B. Zinn).
Water still The invention relates to a water still which is used to obtain practically pure, distilled water.
It is known that in ordinary distilled water there are still residues of the salts and gases originally dissolved in the tap water, well or spring water. Depending on the intended use of the distilled water, they interfere to a greater or lesser extent and must be removed as far as possible. In general, this is usually done by a second distillation or, if only the dissolved gases are a problem, by boiling the distilled water. However, it is a well-known fact that complete degassing cannot be achieved even with two distillation, especially of chlorinated water.
It has already been proposed to combine the distillation and the degassing in one process in such a way that the feed water is heated before it flows into the still in order to drive off the gases dissolved therein. However, this measure does not succeed in removing the gases completely or even only as extensively as would be necessary. In order to achieve a sustainable result, a long boiling process would have to follow, but this is time-consuming and inefficient.
According to a further suggestion, air is allowed to flow against the condensate which separates out in a reflux condenser. The air that leaves the cooler at the top takes the gases driven out of the water with it. However, a disadvantage of such a device is that contaminants in the air can very easily get into the distillate. With very slow or completely throttled air flow, some of the expelled gases can also dissolve again in the condensate, since the gases can also reach the points where the condensate has already largely cooled. The identified shortcomings of the known water stills are avoided in the fiction, according to the water still.
This apparatus is characterized by a condensate drainage surface, which is arranged in front of the cooling surface and coated with water vapor, as well as a liquid seal arranged in the extraction line for the distilled water, such that the distilled water flows into the extraction line at approximately boiling temperature.
Using the drawing, an exemplary embodiment of the water distillation apparatus according to the invention is explained in more detail below: The lower part of the water distillation apparatus consists of a tubular evaporator 1 into which a heating element 2 is inserted from below with the aid of a plug V.
The heating element 2 has heating surfaces H only on its upper part, so that there is still a buffer store of feed water in the evaporator 1 under the violently boiling water. A steam filter 3 filled with packing is located above a small extension E at the upper end of the evaporator 1 above a sieve plate 4.
The steam filter 3 serves to prevent the salts and other solids dissolved in the feed water from being carried away. In the steam filter 3, the steam is forced to change its flow direction frequently. Due to the frequent change in the direction of flow of the steam, the droplets that are cracked by it are deposited. The reflux in the steam filter 3 only needs to be very low, since it is essentially only intended to prevent the accumulation of dissolved solids in the steam filter 3.
If this filter 3 is sufficiently effective, the distilled water is practically completely free of dissolved solids.
The feed water is preheated in the cooler 5 and then introduced through a hose S and a connection 6 into the lower part of the evaporator 1; the excess of feed water is discharged through a connection 7, a hose 8 and an overflow level regulator 9 that is adjustable in height. In the water-filled part of the evaporator 1 below, there is constant flushing with fresh water. The lower part of the evaporator 1 rinsed by fresh water is expediently kept separate from the boiling water by a buffer volume with gradually heating water.
This happens, for example, by a cross-sectional constriction la of the evaporator 1, which largely prevents a strong mixing of the water between the two evaporator zones. With this arrangement, water surges from the evaporator contents are also avoided, as the gas bubbles emerging from the feed water flowing in from below act as steam nuclei. Instead of the cross-sectional constriction la, packing elements or similar flow obstacles could also be provided in the evaporator 1.
If you take the overflow level controller 9 out of its holder (not shown) and lower it, the entire apparatus can be emptied in a simple manner; To decalcify, raise the overflow level regulator 9 again, squeeze the drain hose A on the overflow level regulator 9 and pour the decalcifying agent (e.g. hydrochloric acid) through this and the hose 8 into the evaporator 1.
A return condenser, preferably made of hydrolysis-resistant glass, is used as the cooler 5. At the lower end of the cooling coil 10, a small dead extension F is connected, via which the condensate runs to the siphon 12 located in the drain pipe 11.
Instead of the siphon 12, a capillary can also be used as a liquid seal. On the outer surface of the dead extension F, which has no internal connection with the cooling coil 10, the condensate runs downwards, where it is heated by the flowing steam in direct contact again to the boiling point and degassed in the process. The gases escape through the opening 13 at the upper end of the cooler 5.
The vapor is thus condensed under reflux, the distillate then flowing against the flowing distillate vapor via a condensate drain surface that is not flushed by the cooling water, in order to finally be removed via a siphon 12 or another liquid seal.
A particularly thorough degassing can also be achieved by rectification in a stripping column between the cooler 5 and the liquid seal 12 (not shown), in which water vapor flows against the distilled water obtained in this way.
The apparatus is fastened with a clamp or clamp 14 to the stand 15, which is only partially shown. On the clamp 14 there are two not visible eyelets for holding the connecting lines through which the cooling water is directed to the cooler connection 16 and this at the front connection 17_ again as feed water to the connection 6 on the evaporator 1.
The tubular shape of the evaporator 1 has the advantage of a small footprint, a favorable heat transfer from the radiator 2 to the violently bubbling water and only a slight mixing of the already boiling water with the incoming feed water.
The excess feed water flowing out of the evaporator 1 through the nozzle 7 at the bottom carries away the impurities remaining during the distillation.
At the upper opening 13 of the cooler 5, if necessary, a warning steam whistle can also be brought into action when the apparatus is operated with no or too little cooling water. It has proven to be useful to use a steam pipe with a low flow resistance so that the back pressure of the steam does not force the water out of the evaporator 1 via the overflow level regulator 9.
It has also been proven to operate a thermoelectric fuse through the lack of cooling water in the upper part of the cooler 5 in the upper part of the cooler 5, a thermoelectric fuse to interrupt the power supply to the heating body 2 or trigger warning signals or the like.
With the help of the distillation apparatus described, distilled water with a conductivity below 0.5 X 10-6 Siemens can be obtained if the heating body 2, the evaporator 1, the steam filter 3 and in particular the one at the bottom of the cooling coil 10, not from the cooling water rinsed surface of the extension F are dimensioned accordingly.
Further advantages of the device are, in addition to the automatic cleaning of the evaporator 1, the space-saving structure, which is largely secured against breakage, as well as its simple operation and decalcification.
The training of the apparatus can be varied in many ways, such. B. by using a different construction material for the cooler 5 and the evaporator 1 (z. B. tin).
