Process for the preparation of azo dyes It has been found that by coupling a diazo component with an azo component, valuable, new azo dyes are obtained by known processes, if the components are chosen so that the dyes obtained have at least one aromatically bound ss-cyano äthylsulfongruppe have.
The monoazo dyes obtained can optionally be treated with metal donors.
The cyanoethyl sulfone groups can be present both in the diazo component and in the azo component or in both. Of particular interest, however, are those dyes which contain the Cyanoäthylsulfongnippe in the diazo component and are free of sulfonic acid and carboxyl groups.
As a diazo component, a cyano ethylsulfone group-containing amine of the benzene series is used with advantage, in particular one of the formula
EMI0001.0030
wherein X is hydrogen, halogen, a nitro, cyano, cyanoalkylsulfone group, a methyl, trifluoromethyl or methylsulfonyl group, Y is hydrogen,
Halogen or a methyl group and n 1 or 2 be. In addition, those diazo components are also suitable which contain an oxy or alkoxy group in the o-position to the amino group.
The following amines may be listed as examples of diazo components: 1-amino-benzene-4-cyanoethylsulfone, 1-amino-4-cyano-2- or -3-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-cyano-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl benzene, 1-amino-2-chloro-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-4-chloro- or -4-bromo-2-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-methyl-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2,4- or -2,5-di- (cyanoethylsulfonyl)
- Benzene, 1-Amino-4-nitro-2-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-Amino-2,5- or -2,6-dichloro-4-cyanoethylsulfonylbenzene, 1-Amino-5-trifluoromethyl-2-cyanoethylsulfonyl - benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-4- or -5-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-3-nitro-5-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-5-chloro -3-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-3-chloro-5-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene,
1-Amino-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl-naphthalene, 1-amino-2-methylsulfonyl-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene.
If the azo component has a cyanoäthylsulfongruppe, cyanoäthylsulfon- free amines can be used as diazo components, z.
B. aniline and its derivatives substituted by alkyl, nitro, cyano, sulfonic acid or sulfonamide groups or halogen atoms, such as 1-amino-4-nitro-benzene, 1-amino-2-chloro-4 -nitro-benzene, 1-amino-4-chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2,5-dichlorobenzene, 1-amino-4-methyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-4-nitro- or -chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-3,5-dinitro-benzene,
1-amino-2-oxy-3- or -4-nitro-5-chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-3-nitro-5-methyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-benzene- 4- or -5-sulfonamide, 1-amino-2-oxy-benzene-4- or -5-sulfonic acid, 1-amino-2-oxy-3-nitro-benzene-5-sulfonamide, 1-amino-2- oxy-3-nitro-benzene-5-sulfonic acid. As azo components, those primarily come into consideration
which are free of sulfonic acid and carboxyl groups and belong to the benzene series, for example phenols such as p-cresol, in particular, however, monoamines coupling in the p-position to the amino group, in whose amino group at least one hydrogen atom is replaced by an alkyl, oxyalkyl, Haloalkyl or cyanoalkyl radical is substituted.
Azo components of the formula prove to be particularly suitable
EMI0002.0017
where R1 is an alkyl group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, an oxyethyl, dioxypropyl, di-fluoroethyl or cyanoethyl group, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, an oxyethyl,
Difluoroethyl or cyanoethyl group, R3 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a chlorine or bromine atom and R4 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl or methoxy group.
Examples include: N-oxyethyl aniline, N, N-D1- (oxyethyl) aniline, N-methyl or N-ethyl-N-oxyethyl aniline, N-butyl-N-oxyethyl aniline, N, N-di- (cyanoethyl) -aniline, N-oxyethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aniline, N-cyanoethyl-N-ethyl-aniline, as well as their derivatives substituted in the m-position to the amino group by a methyl group or a chlorine atom, furthermore 1- [N, N-di (oxyethyl) amino] -2,
5-dimethyl-benzene or 1- (N-ethyl-N-oxyethyl-amino) -2-methoxy-5-methyl-benzene.
In addition to the azo components of the benzene series already mentioned, there are also those of the naphthalene series, for example oxynaphthalenes such as 1-oxynaphthalene,
EMI0002.0061
where X, Y, RI to R4 and n have the given meaning, are very suitable for dyeing and printing fibers and fabrics of cellulose esters and ethers,
But mainly for dyeing acetate artificial silk and structures, super polyamides and urethanes as well as mixed fabrics made of poly amide and acetate artificial silk fibers. These dyes are also suitable for dyeing polyester and polyacrylonitrile fibers.
5-chloro-l-oxy-naphthalene, 5,8-dichlor-l-oxy-naphthalene, 2-oxy-naphthalene, 1-acetylamino-7-oxy-naphthalene, 4,8- or -5,8-dichloro 2-oxy-naphthalene, 2-oxy-6-cyanoethylsulfonyl-naphthalene, 2-oxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonamide, aminonaphthalenes such as 1- or 2-amino-naphthalene, 2-amino-6-cyanoethylsulfonyl-naphthalene are possible.
Further suitable azo components are pyrazolone derivatives, for example 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 2,3-diphenyl-5-pyrazolone, 1- (4'-chlorophenyl ) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 5-pyrazolone-3-carboxamides or acyl acetic arylides, in particular acetoacetic anilides, for example acetoacetic anilide or -o-chloro-anfide and oxyquinolines,
for example 2,4-dioxyquinoline or barbituric acid.
The components containing cyanoethylsulphone groups are expediently prepared by adding acrylonitrile to the corresponding arylsulphinic acids, which are known to be obtained by reduction from the corresponding sulphochlorides.
The diazotization of the amines can be carried out by methods known per se, e.g. B. with the help of mineral acids, especially hydrochloric acid, and sodium nitrite or z. B. be done with a solution of nitrosylsulfuric acid in concentrated sulfuric acid.
The coupling can also be carried out by methods known per se, in an acidic, neutral to alkaline medium.
When using amino compounds as azo components, the coupling is expediently carried out in an acidic to neutral medium.
The monoazo dyes obtained by the present process can be used for dyeing various materials. In particular dyes of the formula The dyeings produced on such structures with these new dyes are distinguished by the particular purity and liveliness of their hue and by good general fastness properties, in particular by high lightfastness and good fastness to sublimation and smoke gas.
In the following example, unless otherwise specified, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example
EMI0003.0001
21 parts of 1-amino-4-cyanoethylsulfonyl-benzene, 25 parts of a 4N sodium nitrite solution and 30 parts of ice are added to 40 parts of water with 25 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The temperature is kept at 0 to 5 by cooling from the outside. The completely clear diazo solution is allowed to slowly flow into 17.4 parts of N-ethyl-N-cyanoethyl-aminobenzene, which is dissolved in 40 parts of 2N hydrochloric acid.
By adding saturated sodium acetate solution, the coupling is accelerated and the dye is precipitated. The sucked off and dried dye is an orange-red powder, which has the formula 1 and dyes acetate silk and polyamide fibers in yellow-orange shades of good lightfastness.
If 19 parts of N-oxyethyl-N-cyano-ethyl-amino-benzene are used instead of the specified coupling components, a dye with similar properties is obtained.
If 19.5 parts of N, N-di- (B-oxy-ethyl) -amino-3-methylbenzene are used instead of the azo component given in paragraph 1, an orange-red powder is obtained, which contains acetate silk and polyamide fibers orange-red tones of good lightfastness.
The 1-amino-4-cyanoethylsulfonylbenzene used as the diazo component in the present example can be prepared by a known process by adding acrylonitrile to N-acetyl-1-aminobenzene-4-sulfinic acid and then splitting off the acetyl group can be obtained.
(See PB report 58769, pages 372-376.) Dyeing instructions 1. Part of the dyestuff pasted with sulphite waste liquor according to the example is made into a paste with about 50 parts of water from 30 to 40 and then through the dye bath added a fine sieve. 100 parts of acetate silk yarn are placed in the dyebath at 40 to 50, the temperature is gradually increased to 75 to 80 and allowed to draw out at this temperature for one hour. It is then finished as usual, and you get a yellow-orange color with good lightfastness.
If a corresponding amount of superpolyamide (nylon thread) is used instead of acetate silk, a similar coloration is obtained.
