 35 and laid evenly over the channel 26, which is closed at the top at this point, by a double flange wheel 37, as shown in FIG. The gauze ends 3 (see. FIGS. 1, 2 and 6) are grasped by laterally vertically arranged driven folding rollers 38 and folded in a zigzag shape.
Behind the vertically arranged folding rollers 38 there is a horizontally arranged pressure roller 39 which presses the zigzag folded gauze ends 3 against the impregnated binding point or the fold 33 of the cotton tape 25. As a result, the parts of the gauze tape designed as retraction means lie cleanly and firmly against the tampon body for the further steps of the manufacturing process for the tampon. This eliminates any risk of the parts of the gauze band serving as retraction means being sheared off or damaged when the tampon is pressed.
To produce a tampon in which one end 6 of the gauze 2 (cf. FIG. 3) is fixed at the point 8 wetted with binding and impregnating agents and the other end 7 of the gauze 2 is designed as a retraction means, the method and the device shown can be used in a simple manner in that the gauze roll 34 and the gauze tape 36 are shifted so far to one side that one edge of the gauze tape 36 only protrudes as far over the fold 33 as is required for fastening the gauze end 6 on the wetted point 8 is necessary.
After the gauze tape 36 is fixed on the cotton wool tape 25, the cotton wool tape 25 leaves the channel 26, so that the gauze tape 36 lies directly over the folded cotton wool tape 25 and gives it its hold. The entire strip of blanks then runs onto a table 40 and is rotated 90 "by two folding rollers 41 and placed flat on the table 40. From there, the strip of blanks moves through two further driven press rollers 42 to a circular knife 43, which is set in a uniform 1 to 3. The cut tampon blanks 44 are then guided to the tampon press via an automatic transport device and there automatically onto the opened clamping jaw 45 (see FIG. 4) laid.
The press jaw 14 then first completely guides the blank 44 into the press tool 13 when it closes. The lateral pressing process is carried out until a pad diameter of about 12 mm is reached. As soon as the tampon blank is completely inserted into the pressing tool, the pressing jaw 14 presses it into a round shape, as can also be seen from FIG. 5. The round pressed blank is then compressed by about 500/0 in the longitudinal direction. The counter holding punch 17 of the pressing tool has already been closed with the closing jaw 45. The only thing left to do now is to introduce the ram 20, through which the tampon 10 is compressed, as the last working step.
When a desired set pressure is reached, the counter-holding ram 17 opens much faster than the press ram 20 moves, and the finished tampon 10 is thereby pushed out of the pressing tool 13 through the opening that has become free. After the finished tampon 10 has been ejected, the pressing device returns to its starting position in which it is ready to receive a new blank.
An automatic packaging device for the finished tampons is expediently connected to the pressing device.
