Combustion appliance for space heating. The present invention relates to a grate combustion apparatus for heating premises, comprising at least one pipe, part of which is in contact with the hot gases so that air entering from the outside is heated therein. , and which is shaped so that it delivers at least part of the heated air to the fuel located in the fireplace, as primary air, through an orifice through which this air is sucked in by the effect of depression prevailing in the hearth.
This apparatus is characterized in that the aforementioned duct in which the air is heated is so formed that it delivers the primary air under the grate of the hearth.
The appended drawing represents, by way of examples and schematically, two embodiments of the apparatus forming the subject of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are respective views in vertical section.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, an envelope 1 contains, at its lower part, a grid 11 supporting a solid fuel 12 and capable of receiving air from a space 42 located below it, and, above the fireplace, elements 13 for heating the water of an installation to which they are connected by pipes 40 and 41. In the upper part of the fireplace passes a pipe 14 made of a metal tube. The part of this tubing which passes into the hearth is provided with external fins 15 for the absorption of heat, this tubing having, on the outside of the casing, a mouth 17 for the entry of outside air.
The air intake is regulated by a valve 18 which a chain 19 connects to a lever 20 controlled by a boiler thermostat 21. The lever 20 is furthermore connected by a chain 25 to a valve 24 regulating the admission of cold primary air through an air intake 23 opening into space 42, while the other end of the pipe 14 opens out at 22 into this space 42 to supply it with hot primary air. A bypass 16 of the pipe 14 is pierced with a few holes 43 through which it delivers hot secondary air into the space between the fuel and the exhaust stack.
A thermostat 26, the sensitive member of which passes through the wall of the chimney, controls, on the other hand, according to the temperature of the hot gases, the opening of a valve 27 allowing air to enter the chimney. to reduce the draft when necessary, and, consequently, to reduce the quantity of air drawn in from the outside through the pipe 14.
This embodiment differs from that which is described in the main patent in that the hot primary air is brought under the grid instead of being distributed in the igniting fuel, and in that no part of the tubing does not come into contact with fuel.
This allows the device to be set for more lively combustions which would not resist iron tubes surrounded by incandescent fuel, both as regards the part in which the air is heated and the part which delivers the primary air.
When the two thermostat control devices work together, we obtain the advantage of making the operating speed of the device depend both on atmospheric conditions (chimney thermostat) and on the caloric power demanded by the users of the fluid. heating (boiler thermostat).
In the embodiment of FIG. 2, there are three pipes for heating the primary air opening into the space 42. One, designated by 30 and having its air intake at 31, has its heating part located between two rows 28 and 29. of water circulation elements of the installation and opens under the grid at 32. The other, 33, takes air at 34, heats up in the space located beyond the elements 29, and opens under the grid in 3â. Finally, the third, 36, takes in the air at 38, has an annular enlargement 37, the inner wall of which is in contact with the hot gases, constituting a part of the duct for discharging these gases located beyond the circulation elements water and before the chimney of the building, and emerges under the grid at 39.
Either of these pipes can be used alone. Either or each of them may be fitted with an automatic device for adjusting the air intake, such as that in fig. 1.
It should be noted that in the two embodiments described, the heating pipes have a part which passes outside the casing 1 containing the fuel and the elements with water circulation. This outer part can be surrounded by an insulating material.
The pipes could be formed from elements coming from the foundry and arranged inside the casing 1 and being able to form an integral part of the water circulation elements. In the case where cold air is also introduced under the grille, its inlet path could be close to that of the hot air, either above or below, or even be concentric with that of hot air, so that the temperature under the grill is uniform thanks to a mixture of hot and cold air.
