<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ventilteller 71 in Berührung kommt.

Method for securing a burner and securing device for a burner for carrying out this method. The present invention relates to a method for securing a burner, the fuel supply to the burner being monitored depending on the heating state of a thermocouple, and a securing device for a burner for carrying out this Procedure.
Such a backup method for a burner is z. B. in patent no. 344388 of the applicant and has the great advantage that fuel supply to the burner is only possible if the temperature sensor has been heated beforehand, which is also a prerequisite for the fuel introduced immediately is ignited.
With such a safety system, however, it cannot be avoided that it responds with a certain sluggishness, which means that the heating of the thermocouple required to introduce the fuel must last a certain time, and that, in particular, if the burner goes out unintentionally, a A certain time elapses until the temperature sensor has cooled down enough for the safety device to respond and stop the fuel supply to the burner. If the burner goes out, a possibly considerable amount of fuel can still flow out unburned until the safety device responds. This is particularly important in closed combustion chambers, such as
B. in the oven of gas stoves, disadvantageous. Basically the same difficulties arise with the security method described in patent no. 338804.
According to the method according to the present invention, this undesirable inertia of the burner fuse equipped with a thermocouple is counteracted by increasing the response speed of the fuse by reducing the temperature difference between the contact points of the thermocouple during operation of the burner. In the device according to the invention, this is achieved in that the contact points of the thermocouple with respect to the burner and with respect to one another are arranged in a position which reduces the temperature difference between the contact points during operation of the burner.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the safety device according to the invention for a gas burner are shown schematically, on the basis of which the method according to the invention is explained below, for example.
Fig. 1 shows a burner with its regulating member, which is equipped with a first type of safety device, and Fig. 2 shows a burner which is equipped with a second type of safety device.
The burner has a mixing tube 61 and a burner cover 62, between which the gas-air mixture emerges during operation and burns in a flame 63. The burner is fed from a nozzle 64 of a regulating element 65. The regulating needle 64 'protruding into the nozzle 64, to which an electromagnet with a remanence-free core 66 and a winding 67 is also connected, can be moved in the axial direction by an actuating screw 70 via a lever linkage 68 and a membrane 69 in order to regulate the amount of gas. At the magnet 66,
67 an armature 71 designed as a valve disk adheres in the state shown, which under the influence of a strong, downward-acting compression spring 72 and a weaker,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
upwardly acting compression spring 73 is and is intended to work together with a valve seat 75 of the gas supply line 76. The winding 67 of the magnet is connected by means of two lines to a hot contact point H, which is heated to a higher temperature by the flame 63 during operation, at one end of a thermocouple conductor 74 or to a second cold contact point K at the other end of the conductor 74.
The contact point H is, as mentioned, in the area of the flame 63, while the contact point K is in the immediate vicinity of the mixing tube 61.
Securing the burner by means of the device shown works as follows: In the operating state shown, the contact point H of the thermocouple is heated to a relatively high temperature which is above the temperature of the contact point K. However, the contact point K is also brought to an elevated temperature by the mixing tube which heats up during operation. The temperature difference between the contact points H and K is selected so that a current flows in the winding 67 of the magnet of such strength that the magnet core 66 is able to hold the armature 71 against the action of the compression spring 72.
If the flame 63 goes out for some reason with the regulating member open, the exposed contact point H cools down relatively quickly, while the contact point K cools down much more slowly, especially because it had reached a lower temperature and because it is already moving slowly in the area of the cooling mixing tube is located. A state is thus quickly reached in which the temperature difference between the contact points H and K is no longer sufficient to ensure sufficient excitation of the magnet 66, 67, and the armature 71 is therefore separated from the magnet by the spring 72 and against the Valve seat 75 pressed. This interrupts the gas supply to the burner.
The backup also responds when z. B. the combustion strikes back to the nozzle 64, which can happen especially with small fires. In this case, the contact point H is still heated by the combustion gases flowing out of the burner, but the mixing tube and thus the contact point K are heated relatively much more strongly, so that in this case too the temperature difference between the contact points H and K is reduced so much that the gas supply to the burner is interrupted in the manner described above.
With a suitable arrangement of the contact point K, it can even happen that this point becomes warmer than the contact point H, with the current flow in the electromagnet being reversed. Since there is a moment when there is no current flowing, the fuse responds reliably in this case too.
If the burner is to be put back into operation, the magnet 66, 67 is lowered by means of the screw 70 over the membrane 69 and the rod 68 so that the magnet core 66 comes into contact with the armature or valve disk 71 again. Then the contact point H of the thermocouple z. B. heated by means of a burning match until the flowing current is sufficient to raise the valve disc with the magnet 66, 67 again. This is done by turning the screw 70 in the opposite direction, with the spring 73 lifting the parts 71 and 64 now coupled by the magnet, with which gas can flow to the burner.
The mixture emerging from the burner is ignited by the match and now ensures the further heating of the thermocouple at the contact point H. During operation, the mixing tube 61 and the contact point K also gradually heats up, so that again in the permanent operating state the favorable conditions described above for a rapid response of the fuse when the burner goes out are created.
The fact that the thermocouple supplies sufficient current to excite the magnet 66, 67 at a relatively small temperature difference between its contact points, has the further advantage that the contact point H is relatively quickly heated enough to open when the burner is started up to enable the regulating member in the manner described.
According to FIG. 2, essentially the same objectives are achieved in that the contact points H and K of the thermocouple are arranged as close to one another as possible. In this way, too, the temperature difference between the contact points is successively reduced from the start of operation and ultimately remains relatively low, so that the safety device responds quickly when the burner goes out and when it is started up.
In the case of permanently installed mixing tubes, according to a variant shown in phantom in FIG. 1, the mixing tube 61 itself could also serve as a conductor between the contact points of the thermocouple by having one contact point H 'on the upper part of the mixing tube located in the area of the flame and the other contact point K' is arranged in the vicinity of the mixing tube next to a cooler point of the same. 1 indicates, by means of the connecting conductors shown in dash-dotted lines, how the conductor 74 'soldered or welded to the hottest part of the mixing tube at H' or a cooler part of the mixing pipe would be connected to the winding 72.
