Handpiece for dental bur
The present invention relates to a handpiece for a dental burr comprising an air turbine, the wheel of which is carried by a hollow spindle intended to receive the burr.
The handpiece object of the invention is charac terized in that said pin comprises an axially movable elastic clamp that a spring tends to maintain in a rear clamping position and which is capable of being pushed forward, with a view to its opening, by means of a pusher arranged behind the spindle, said pusher being formed by a button independent of the spindle which a spring maintains in a rest position separated from the latter.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the handpiece, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1, on a larger scale.
Fig. 4 is a view of a removable cannula included in the illustrated embodiment of the handpiece.
Fig. 5 is a partial view, on a larger scale, of a detachable connector included in the illustrated embodiment of the handpiece.
The handpiece 1, shown detached from the supply pipe in FIG. 1, has a tubular body 2 in one of the ends of which is placed an air turbine, the wheel 3 of which is carried by a hollow spindle 4 intended to receive an interchangeable cutter shown schematically at 5.
The spindle 4, placed transversely with respect to the axis of the handpiece, rotates in two ball bearings 6, 6 'placed on either side of the vanes 3' of the wheel 3 which are formed in one piece with pin 4 (see fig. 3). The ball bearings are placed in circular flanges 7 and 8 which are screwed into the body 2, at the ends of a cylindrical bore intended to house the turbine.
The driving air is supplied to the impeller 3 by a converging nozzle 9 placed at the end of a supply tube 10 housed inside the body 2. This tube is supported by a cross member 11 arranged in the vicinity of the nozzle and by a wall 12 which defines a chamber 13 in the rear end of the body.
The pressurized air brought into this chamber 13 flows from it through the tube 10 and forms at the outlet of the nozzle 9 a jet which drives the wheel of the turbine.
As visible in fig. 1, this air jet is located in the central plane of the wheel 3, the blades of which have semi-cylindrical recesses 14 located on either side of this plane, intended to direct the air jet backwards , after it hit dawn.
As visible in fig. 2, the wheel 3 of the turbine is surrounded over most of its periphery by the circular wall 15 located very close to the periphery of the wheel.
The air used by the wheel, once returned to the rear following its deflection on the blades, flows towards the rear end of the handpiece, through the cavity 16 of the body of the latter, and escapes through a series of openings 17 drilled in the body of the handpiece in the vicinity of its rear end, in a position located behind the hand of the operator who will hold the handpiece by a central part of the latter not shown in FIG. 1.
The handpiece shown comprises a spray device which has a nozzle 18 adjacent to the spindle 4 intended to project a jet of cooling water onto the bur 5. This nozzle 18 is formed by the front end of a cannula. removable 19 formed of a tube of small diameter 20 fixed by its rear end in a head 21 of larger diameter axially drilled with a hole communicating with the tube 20 and which has a screw thread by means of which it is held in a central housing formed in a generally cylindrical part 22 which closes the end of the handpiece. A gasket 23 seals between the head 21 and the part 22.
The tube 20 of the cannula is housed in a fixed tube 24 which forms in the handpiece a guide well for the cannula which can easily be withdrawn from the handpiece, by the posterior end of the latter, once it has been removed. -Here detached from a supply pipe described below, which joins the part 22. The cannula can thus be easily replaced, which facilitates maintenance of the handpiece.
The tube 20 constituted for example by a metal tube 0.25 to 0.65 mm in diameter has sufficient flexibility to allow its introduction into the non-rectilinear tube 24 without requiring its prior shaping. The cannula 19 can thus have a rectilinear shape, as shown in FIG. 4, before it is put in place, and the anterior end of the tube 20 which protrudes slightly from the tube 24 can also be more or less bent to modify the direction of the cooling jet.
As shown in fig. 5, the handpiece is assembled by means of a detachable connection to a supply pipe 25 formed of two coaxial tubes delimiting conduits 26 and 27 intended to supply, the first, the compressed air for the turbine and, the second, water for the sprinkler device.
At the end of the pipe 25, is placed a part 28 on which the outer tube of the pipe 25 is fixed by means of a sleeve 29, the inner tube of the pipe being threaded on a central tube 30 welded to the part 28.
The duct 26, intended for the passage of air, communicates through a series of parallel holes 31 drilled in a circle in the part 28 with a circular groove 32 located on the upper face of the latter.
The part 22 of the handpiece has a similar arrangement, holes 31 ′ communicating an annular groove 32 ′ with the chamber 13 into which the tube 10 opens and the channel of the cannula 19 being aligned with a hole 33 which extends the inner tube for the passage of water.
A seal 34, made of rubber or any other elastic material, is placed between the two parts 22 and 28, this seal being pierced with the necessary holes to establish communication, on the one hand, between the two grooves 32, 32 'and, on the other hand, between the hole 33 and the cannula 19.
On the part 28 is mounted an elastic clamp consisting of a steel sleeve 35 cut into eight segments by longitudinal slots extending over the major part of its height. These segments have in the vicinity of their free end internal hooks such as that visible at 40 in FIG. 5, intended, in the assembled position of the connector, to bear on a bearing face 37 provided der rière a circular shoulder 38 of the part 22 of the handpiece.
A locking ring 39, movable axially on the sleeve 35 and which is shown in the withdrawn position on the left half of FIG. 5 and in the advanced position on the right half of this figure, allows the elastic sleeve 35 to be tightened on the male part 22, in order to block the connection.
In the withdrawn position from the ring 39, the segments of the sleeve 35 have sufficient elasticity to allow the introduction and release of the handpiece, which, once threaded under normal pressure in the sleeve, comes to bear on the joint 34 and occupies the axial position shown in the left half of FIG. 5, in which the hooks 40 bear elastically, by their end, on the edge of the bearing face 37.
The bearing face 37 and the cooperating face of the hooks 40 are inclined on the axis of the sleeve so that the clamping of the clamp in contact with the bearing face 37 of the shoulder causes the sinking of the part. male 22 in the clamp, and thus the compression of the elastic seal 34 which ensures a perfect seal between the two parts of the connector.
As visible in fig. 3, the hollow spindle 4 comprises an elastic clamp 41 intended to receive the shank of the milling cutter 5. This clamp has a clamping cone 41 '. A spring 42 bearing on a ring 43 integral with the clamp tends to maintain it in its rear clamping position shown on the left half of FIG. 3.
In order to allow the clamp to be pushed forward, in order to cause it to open, there is provided a push-button 44 slidably mounted in a bore of the flange 7 and that a compression spring 45 bearing on a washer 46 tends to maintain in the rest position shown in the left half of FIG. 3, in which it is located away from the rotary spindle 4.
To open the clamp, it suffices to exert pressure on the button 44 with a view to bringing it into the depressed working position shown in the right half of FIG. 3.
Due to the fact that this button 44 is independent of the rotating spindle 4, it remains stationary during the use of the milling cutter, so that with the exception of the milling cutter 5, the handpiece has no external part in movement.
