Process for the preparation of water-insoluble monoazo dyes It has been found that new valuable monoazo dyes are obtained if one uses a diazotized cyananiline which, as any further substituents, only has a methylsulfonyl group and / or low molecular weight alkyl groups and / or trifluoromethyl groups and / or halogen atoms contains,
combined with a monoamine of the benzene series coupling in the p-position to the amino group, in whose amino group at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced by a cyanoalkyl radical.
The cyananilines used as starting materials in the present process preferably contain 1 to 2 cyano groups. Possible further substituents are low molecular weight alkyl groups, expediently those with not more than 4 carbon atoms and in particular methyl groups, further halogen atoms, for example bromine atoms, preferably chlorine atoms.
Diazo components of the formula prove to be particularly valuable

into consideration, where R1 is an H atom, an alkyl group containing at most 4 C atoms, an oxyethyl group, dioxypropyl or a cyanoethyl group, R3 is an H atom, a methyl group, a chlorine or bromine atom and R4 is an H- Mean atom, a methyl or meihoxy group.
The following amines may be mentioned as examples: N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, 1- [N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-amino] -3-methyl-benzene, 1- [N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-amino] -3-chlorobenzene, N-ethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, N-methyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, N-butyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, 1- [N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-amino] -2,5-dimethyl-benzene, 1- [N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-amino] -2-methoxy-5-methyl-benzene,
N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, N, N-bis-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene. The diazotization of the aminocyanobenzenes mentioned can be carried out by methods known per se, eg. B. with the help of mineral acid, especially hydrochloric acid, and sodium nitrite or z. B. with a solution of nitrosylsulfuric acid in conc. Sulfuric acid.
The coupling can also be known per se, for. B. in neutral to acidic Me medium, optionally in the presence of sodium acetate or similar, the coupling speed influential buffer substances and / or in the presence of catalysts, such as. B. pyridine or its salts can be made.
After the coupling reaction, the dyes formed can easily from the coupling mixture, for. B. by filtration, because they are only sparingly soluble in water.
The new monoazo dyes obtained correspond to the formula
EMI0002.0026
where A is a benzene radical which, in addition to the specified substituents, can have at most low molecular weight alkyl groups, trifluoromethyl groups or halogen atoms, B denotes a benzene radical in which the azo group and the amino group are in the p-position to one another and the other than the specified substituents are still in the p position further z.
B. low molecular weight alkyl, oxyalkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, X stands for an H atom, a cyano group or a methylsulfonyl group, alk. an alkylene radical, preferably an ethylene radical, and R preferably an H atom, a low molecular weight alkyl, oxyalkyl or cyanoalkyl radical.
These new monoazo dyes, especially those of the formula
EMI0002.0054
are very suitable for dyeing and printing structures, e.g. B. Fibers and fabrics made from cellulose esters and ethers, but especially for dyeing acetate rayon, triacetate and polyester fibers, as well as structures made of super-polyurethanes, super-polyamides, for example synthetic, linear polyamides and polyurethanes,
as well as mixed fabrics made from polyamide and acetate synthetic silk threads or for dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibers.
The dyeings produced on such structures with these new dyes are characterized by the particular purity and liveliness of their hue and by good general fastness properties, in particular by high lightfastness and good sublimation fastness. In addition, they dye polyamide fibers in practically the same shade as the acetate artificial silk threads and have good resistance to smoke gases on the latter as well as on the triacetate fibers.
In the examples below, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 19.6 parts of 1-amino-4-cyano-2-methylsulfonylbenzene are added in portions to 60 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid in which 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite have been dissolved. A clear solution is obtained by pouring onto 400 parts of ice. The diazo solution thus obtained is allowed to slowly flow into a solution of 17.4 parts of N-ethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene in 40 parts of 2N hydrochloric acid.
By adding saturated sodium acetate solution, the brown-orange-red dye is precipitated, which has the formula
EMI0002.0087
possesses, melts at 182 to 186, and dyes acetate silk and the polyamide fibers in orange-red shades of high lightfastness.
Example 2 If, in the above example, N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene is used instead of the azo component mentioned, a dark red dye which melts at 184 to 188 and dyes acetate silk in orange shades of high lightfastness is obtained .
The 1-amino-4-cyano-2-methylsulfonyl-benzene used as the diazo component can, for. B. be obtained in the following way: 1-chloro-2-methylsulfonylbenzene is nitrated to 1-chloro-4-nitro-2-methylsulfonylbenzene. The nitro group is reduced to the amino group and then converted into the cyano group using the Sandmeyer method. Finally
the chlorine atom is substituted by an amino group with alcoholic ammonia solution.
Dyeing instructions 1 part of the dyestuff pasted with sulphite waste liquor according to Example 1 is made into a paste with about 50 parts of 30 to 40 parts of water and then added to the dyebath through a fine sieve. One goes with 100 parts of acetate silk yarn at 40 to 50 in the dyebath, the temperature is gradually increased to 75 to 80 and allowed to take off at this temperature for one hour rend. It is then finished as usual, and you get an orange-red dyeing of high lightfastness.
If a corresponding amount of superpolyamide (nylon thread) is used instead of acetate silk, a similar coloration is obtained.
