Ausbeute etwa 85 0/a der Theorie.
diazotiert.
Process for the production of diazoaanino compounds It has long been known that the ice color method can be used in fabric printing to produce washable and lightfast dyeings. The fabric is printed with thickened, caustic solutions containing, for example, aryl amides of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid or acetoacetic acid as coupling components and stabilized diazo components in the form of readily water-soluble diazoamino compounds.
The diazoamino compounds used for this process are very stable in aqueous solution at room temperature. By treating the printed matter with dilute acids or by steaming with acidic steam, hydrolysis of the diazoamino compound occurs with elimination of the diazo component capable of coupling. The insoluble azo dye is formed directly on the fiber and fixed in a wash-resistant manner. This method of acidic steaming has considerable disadvantages, especially in terms of apparatus.
There has therefore been no lack of attempts to avoid the use of acid and to carry out the development in neutral steam. Processes have become known in which the caustic alkalis necessary to dissolve the coupling components are replaced by volatile organic bases or their neutralization is brought about during the steaming process by acid-releasing agents such as esters, acid anhydrides, acid amides or halogenated fatty acid salts.
It has also been found that some of the previously used diazoamino compounds suitable for acidic steaming are split by neutral steam in an alkaline medium and give prints of strong color in the presence of coupling components. These products are particularly easy to process and also have the advantage that they can be printed alongside vat dyes. However, there are only a few of the numerous diazoamino compounds known to date that have the aforementioned valuable properties.
In addition, some of these combinations are not sufficiently durable, and some are extremely easily soluble in water, so that their isolation is difficult. Therefore, in practice there is still a strong need for further diazoamino compounds which can be split by neutral steam and which, with high color yield, meet the requirements with regard to durability of the printing pastes and also to brilliance and levelness of the prints.
The easily cleavable diazoamino compounds proposed for this purpose are made in aqueous solution by condensation of diazotized, aromatic amines, the so-called real bases, with primary or secondary amines (stabilizers) which have one or more water-solubilizing groups. The water-soluble condensation products formed, e.g. B. the connec tions obtained according to French Patent No. 1042356 or according to German Patent No. 906215 are in most cases extremely easily soluble in water, so that their separation in solid form is often associated with considerable difficulties.
In the patents mentioned, it is proposed to separate the resulting compounds from their aqueous solutions by means of large amounts of common salt or with the help of caustic soda. It is also proposed that the compounds concerned should be isolated by direct evaporation of the reaction mixture under gentle conditions. It cannot be avoided that the products obtained in this way contain considerable amounts of inorganic salts and decomposition products that impair the quality of the end product.
It has now been found that diazoamino compounds with particularly valuable properties are obtained if diazo compounds of aromatic bases which have no solubilizing groups and are suitable for producing insoluble azo dyes on textile fibers are mixed with aminocarboxylic acids of the general formula below agree
EMI0002.0013
where R1 is an optionally substituted alkyl,
Cycloalkyl or aralkyl group, R2 and R3 each represent an optionally substituted alkyl group, or R, and R3 together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring, R2 and R3 not having any solubilizing, salt-forming groups.
Due to the absence of such groups, the new products differ in a fundamental way from the compounds described in German Patent No. 906215.
The preparation of diazoamino compounds with sulfonamide groups has already been proposed in German Patent No. 671788. The new sulfonamide derivatives made according to the invention differ from these compounds recommended for acidic steaming in that they
that their di-substituted sulfonamide groups, in contrast to the sulfonamide groups of the compounds of the patent mentioned, are not capable of salt formation with caustic alkalis.
The new products prepared according to the invention are only very sparingly soluble in salty water and can therefore be easily separated from their solutions. Despite their relatively low solubility, which may be real or colloidal solutions, the new diazoamino compounds are surprisingly very well suited for the production of printing pastes for the ice color process. The durability of the printing pastes and the levelness of the prints obtained with them are excellent, which could not have been foreseen.
If the components are chosen appropriately, the new diazoamino compounds prepared according to the invention have the valuable property that they can easily be cleaved by simple, neutral steaming even in an alkaline medium. The new products are therefore of great technical interest. The diazoamino compounds obtained can usually be separated from their aqueous solutions by means of table salt even at a low salt concentration, be it in crystalline, solid form or with the formation of a viscous, liquid, water-poor phase,
which can be separated from the aqueous electrolyte by decanting. In order to facilitate the separation of this phase, if necessary, organic solvents suitable for diluting the same, e.g. B. isopropyl alcohol added to who the.
It is advantageous to salt out with larger amounts of common salt or, if necessary, to reduce the water solubility of the solvent by adding readily soluble electrolytes such as potassium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. The decanted, solvent-containing phase contains only a few inorganic salts and is evaporated to dryness under gentle conditions, preferably in vacuo.
After drying, diazoamino compounds are obtained which are distinguished by a low content of organic salts.
The diazo compounds which are suitable for obtaining the new, valuable diazoamino compounds are derived from aromatic amines which do not have any solubilizing groups, such as the —COOH and —SOsH groups.
Technically particularly valuable diazoamino compounds which can easily be split by neutral steaming are obtained, for example, with the alkyl, alkoxy, benzoylamino, chlorine, nitro, cyano and sulfonamide substitution products of aniline.
The stability of the new diazoamino compounds produced from these amines depends on the one hand on the coupling energy of the diazo component and on the other hand on the substituents R1, R2 and R3. With a suitable choice of these groups, products can be obtained which can be easily split in neutral steam and at the same time result in very durable solutions at normal temperatures.
There is also the possibility of decisively influencing the solubility of the new condensation products with the substituents R1, R "and R ;; and thereby facilitating their separation and isolation, which is a further advantage of the process according to the invention.
The substituent R1 can be, for example, a methyl, ethyl, n-butyl, iso-butyl, methoxypropyl, hydroxy ethyl or benzyl group, while as examples for the group
EMI0002.0105
of the stabilizer, the dimethylamide, diethylamide, piperidide, morpholide groups may be mentioned.
The new diazoamino compounds can be mixed in the usual way with coupling components, thickeners and additives and processed into valuable printing pastes which are characterized by a particularly good shelf life. In the following examples, which are intended to explain the process, the amounts are given in parts by weight and the percentages in percentages by weight.
<I> Example 1 </I> 38.8 parts of the hydrochloride of 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-chlorobenzene are stirred well with a mixture of 120 parts of water and 30.5 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid. It is diazotized as usual by pouring in 56 parts of a 250% sodium nitrite solution at about 0 C.
The diazo solution obtained is filtered and neutralized by carefully sprinkling in sodium bicarbonate until it only shows a moderately congosaic reaction.
At the same time, 56.8 parts of 1-methylamino-2-benzoic acid-4-sulfonic acid dimethylamide are dissolved in 300 parts of water and about 30 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution, so that the clear solution obtained is slightly alkaline to phenolphthalein.
One adds another 14 parts of krist. Add sodium acetate and then let the diazo solution flow in at -3 to -1 within about <B>% </B> hour with thorough stirring. The hydrochloric acid released by the condensation is neutralized by the simultaneous dropwise addition of sodium hydroxide solution, the pH of the reaction mixture being kept at 7-7.2. Over the course of 3 hours, the pH value is gradually increased to 10.5 by adding more sodium hydroxide solution.
The initially red-brown colored reaction mixture takes on a pale yellow color in the course of the condensation. Towards the end of the reaction, the reaction product begins to separate out in a crystalline form, which has to be diluted with water so that the resulting paste remains easily stirrable. As soon as the reaction has ended, 8-10% sodium chloride is added in portions, the mixture is stirred for a while and then the fine-grain, almost white mixture is filtered off sharply.
The paste is dried in vacuo at a water bath temperature of about 40-45, the diazoamino compound being obtained as a very light, slightly brownish powder. The yield is over 90% of theory.

255 parts of the compound are gradually introduced into 400 parts of a 15% strength dimethylamine solution at 5-15, while dilute sodium hydroxide solution is added dropwise so that the mixture always contains free dimethylamine. The clear solution obtained is slowly run into excess, dilute hydrochloric acid at about 70, the reaction product separating out in crystalline form.
To exchange the chlorine for the methylamino group, the compound obtained is dissolved in 620 parts of a 20% monomethylamine solution, stirred with 2 parts of copper oxychloride powder and then placed in an autoclave at 112 for about 12 hours -115 implemented. The reaction product is freed from excess methylamine by distillation with water vapor, filtered and precipitated by slowly pouring it into hot, dilute mineral acid.
The product, which separates out in crystalline form, is obtained after filtration, washing and drying in excellent yield as a white to slightly yellowish powder with a melting point of about 186. <I> Example 2 </I> 35.6 parts of the hydrochloride of 1-amino-2-methyl-5-chlorobenzene are diazotized, as indicated in Example 1.
66.0 parts of 1-methylamino-2-benzoic acid-4-sulfonic acid morpholide are simultaneously dissolved in 300 parts of water and about 30 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution, and 8.4 parts of sodium bicarbonate are added to the weakly phenolphthalein-alkaline solution.
The filtered diazo solution, freed from excess mineral acid with sodium bicarbonate, is then allowed to flow in at -2 to 0 with thorough stirring, while at the same time enough 30% sodium hydroxide solution is added dropwise that the pH of the mixture is always 7.5 to 8.0 .
The pH value is kept at 8.0 for 1/2 hour by further addition of sodium hydroxide solution, then increased to 11.0 within 2 hours. The reaction is then complete and free diazo components can no longer be detected in the reaction mixture.
75 parts of isopropyl alcohol are added and then salted out in portions with 15% common salt, which separates into an almost colorless, aqueous phase and an oily, brownish-colored phase, which contains most of the added isopropyl alcohol,
some water and the diazoamino compound formed contains in dissolved form. The two layers can be separated after standing in the separating funnel for a while. The lower, brownish layer is freed from the solvent in vacuo at low temperature and then evaporated to dryness below 45, the diazoamino compound being a clear, water-soluble,
Pale yellowish colored powder is obtained in a yield of over 85% of theory.
The stabilizer can be prepared as indicated in Example 1, with 400 parts of a 30% strength morpholine solution being used instead of the dimethylamine. The compound has a melting point of about 206-209.
<I> Example 3 </I> 35.6 parts of the hydrochloride of 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chlorobenzene are mixed with 100 parts of water and 36 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid to form a homogeneous paste and added 0-5 in the usual way with 56 parts
25% sodium nitrite solution diazotized. was produced. The pH of the mixture is kept at 7.5 by simultaneous dropwise addition of 30% sodium hydroxide solution. The pH is then increased in a steadily increasing manner to <B> 10.5 within 4 hours. </B> The reaction is then complete and the condensation product separates out as a finely powdered, almost white paste in crystalline form.
To complete the separation, salt is also added with 51% sodium chloride. It is filtered and dried in vacuo at a moderate temperature. The yield is over 901 / o of theory.
<I> Example 4 </I> 25.6 parts of m-chloro-aniline are stirred in a mixture of 100 parts of water and 61 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and diazotized in the usual way at 5-10 by allowing 56 parts of 25 to flow in % sodium nitrite solution. The solution of the obtained diazo compound
