Gas turbine installation The subject of the invention is a gas turbine installation comprising a generator device intended to supply the combustion chamber with completely vaporized fuel. In known installations of this type, the generator device is an integral part of a combustion chamber that comprises II installation. However, this arrangement has not always proved to be satisfactory.
The installation according to the invention is characterized in that said generator device is autonomous and comprises a heating chamber provided with means for supplying air and fuel, means for igniting the air-fuel mixture,
a space crossed by the fuel and through the walls of which the heat of combustion of the mixture in the heating chamber is transmitted to the fuel to preheat it and means for bringing said preheated fuel near an outlet opening of said heating chamber so that it is completely vaporized by mixing with the hot gases leaving said chamber.
The drawing partially represents, by way of example, two embodiments and a variant of the installation forming the subject of the present invention. Fig. 1 is an elevation in longitudinal section of the generator device of a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, of a detail of this device.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the generator device of a second embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of part of the first embodiment comprising the generator device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and a combustion chamber of annular section.
Fig. 5 is an elevation, partially in longitudinal section, of the second embodiment comprising the generator device shown in FIG. 3 and a combustion chamber of annular section; and fig. 6 is an elevation, partially in longitudinal section, of a variant of the second embodiment comprising several separate combustion chambers, only one of which is shown.
The generator device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a duct 11 through which compressed air is supplied into this device from the left and into a passage of annular section 12. Two transverse passages 13, only one of which is shown in FIG. 1 are connected to passage 12 and lead tangentially from this passage into a mixing and combustion chamber 14.
Heating fuel is supplied to chamber 14 through duct 16 and, after swirling around chamber 14 and mixing with air, this fuel exits this chamber from its upstream side and through a sharp-edged opening 17 oriented towards a closed end 18 of a heating chamber 19 in which ignition means 20, possibly comprising an auxiliary fuel sprayer, are disposed.
The heat of combustion heats chamber 14 so that, once combustion has been started, it causes the fuel supplied through duct 16 to evaporate.
The mixture which passes through chamber 14 should be such that proper chemical combustion is ensured or, preferably, it should be slightly too rich in fuel, so that no excess oxy remains. gene in the heating chamber 19 after combustion.
The downstream end of the chamber 19 has a converging outlet nozzle 21 which is connected by an opening with sharp edges to a chamber 22 itself having, at another location, an outlet opening 23 intended to be connected to a duct not shown in FIG. 1, but corresponding to conduit 61 of @fig. 5 and 6 and leading to a distributor of the combustion apparatus.
The fuel intended to supply the combustion apparatus of the installation provided with this generator arrives through a duct 25 which opens into a space of annular section 26 surrounding the downstream end 27 of the heating chamber 19 and formed by a double wall of this room.
This space is used to reheat the fuel supplied by said duct 25: The downstream end of space 26 internally has a groove 29 and is closed by a bottom provided with several openings controlled by needle valves 30 and angular. deny offset and only one of which is shown in each of fig. 1 and 2. These valves are pressed towards their respective closed positions by compression springs 31 which bear against fixed parts 32 also serving to guide said valves.
These are arranged symmetrically all around the downstream end of the annular space 26, so as to be able to pass the maximum quantity of fuel that can be supplied through the duct 25.
The valve 30 is shown in FIG. 2 in the closed position. However, it will be understood that this valve is capable of opening under the effect of the fuel pressure prevailing inside the annular space 26, so as to allow a greater or less quantity of fuel to pass depending on the needs of the installation provided with the generator. This fuel forms a film indicated by an arrow 34 and moving along the internal face of the wall of the converging nozzle 21, which is shaped for this purpose.
It is partially evaporated by direct contact with the heated gases which pass through this nozzle and the final mixing and total evaporation of this fuel is completed in chamber 22, thanks to the turbulence caused by the sharp-edged opening. entry into this room. Due to the fact that the heated gases are too rich in fuel, the main part of the fuel supplied through. the duct 25 and through the annular passage 26 does not burn.
The corresponding parts of the generating devices respectively shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and in fig. 3 are designated by the same reference signs and the device shown in FIG. 3 comprises a heating chamber 19a which closely resembles that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
The device shown in FIG. 3, however, does not include an annular section space 26 but, instead, a converging portion 36 of the downstream end of the heating chamber. This converging part is connected to a cylindrical part 37, relatively long.
In this part 37 is mounted a coil 38 through which passes the fuel intended for supplying the combustion apparatus of the installation provided with this generator, and which comes to it through a duct 25a. In this serpen tin, the fuel is heated by the heated gases and it comes out at its outlet end 40, to vaporize while mixing with the heated gas leaving the heating chamber.
In the embodiments shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the installation comprises a combustion appliance comprising an outer casing 42 and an inner casing 43. The annular section combustion chamber 44 is radially spaced from the inner and outer walls of the combustion appliance, as shown at 45 and 46, to allow the passage of dilution and cooling air.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the generator device shown in detail in FIGS. 1 and 2 is mounted inside upstream envelopes 47 and 48, the parts of which form wall parts of the combustion chamber 44 and is supported by these envelopes by arms 51. The chamber 22 of this positive device communicates with a distributor constituted by an annular chamber 52 limited by annular walls 53 and disposed at the upstream end of the combustion chamber 44. This annular chamber 52 is closed by a screen 54 having several small openings indicated by arrows 55 .
The pressure is uniform throughout the space of the annular chamber 52.
Secondary air intended to allow complete combustion in the combustion chamber enters the latter through holes 57 formed in the outer wall 53 and through other holes 58 formed in the inner wall 53, as indicated. by arrows 59.
The second embodiment shown in FIG. 5 comprises a combustion apparatus having a combustion chamber of annular section comprising outer annular walls 47, 47a, 47b, etc., and inner annular walls 48, 48a, 48b, etc.
Each of these walls covers the downstream end of the preceding wall with a clearance, as indicated at 50, so as to allow a certain quantity of dilution air to penetrate to the interior of the combustion chamber to internally cooling the annular walls constituting the walls of this chamber.
In this second embodiment, which includes the generator device shown in detail in FIG. 3, this generator device is arranged outside the combustion apparatus. The upstream end of the combustion chamber has an annular chamber 52a which constitutes a distributor in which the vaporized fuel is supplied from the generator device through a duct 61.
This chamber is limited downstream by a screen 54a which is provided with several small openings indicated by arrows 55. Similarly, secondary air is admitted into the combustion chamber through openings 57a. formed in the outer annular wall 47 and through openings 58a formed in the inner annular wall 48 of the combustion chamber.
The variant shown in laofig. 6 includes the generator device shown in FIG. 3 and a circular row of combustion devices 63, only one of which is shown. Compressed air entering through the upstream end 64 of each of these combustion devices passes downstream through an annular section space 65 and serves as dilution air and also to cool the envelopes 68, 68a, 68b, etc., which limit the combustion chamber.
These envelopes have their respective upstream ends each lying outside the downstream end of a preceding envelope and overlapping. this end. In this variant, secondary air enters axially into the combustion chamber of each appliance through an opening 70 and evaporated fuel is supplied by a distributor 71, from the duct 61. From this distributor, into which the pressure is uniform,
a conduit 72 delivers the fuel vapor to each of the combustion chambers. In each of these chambers, this vapor is fed into a ring 73 which has distribution holes made in its downstream wall. The upstream end of the combustion chamber is provided with a screen 74 which has several openings 75 indicated by arrows, for the admission of secondary air.
In some industrial gas turbine power plants, it may be advantageous to install two fuel vapor generating devices, only one of these devices being used at a time, so that the other can be removed and cleaned. without stopping the installation.
Due to the fact that this installation comprises an autonomous fuel vapor generator device, it is possible to control the supply of fuel vapor to the combustion chamber in a simple and efficient manner and before this vapor emerges into this combustion chamber. In addition, the use of such an autonomous fuel vapor generator facilitates the uniform distribution of the fuel vapor in the combustion chamber of the installation.
