Process for the preparation of water-insoluble monoazo dyes According to the process of the main patent, valuable water-insoluble monoazo dyes are obtained by adding diazotized alkylcyananilines, which can have a halogen substituent or a further cyano group or a further cyano group and a further alkyl radical,
combined with aromatic amines coupling in the p-position to the amino group, in which one hydrogen atom of the amino group is replaced by an oxalky group and the other hydrogen atom is replaced by an alkyl group. is, the components being chosen in such a way that they contain no sulfonic acid and carboxylic acid groups.
It has now been found that valuable water-insoluble monoazo dyes are also obtained when diazotized dicyaniline is combined with aromatic amines which couple in the p-position to the amino group, in which one hydrogen atom of the amino group is replaced by an oxalkyl radical and the other hydrogen atom replaced by an alkyl radical, and choosing the components in such a way that
that they do not contain any sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups.
The new water-insoluble monoazo dyes produce clear, light- and washfast dyeings on polyamide and acetate rayon fibers. Example 14.3 parts by weight of 2,4-dicyananiline are added under 20 to 8-5 parts by weight of concentrated sulfuric acid and 30 parts by weight of nitrosylsulfuric acid (containing 7 g of NaNO2) with stirring. Stirring is continued until the amine has dissolved (duration about 11 / to 2 hours).
The diazotization is poured onto 50 parts by weight of water and 400 parts by weight of ice and the excess nitrite is destroyed with amidosidic acid. A solution of 20.7 parts by weight of N-butyl-1-N-oxethylamino-3-methylbenzene in dilute hydrochloric acid is then added to the clear diazo solution. The reaction mixture is partially blunted (until congoviolet) with dilute sodium hydroxide solution, the temperature being kept at 0 ge by adding more ice.
The dye is filtered off and washed neutral. When dry, it forms a black-red powder that dissolves in organic solvents such as acetone or alcohol with a bluish red color. It dyes acetate rayon and polyamide fiber, finely distributed with suitable additives, in clear blue-tinged red tones.
