The present invention relates to a pneumatic driving hammer, in particular for driving sheet piles, piles, piles, and the like.
The object of the invention is to establish a pneumatic hammer which makes it possible to develop a significant impact power, despite the use of a striking mass of relatively low weight. To this end, the pneumatic hammer according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a striking mass with reciprocating movement guided in a housing communicating with the atmosphere and the base of which forms an anvil, an air cylinder integral with one of these elements and cooperating with a piston integral with the other of these elements, means for lifting the striking mass, by compressing the air contained in said cylinder, and releasing this mass after a determined upward stroke,
so as to cause the striking movement of said mass under the combined action of its own weight and the expansion of the compressed air in said cylinder and means for producing in this cylinder, at the start of the lifting movement of the striking mass, a determined initial pressure of air, greater than atmospheric pressure. Thanks to this initial pressure, there remains in the air cylinder, after the compressed air has been released, a residual pressure which maintains the striking mass on the struck object, with a static force which ensures that a shock is obtained. supported, that is to say that this static force opposes the rebounding of the striking mass and maintains it in position after each fall, until the moment of the next lifting movement.
This strong impact is very useful for ensuring a particularly efficient transmission of the live force from the striking mass to the struck part.
An embodiment of the invention is described below, by way of example, with reference to the appended schematic drawings, in which various construction details not essential for understanding the invention have been omitted. In these drawings, FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section of a pneumatic hammer, taken along the broken line 1-1 of FIG. 5, when the striking mass is at the bottom of its stroke, at the time of the start of its uphill stroke. Fig. 2 is a similar view shortly before the end of the upward travel of the mass, at the beginning of the disengagement of the click stage.
The fi-. 3 is a similar view, clicked open, at the end of the mass raising stroke. Fig. 4 is a similar partial view, shortly before the end of the lowering stroke of the hydraulic piston, at the start of the engagement of the ratchet. Fig. 5 is a cross section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 3. Fig. 6 is a half-section of an alternative embodiment, the striking mass approaching the end of its upward stroke.
Fig. 7 is an overall view, partially in section, of the hammer with control device of the distributor, of said hydraulic distributor, of the articulated pipe and of the pump supplying the hammer with pressurized liquid; and fig. 8 shows a mechanical device for lifting the striking mass. As shown more especially in Figs. 1 to 5, the hammer comprises a box 1, of square section in the example illustrated, provided with a cover 2 and a bottom 3, forming an anvil, these three elements being joined together by four tie rods 4 which s 'extend between the cover 2 and the bottom 3, in the corners of the housing 1.
For clarity of the drawing, the upper part of these tie rods has not been shown, except that of the right tie rod in fig. 1. Claws 5 protrude from the bottom 3 and serve, for example, to center the hammer on the head of a stake. The striking mass, of cylindrical outer shape, comprises a frustoconical lower part 6 and a cylindrical upper part 7, these two parts being made integral with each other for example by a recessed joint assembly 8 and screws ( not shown) with head embedded in the base 6.
The mass 6, 7 is guided by eight external guide bushes 9 which embrace the tie rods 4 and four of which are arranged in the upper part and four in the lower part of said mass. This has a central cylindrical hollow 10 which embraces a piston 11 formed by the widened end of a cylinder 12, the assembly of which is fixed to the cover 2 by ties 13.
Twelve radial orifices 14 are drilled in the lower part of the wall of cylinder 10. Eleven of these orifices open into closed cylindrical cavities 15, formed in the thickness of the body 7 and serving as dead space. The twelfth orifice 14 opens into a duct communicating with a cylinder 17 hollowed out in the body 7, parallel to the cylinder dre 10. A check valve 18, opening towards the cylinder 10, is placed in the duct 16, which can communicate with the atmo sphere by a safety valve 19, loaded by an adjustable tension spring. The detail of this valve has not been shown in fig. 2 to 4.
It comprises a ball subjected to the action of a pressure spring arranged in a cup screwed into a fixed housing, so that it will be sufficient to screw or unscrew the cup to adjust the spring tension. To facilitate this adjustment operation, a window can be provided in the housing 1 facing said bucket when the striking mass is in the position shown in FIG. 1.
A piston 20, shown half in section, half in exterior view, and provided with a packing of gaskets, engages in the cylinder 17 and is fixed to the cover 2 by means of a rod 21. A check valve 22 , opening towards cylinder 17, is provided in piston 20.
A piston 23, provided with a seal and integral with a rod 24, engages in the cylinder 12, the upper base of which is connected to a distributor 53 (FIG. 7) by a pipe 55. The rod 24 is guided in the central opening formed in the piston 11 and provided with a gasket, this opening having a diameter smaller than the bore of the cylinder 12. Four radial holes 26 are provided in the body of the piston 11 and are connected to pipes 27 connected to the distributor 53 (Fig. 7). At its other end, the rod 24 carries a cylindrical foot 28 capable of engaging in a cavity 29 of corresponding shape, formed in the upper face of the base 6 of the striking mass.
This foot 28 carries a device for attaching the mass 6, 7 to the rod 24, which device comprises two fingers 30 slidably mounted in diametrically opposed horizontal housings formed in the foot 28. The ends of the fingers 30 are cut. in the form of a spout with a horizontal upper face and an inclined lower face, the inclination of which corresponds to that of a flare provided at the upper edge of the cavity 29. Two compression springs force the fingers outwards, the protruding position the latter being limited by stops 31. A mortise 32 with an inclined plane is made in each of the fingers.
Two pushers 33, projecting from the upper face of the foot 28, are slidably mounted in vertical housings formed in said foot and centered on the mortises 32, these pushers ending in a bevel coinciding with the inclined plane of the corresponding mortise. Return springs 34 normally maintain the pous evenings 33 in the position of FIG. 1. For this purpose, these pushers may have, for example, a groove over part of their height, in which the tip of a screw placed horizontally in the member 28 engages. A cavity 35 is formed in the wall. side of the cavity 29 to serve as an attachment to the fingers 30 when the foot 28 is engaged in this cavity 29.
Holes 36 are provided in the housing 1, so as to make the atmospheric pressure reign in the housing, all around the striking mass 6, 7, and above the piston 20.
An eyelet 37 fixed to the cover 2 allows easy operation of the device.
The pneumatic hammer described works as follows. On start-up, all the components are in the position shown in fig. 1, the striking mass 6, 7 is hung bare foot 28 integral with the rod 24 of the piston 23, by the fingers 30 engaged in the cavity 35. The piston 20 of the air pump occupies the top end-of-travel position.
Oil under pressure, supplied by an auxiliary pump 50, fig. 7, arrives via the terie pipe 27 and the bores 26 in the cylinder 12, under the piston 23, which it causes to rise by dragging the mass 6, 7. At the start of the first upstroke, the air contained in the cylinder 17 of the pump and in the air cylinder 10 with its dead spaces 15, is at atmospheric pressure. The check valve 22 closes during the rise and the air compresses in spaces 10, 15, 17.
The respective dead spaces of the pump and of the air cylinder 10 being proportioned such that the compression ratio in the pump is much greater than in the air cylinder; the pressure increases faster in cylinder 17 and opens check valve 18; air is thus returned from cylinder 17 into cylinder 10, through duct 16 and the corresponding opening 14.
Towards the end of the upstroke (fig. 2), the pushers 33 meet the underside of the piston 11, are inserted into the foot 28 of the rod 24, and their end bevels, cooperating with the inclined planes. mortises 32, bring the fingers 30 into their housings. This erasure of the fingers 30 releases the striking mass 6, 7 which is thrown downwards, on the anvil 3, under the combined action of its own weight and the relaxation of the compressed air in the cylinder 10 and the spaces dead 15.
The check valve 18 closes as soon as the compression is finished. The air of the cylinder 10 and the dead spaces 15 expands throughout the descent of the striking mass.
In the cylinder 17 of the pump, there is first expansion of the air remaining there. The valve 22 opens and lets in outside air, so that at the end of the downward stroke of the striking mass, the cylinder 17 is again filled with air at atmospheric pressure.
After the falling mass has released, when the piston 23 has reached the top of its stroke, the distributor cuts off the arrival of the liquid under the piston 23 and sends liquid under pressure to the upper face of said piston via the pipe 55 (fig. . 7). The piston 23 descends under the action of the pressure of the oil and the weight of the moving assembly 23, 24, 28 and delivers the oil through the pipe 27. At the start of this downstroke, the springs 34 return the pushers 33 in their initial position and release the fingers 30 which are pushed outwards by their springs.
Towards the end of the stroke, the fingers meet the inclined edge of the recess 29, as shown in fig. 4, and are then pushed into their housings until they are opposite the cavity 35, in which they engage under the action of their springs, so that the mass 6, 7 is again attached to the piston 23 and that the assembly will be in the position shown in fig. 1, ready for a new rise in striking mass, the oil pressure having meanwhile been restored in line 27.
The initial pressure in the air cylinder 10 is, however, already greater than the atmospheric pressure, because of the additional quantity of air which has been introduced into it by the pump 17, 20, so that the final compression pressure will be increased accordingly. At each cycle, the initial pressure and the final compression pressure in the cylinder 10 and the dead spaces 15 will be increased, until the final pressure there has reached the value determined by the adjustment of the safety valve. For this purpose, the compression ratio of the pump 17, 20 must be greater than that produced in the cylinder 10.
This normal operating pressure is reached after a number of cycles which is a function of the value of this pressure and, from this moment, the pump is only used to compensate for the leaks in order to maintain the operating pressure at the desired value. The excess air delivered by the pump will be evacuated by the valve 19. The residual pressure in the cylinder 10 after each expansion exerts a static force on the mass 6, 7 and keeps the latter pressed against the base 3. This pressure can be determined at will 'and can be changed as required by adjusting valve 19.
It goes without saying that one could use a set of interchangeable valves 19 and each provided with a spring of different force, but the use of an adjustable pressure valve is simpler than the replacement of the valve.
It will be noted that the apparatus does not require the use of steam or compressed air to be supplied by a separate generator. This avoids any risk of operating disturbances which frequently occur in compressed air devices as a result of practically inevitable small leaks. The hydraulic system described for lifting the striking mass could be replaced by any suitable drive device, for example an electrical device or a mechanical device, an exemplary embodiment of which will be described below with reference to FIG. . 8.
Fig. 6 shows another device for hooking up the striking mass. In this case, the foot 38 of the rod 24 comprises two diametrically opposed housings, in which are arranged two hooks 39 which can oscillate, by means of bearings, on two pins 40 fixed in the foot 38 and passing through the housings formed in this one. Two pulling spells 41, located on either side of the rod 24, are attached to extensions 42 of the hooks, above the pins 40. These spells therefore tend to push the lower noses of the hooks 39 towards outside. In its upper face, the mass 6 has a central cavity in which extend two pins 43 mounted on bearings in said mass.
Two parts 44, each forming an inclined plane 45 above an axis 43, are fixed to the mass 6, using screws (not shown).
At the lower part of the piston 11 are fixed a central guide 46 and two lateral guides (not shown), for each of the two stops 47 which are provided to cooperate with heels 48 provided on the hooks 39 and are mounted with shock absorbers. shocks formed, for example, by a series of elastic washers 49. FIG. 6 shows the mass 6, 7 attached to the rod 24, at the moment when the release will be done near the end of the race my aunt. The heels 48 of the hooks 39 come into contact with the stops 47 and cause the hooks to oscillate on the pins 40 while the rod 24 continues its upward movement. The nozzles of the hooks roll on the pins 43, escape from them, releasing the mass 6, 7 and return to the position shown, under the action of the springs 41.
After the striking mass has fallen, the rod 24 descends again and the nozzles of the hooks meet the inclined planes 45, move inwards against the action of the springs 41, then slide on the pins 43 and finally hook under. these. In this way, the mass 6, 7 again becomes integral with the rod 24 and will follow the latter during its upward movement. Fig. 7 shows a hydraulic control device for producing the reciprocating movement of the rod 24, the head 28 of which is provided with any device for hooking the mass 6, 7. The pressurized liquid is provided by a pump 50 driven by an electric motor or the like (not shown).
The pump set is mounted on an independent frame or on the platform of the machine from which the hammer is suspended. The pump is connected to the hammer by means of a double articulated pipe 51, 52, which is required by the displacement of the hammer as the pile is driven, sheet pile or the like.
These pipes, respectively suction and delivery of the pump, are connected to the distributor 53 located in a housing on the mounting of the cover 2 and connected by a terie pipe 27 to the lower part of the cylinder 12 and by a pipe 55 to the part. upper of it. The distributor is controlled by a pusher 56 sliding in a sleeve 57 and carrying, at its lower part, a double stop 58, 59 arranged in a central hollow 60 of the rod 24.
When the pressurized liquid is brought by 27 under the piston 23, the latter rises until the bottom of the hollow 60 meets the stop 59 and moves the pusher 56 which controls the distributor 53 to cut off the supply. by 27 and bring the liquid under pressure through the pipe 5.5 above the pis ton 23, the liquid located under the latter escaping through 27. Towards the end of the descent of the piston, the upper wall of the hollow 60 meets the stop 58 and drives the pusher 56 to reverse the distributor which again sends liquid under pressure under the piston to produce a new rise of the rod 24. As shown in FIG. 8, this rod can also be controlled mechanically.
The rod 24 is provided with a head 61 provided with sliding shoes in a guide 62 fixed to the cover 2 of the pneumatic hammer. This head is joined to a connecting rod 63 freely passing through this cover and driven in a reciprocating motion by a mechanism housed in a housing fixed to the cover 2. In the example illustrated, this mechanism comprises an electric motor 64, which drives, by means of a set of bevel gears 65 and a speed reducer 66, an elbow shaft 67 to the crankpin of which the end of the connecting rod 63 is attached.
