Device for sealing parting joints The parting joint sealing on pipe flanges, housing flanges of turbines etc. can no longer be produced by interlaying oil paper or other soft materials even at relatively low pressures. Such intermediate layers are blown out of the parting line by the internal pressure. So far you have special sealing pieces in the parting line, z.
B. of flange connections, these consist of metal rings, especially steel rings, which are pressed by the flange screws. In many cases, however - this applies in particular to the housing flanges of turbines - these additional sealing pieces are used and the seal is produced by carefully fitting the surfaces and clamping them against each other with screws.
In this case the screws have to fulfill two tasks, namely connecting two parts and ensuring the sealing pressure.
At very high pressures, especially in connection with high temperatures, the difficulties of partial joint sealing grow extraordinarily, especially when operational changes in pressure or temperature conditions have to be expected. The invention relates to a device, which is particularly advantageous for the field of high pressures and temperatures, for sealing butt joints using deformable sealing pieces, e.g. B. made of soft iron and the like.
According to the invention, this device for sealing parting joints between at least approximately flat surfaces is characterized in that it has a deformable sealing piece bridging the parting line and at least one pressing piece that can be pressed against the sealing piece by means that can be operated from outside. As the embodiments show, this is a fundamentally different type of seal than the usual stuffing boxes with soft packing, which is used to seal two interlocking bodies (shaft against housing, tube end against tube end and the like).
The invention relates to the sealing of the butt joints between two at least approximately flat surfaces.
The invention will first be explained with the aid of the simple example of the pipe flange seal according to FIGS. It is a matter of connecting a flange 1 with a pipe 2 tightly. In the present case, the tube 2 is inserted into a housing 3 and rests in its bore with a curved surface 4. The tensioning force is applied by the screws 5. The sealing device is constructed as follows: a groove 6 is worked into the pipe section 2 and a hTUt 7 is worked into the flange 1.
In the groove 7, a press ring 8, for example made of steel, is inserted and over it the actual log ring 9 made of a deformable material suitable for the temperature area. Through the flange 1 a number of pressure screws 10 is passed to the ring 8.
The right part of the figure shows the state before assembly. The rings 8 and 9 are inside the groove 7. Now the flange is put on and the screws 5 are tightened. The tightening force depends on the internal pressure to be absorbed. Now the screws 10 are tightened evenly and press the sealing ring 9 into the groove 6 via the ring 8 until it has assumed the position shown in the left part of the figure. It now bridges the parting line 11 and therefore seals it off.
While previously, as stated at the beginning, it was not possible to use an intermediate layer in the parting line, it is now possible to use the soft packing because, since it is located within a closed groove, it has no possibility of escape to the outside. On the contrary, if the internal pressure were to reach the ring 9 via the partial fig 11, the pressure of the ring 9 against the groove wall would be increased, so the sealing effect would be increased.
In FIGS. 3 to 6, a particularly important and particularly difficult application of the invention is shown as an embodiment, namely the partial joint seal of the housing of a high pressure turbine, a task whose solution is of crucial importance for the further development of the high pressure turbine.
The particular value of the sealing device described in application in this case lies not only in the perfect seal as such, but also in the fact that the screws connecting the two housing halves only have to apply the tensioning force, but not the additional sealing force. 3 shows a plan view of the housing flange with the tensioning screws 13. 14 is the associated counter-flange. In the two flan's grooves 15 and 16 are processed again, which essentially follow the irregular course of the inner edge of the flange surfaces.
Here, too, a sealing piece 17 and a press-in piece 18 are inserted, but now they are not in the form of rings but of angled bars. Whether the pressing pieces 18 are made in one piece or in several pieces depends on the shape and size of the parting line. FIG. 4 again shows the position of the parts before assembly, FIG. 5 after assembly. FIG. 6 is a section along the line VI-VI of FIG. 3.
