<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Motor device for a timepiece The present invention relates to a motor device for a timepiece.
This device is characterized by an oscillating assembly comprising, on the one hand, a fork mechanically cooperating with a sprung balance so as to effect a periodic movement synchronized with the movement of this sprung balance and, on the other hand, a driving anchor. a wheel, by a switch closed periodically by the movement of the balance, and by electromagnetic means consisting of a fixed part and a part integral with the oscillating assembly, the whole in such a way that it occurs periodically, between said parts during the oscillation of the balance, an electromagnetic interaction transmitting to the moving part a quantity of energy allowing the fork to give a maintenance pulse to the balance and to the anchor to move said wheel forward by one step.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view, with partial cutaway; fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line II-II of FIG. 1, and fig. 3, a cross section along the line 111-III of FIG. 2.
In the device shown in the drawing, the index 10 designates a balance, 11 its spiral spring, 12 and 13 the bearings in which pivots the axis 60 of the balance, 14 and 15 the plate, respectively the cock in which these bearings are mounted. . This device comprises, mounted on an axis 16 pivoted in bearings 17 and 18, an oscillating assembly consisting in particular of a fork 20 with three teeth cooperating respectively with a pin 21 carried by a disc 40, and with a notched washer 22, these two the last members being wedged on the axis 60, and by an anchor 23, the pins of which are engaged with a toothed wheel 24 driving a cog, not shown.
The mobile unit also comprises, on the one hand, two recessed magnets 50 and 51, in diametrically opposed positions with respect to the axis 16, in the arm of the fork 20 and an extension 52 of the latter, and, on the other hand, a weight 27 intended for the dynamic balancing of the anchor 23.
The bodies described so far are arranged in such a way that the oscillating balance imparts to the moving assembly a periodic movement of small amplitude, converted by the anchor 23 into an intermittent forward movement of the wheel 24.
The energy required to maintain the movement of the balance and to drive the wheel 24 permanently, is transmitted to the moving part by means of the magnets 51 and 52 which are placed in the air gap of a magnetic circuit. , comprising a permanent magnet 43 on the poles of which are fixed two soft iron flanges 44 and 45. These flanges have, in their longitudinal direction, two ribs 46 and 47 around which are wound two elliptical coils 48 and 49 whose major axes and the centers coincide respectively with the plane containing the longitudinal axes of the flanges 44 and 45 and the axis 16.
The bearings 17 and 18 are mounted directly in these flanges.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The two magnets 50 and 51 have the same width as the ribs 46 and 47 and are exactly in alignment with these ribs when the mobile assembly is in its middle position.
A soft iron bar 53, capable of being moved in the longitudinal direction of the flanges 44 and 45 between which it is arranged, makes it possible, by shunting a fraction of the flux produced by the magnet 43, to adjust the field in the air gap of the magnetic circuit.
The device also comprises a switch, one of the contact parts of which is formed by a rod 34 wedged on an axis 35 pivoted on stones between the plate 14 and a bridge 36, while the other contact part of this switch is constituted by a pin 37 carried by the disc 40. A spiral spring 38, one end of which is attached to the axis 35, and the other to an insulated terminal 39, constantly tends to return the rod 34 in the plane containing the axis 16 and the axis 60 of the balance. This plane is also that in which the two pins 21 and 37 tend to be placed under the action of the spiral spring 11.
It follows from this arrangement that, during the oscillation of the balance, the switch 34-37 closes, substantially at the moment when the balance passes through its middle position, and opens when the rod 34 escapes. .
The electric circuit controlled by this switch starts from terminal 39 to which one of the poles of a current source, not shown, is connected, passes through the balance spring 38, the axis 35 isolated from ground by the stones in which it is rotated, the rod 34, the pin 37, the disc 40, the axis 60 of the balance, the hairspring 11, the cock 15 then, through the mass, one end of the coils 48 and 49 whose other end is connected to terminal 33 connected to the second pole of the current source.
The operation of the device described is as follows When the switch 34-37 closes, the coils 48 and 49 are crossed by a current which generates, in the air gap of the magnetic circuit, a field in the same direction as the field produced by the permanent magnet 43, but of much higher intensity and in the opposite direction to that prevailing inside the magnets 50 and 51. As a result, the latter are subjected, during the time interval during which the switch is closed, interval which begins substantially at the instant when the crew reaches its middle position, at an impulse which transmits to the mobile crew the energy required to maintain the movement of the balance and drive the wheel 24 and the cog with which the latter is engaged.
It should be noted that, when the balance wheel is stopped, the magnet 43 pushes the magnets 50-51 back and maintains the fork 20 to the left or to the right of its middle position under the action of a torque whose intensity is adjustable by means of shunt 53.
Without this magnet, the fork 20 would remain in its middle position.
