Process for the preparation of yellow monoazo dyes It has been found that yellow monoazo dyes are obtained which are characterized by high lightfastness and are readily soluble in organic solvents if the obtained by coupling a diazotized 2-nitroaniline with 5-pyrazolones Azo dyes, which must contain at least one water-solubilizing acidic group in the dye molecule, are reacted with organic bases.
The 2-nitroaniline used as the diazo component can also be substituted by a halogen atom, a sulfonic acid group, an alkyl or trifluoromethyl radical. The sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid group comes into consideration as the acidic group which solubilizes the water.
The dyes thus obtained are only sparingly soluble or insoluble in water. However, they dissolve excellently in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, butanol, methyl acetate, methylglycol, ethylglycol, diacetone alcohol, and are therefore very suitable for coloring paints such as fuel paint and those under the name Cellon and Zapon paint commercially available products, as well as for coloring polymers,
Copolymers and condensates such as are commonly used for coating films. The new dyes can also be used advantageously for dyeing wood stains, celluloid and for the manufacture of rubber printing inks.
It is known from German patent specification No. 469179 to produce dyes soluble in organic solvents by converting acidic or noun textile dyes containing one or more carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid groups in the molecule into salts of di- or polyaryl- or aralkylguanidines .
It has also been suggested that other organic bases, such as dicyclohexylamine, methyldicyclohexylamine, tetramethyldiamidodibenzylsulfone, hexahydroaniline, quinoline, hexahydromethylethylpyridine, 2-methylbenzimidazole, 2-aminobenzimidazole, 2-aminoperimido-4,5-dihydroimido, 2-toluimido, be used - azole,
tri-substituted melamines, diethyl-a and -ss naphthylamine, 3-aminoethylcarbazole and. a. with organic dyes containing acidic salt-forming groups to implement (German Patent No. 561338 and No. 533871). By reacting with the organic bases, the starting dyes are made soluble in organic solvents and can then be used for dyeing, for example zapon varnishes.
Of the dyes known from the patents mentioned, the pyrazolone azo dyes obtainable according to the invention which contain a nitro group in the diazo component in the o-position to the azo bridge are distinguished by significantly better lightfastness.
The chemical process that takes place in the reaction according to the invention is a salt formation between the dye acid and the organic base, which is illustrated by the following equation for the dye in Example 1 below:
EMI0002.0001
Example 1 13.8 parts by weight of 2-nitroaniline are stirred with 65 parts by volume of 5N hydrochloric acid, mixed with 65 parts by volume of water and diazotized at 0 with 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution with the addition of ice. It is stirred for an hour.
The clarified diazo solution then runs into a solution of 26 parts by weight of 1- (2'-sulfophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone 100%, 400 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of lOn sodium hydroxide solution, with stirring. The clutch temperature is kept between 3-5. The mixture is then stirred for about an hour and then the dye is salted out with 200 parts by weight of rock salt.
The salted out dye is filtered off and dissolved in about 800 parts by volume of water when it is moist. 220 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution are allowed to run in at 18-20 with thorough stirring to the clarified dye solution. It is stirred for 6-8 hours and then the precipitated product is filtered off and dried ge.
The yellow dye obtained dissolves well in organic solvents, fuel and zapon paints and is characterized by high lightfastness.
If the dicyclohexylamine sulphate is replaced by di-o-tolylguanidine chlorohydrate, guanidine rhodanide or diphenylguanidine chlorohydrate, the corresponding color salts are obtained. They are hardly different from each other in terms of color and are also extremely lightfast.
Example 2 13.8 parts by weight of 2-nitroaniline are diazotized according to the information in Example 1. The diazo solution clarified with kieselguhr runs with stirring to a solution of 29.2 parts by weight of 1- (2'-sulfophenyl) -5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid 100%, 200 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution. The clutch temperature is kept between 2-5's rule.
The mixture is stirred for 1-3 hours and then the dye is salted out with 50 parts by weight of rock salt. The salted-out dye is filtered off and, in the moist state, dissolved in about 200 parts by volume of water to which about 8-9 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution have been added at room temperature. 440 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution are added to the clarified dye solution at 18 to 20 hours with thorough stirring, and the mixture is stirred for 8-10 hours. The precipitated dye is separated off and dried.
It forms a reddish-yellow powder that is readily soluble in organic solvents and has a high lightfastness.
If, instead of dieyclohexylamine sulfate, other organic bases, such as di-o-tolylguanidine chlorohydrate, diphenylguanidine chlorohydrate, benzylamine chlorohydrate, dodecylamine sulfate or aniline chlorohydrate, are obtained, the corresponding color salts are obtained which hardly differ in color either characterized by a high level of light fastness.
Example 3 The diazo solution of 13.8 parts by weight of 2-nitroaniline, clarified with kieselguhr, is allowed to stir into a solution of 32.8 parts by weight of 1- (4'-chloro-2'-sulfophenyl) -5- Pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid 100%, 200 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling temperature is kept between 2-5. The mixture is then stirred for 1-3 hours. The dye precipitates without the addition of rock salt.
It is filtered off and mixed with filter-moist in about 1500 parts by volume of water and mixed with dilute sodium hydroxide solution until the delta acid reaction. 440 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulphate solution are allowed to run into the clarified dye solution at about 18 ° with stirring. The mixture is stirred for 8-10 hours and then the precipitated dye is separated off and dried. The yellow product obtained is readily soluble in organic solvents and has excellent light fastness.
Example 4 20.6 parts by weight of 3-nitro-4-amino-1-trifluoromethylbenzene are dissolved with stirring in 40 parts by volume of concentrated sulfuric acid and, at 0, with 28 parts by weight of nitrosylsulfuric acid 45.57% diazotized. The mixture is stirred for about 1 hour at 0-30, then the reaction mixture is slowly poured at 0 with stirring onto 300 parts by weight of ice and stirred for a further 15 minutes.
The clarified diazo solution now flows with stirring to a solution clarified with kieselguhr and composed of 29.25 parts by weight 1- (2'- sulfophenyl) -5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid and 200 parts by volume water and 10 parts by volume of 10 sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling temperature is kept at 0-50 by adding ice. The coupling is complete after 1/2 to 1 hour.
Then the dye is salted out with 100 parts by weight of rock salt. The mixture is then stirred for 4 to 5 hours, then the dye is separated off by filtration and dissolved in 1300 parts by volume of hot water. The clarified solution is brought to 17-18 by adding ice and reacted at this temperature with 440 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution. The mixture is subsequently stirred for 5-6 hours and the product which has separated out is isolated.
After drying, a yellow dye which is very readily soluble in alcohol and other organic solvents and has a high lightfastness and is particularly suitable for dyeing Zapon varnishes is obtained. Example 5 15.2 parts by weight of 3-nitro-4-amino-1-methylbenzene are mixed with 65 parts by volume of 5N hydrochloric acid and 200 parts by volume of water and diazotized at 0 with 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution while adding ice. After the end of the diazotization, the mixture is stirred for about 1 hour.
Furthermore, 31.7 parts by weight of 1- (6'-chloro-2'-methyl-4'-sulfophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are dissolved in 300 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution. 100 parts by volume of a 20% sodium carbonate solution are added to this solution and the clarified diazo solution is allowed to run in while stirring. By adding ice, the coupling is carried out at about 5. The dye precipitates.
The mixture is stirred for a further 1-2 hours, the isolated dye is dissolved and clarified in a moist state in about 2000 parts by volume of water. 440 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution are added to this solution at about 18 ° with thorough stirring and the mixture is stirred for several hours. It will keep a yellow dye of excellent lightfastness.
The 31.7 parts by weight of 1- (6'-chloro-2'-methyl-4'-sulfophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are replaced by 29.2 parts by weight of 1- (2'-sulfophenyl) -5-pyrazolone -3- carboxylic acid 100%, the result is a dye which has a more reddish-tinged yellow hue and with the same excellent lightfastness an even better solubility in organic solvents.
Example 6 13.8 parts by weight of 2-nitroaniline are diazotized in the usual way. The diazo solution then runs into a solution of 31.7 parts by weight of 1- (6'-chloro-2'-methyl-4'-sulfophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 300 parts by volume of water, with stirring.
10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution and 100 parts by volume of 20% soda solution. The coupling temperature is about 5. The mixture is stirred for about 2 hours. The precipitated dye is then dissolved in 1500 parts by volume of water and at 16-18 with stirring with 220 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution and the whole is stirred for about 12 hours. The precipitated product is filtered and net getrock.
A yellow dye is obtained which is readily soluble in organic solvents, spray and zapon paints and has high lightfastness. Example 7 13.8 parts by weight of 2 nitroaniline are diazotized in the usual way. The diazo solution then runs into a solution of 32.5 parts by weight of 1- (2'-sulfophenyl) -3-phenyl-5-pyrazolone, 250 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution, with stirring. The clutch temperature is kept between 0-5.
It is stirred for 1-2 hours. The excreted dye is dissolved in 1500 parts by volume of water and 50 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution with heating and set at about 20 with 220 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution with stirring. The mixture is stirred for 6-8 hours. The precipitated product is filtered and dried. The yellow, fuel-soluble dye obtained is characterized by excellent lightfastness.
Example 8 The clarified diazo solution of 13.8 parts by weight of 2-nitroaniline is left with stirring in a solution of 27.6 parts by weight of 1- (2'-methyl-4'-sulfophenyl) -3-methyl- Run in 5-pyrazolone, 250 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling temperature should be 0-50. The mixture is stirred for 1-2 hours and the dye is salted out with 50 parts by weight of rock salt.
The isolated, moist dye is then dissolved in 1500 parts by volume of water and 30 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution while warm and reacted at 20 with 240 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution with thorough stirring. The mixture is then stirred for about 8-10 hours and a yellow dye which is soluble in organic solvents and in zapon varnish and has excellent light fastness is obtained.
Example 9 13.8 parts by weight of 2 nitroaniline are diazotized in the usual way. The clarified diazo solution then runs into a solution of 30.7 parts by weight of 1- (2'-methyl-4'-sulfophenyl-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid, 250 parts by volume of water and 10 parts by volume of 10N sodium hydroxide solution) with stirring. The coupling temperature is 0-5.
The mixture is then stirred for about 2 hours. The dye precipitates and is separated off by filtration. The isolated, moist product is dissolved in 1500 parts by volume of water and 30 parts by volume of 2N hot sodium hydroxide solution, clarified, and 440 parts by volume of 0.5N dicyclohexylamine sulfate solution are added at 20 with thorough stirring. It is stirred for 8-10 hours, and then the precipitated product is filtered and dried.
The yellow dye obtained in this way dissolves well in organic solvents, fuel and zapon paints and is characterized by very good lightfastness.
