Fitting for flexible pipe Fittings for flexible pipes made of plastic and elastic are already included, comprising a sleeve placed on the outer periphery of the pipe to be to be connected and a fitting fitting in said pipe. The pipe is compressed between the sleeve and the nozzle, which ensures its retention.
In these known fittings, the space formed between the sleeve which surrounds the pipe and the end piece introduced into the pipe comprises a narrowed part obtained, either after mounting by special tooling, or by using an annular part such as split ring. This narrowed part compresses the pipe and ensures its retention.
These fittings have various drawbacks and in particular the following : 1. The shrinkage causes creep out of the connection zone of the material of the pipe during its compression.
2. The pressure distribution in the part of the pipe clamped between the sleeve and the nozzle is not rational.
In fact, in all of these fittings, the maximum compression of the wall of the pipe to to be connected is obtained during assembly at the level of the greatest constriction.
This internal compression is therefore de- increasing on each side of this privileged section, which has the effect, given the particular characteristics of the materials used for the pipes, of causing over time the gradual creep of these towards the zones of least compression and 'at the same time as the maximum compression of the pipe wall lower the initial efficiency of the connection.
The aim of the present invention is in particular to remedy these drawbacks.
Its object is a fitting for a flexible pipe, comprising a sleeve surrounding the outer surface of the end of the pipe to to be connected and a nozzle intended to be introduced into said pipe. , said end piece being to placed with the pipe inside the inside of the socket so that the pipe is clamped between the inner surface of the socket and the outer surface of the nozzle, connector characterized by the fact that the sleeve and the end respectively have internal and external surfaces of different taper, so to give to </ B > the wall of the end of the pipe gradually increasing in thickness towards its edge, said end piece having a shoulder bearing against the extreme face of the pipe,
this arrangement making it possible to distribute the pressure to which the material constituting the pipe is subjected in such a way that the maximum values are reached at the end of said pipe, which allows to ensure, on the one hand, the tightness of the connection and, on the other hand, to prevent any creep of the material of the pipe outside the connection zone.
Embodiments of the object of the invention are shown to by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which : FIG. 1 is a view, half in elevation, half in section, of a connector according to a first embodiment; this fitting is shown assembled, but not tightened.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the connector of FIG. 1, shown after final tightening.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of another fitting. The external sleeve is hung on a textile or metal braid of the pipe to to be connected.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of a third connection.
The connector shown in fig. 1 com carries : - a metal sleeve 14 whose external shape is designed so that easy machining allows for a minimum space requirement without compromising to its mechanical resistance. This lique metal sleeve 14 bears on the outer wall of the pipe T to to be connected.
- a hollow male end 15 , one end of which engages in the pipe T to connect.
The metal sleeve 14 has a hexagon 16 making it possible to hold it à using a wrench when tightening the fitting.
The metal sleeve 14 is internally provided with : - a tapping 17 in which a bolt 18 < / B> intended for tightening the fitting.
- of a cylindrical part 19 having a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the internal thread 17 and against which the outer wall of the end is supported of the pipe to connect T. - of a frustoconical surface 20 of inclination a with respect to to the axis of symmetry of the coupling. This frustoconical surface 20 has teeth 21, the number and dimensions of which depend on the nature and dimensions of the pipe to to connect T, as well as de the importance of the maximum pressure that the fitting must withstand.
- a cylindrical portion 22 extending the frustoconical portion 20 and whose diameter is determined by the dimensions of the flexible pipe used.
- of a frustoconical surface 23 extending the cylindrical surface 22 and followed by a cylindrical bore 24 whose diameter is equal to the free external diameter of the pipe to < / B> connect T.
Likewise, the male end 15 which enters the orifice of the pipe to to be connected, has an end of frustoconical outer shape 25 forming with the axis of symmetry of the connection an angle p such that we have : a > P. This frustoconical part 25 < / B> of the male end 15 is also provided with teeth 26; it is extended by a cylindrical part 27 with rounded end whose the outside diameter is very slightly- greater than that of the free orifice of the pipe to connect T.
The male end 15 also has a collar 28 resting on the one hand against the face 29 of the bolt 18 </ B> and on the other hand against the end 30 of the pipe T. The outside diameter of this collar 28 is slightly less than that of the internal thread 17 of the sleeve 1.4 and of the cylindrical part 19 of this metal sleeve 14.
It will be noted that the frustoconical part 23 followed by the cylindrical bore 24 is intended to facilitate the fitting of the sleeve and to improve the resistance of the connector and of the pipe T to alternating bends. The dimensions and inclination of the frustoconical part 23 are fixed accordingly.
The angle of inclination P of the truncated conical surface 25 is a function of the inclination a of the frustoconical surface 20 of the metal sleeve 14.
The dimensions of the fitting are fixed so that, in the position corresponding to the start of assembly shown in to in fig. 1, the bolt 18 pressing on the collar 28 of the male connector 15 and said collar being itself even in contact with the end 30 of the pipe to to be connected T, the rounded end of the cylindrical part 27 comes approximately to the right of the beginning of the bore 22 existing in the metal sleeve 14. The diameter of this bore 22 is determined according to the diameter of the pipe to to connect T and the maximum pressure to withstand by him. This diameter is always significantly smaller than the free external diameter of the T pipe.
The fitting is put in place as follows: The pipe T, cut squarely and cleaned, is placed in the metal sleeve 14 until its end comes at a distance L the end of the hexagon 16. This distance L is set at in advance and according to the diameter of the pipe T and the maximum pressure that it must support.
The metal male end 15 is introduced into the pipe T until the bolt 18 can begin to to screw into the tap dage 17 of the metal sleeve 14.
Tightening is then continued using a wrench. The assembly is finished when the nut 18 has reached the position shown in in fig. 2.
It is easy to understand how the watertightness of the fitting is obtained : The various parts of this fitting being placed at the start of assembly, as shown in fig. 1, tightening the bolt 18 by means of a wrench in the internal thread 17 of the metal sleeve 14, pushes the male end < B> 15 by means of the collar 28 carried by this end piece. This collar 28 also pushes the pipe towards the outlet of the fitting.
It is easy to understand that the volume of the plastic and elastic material of the pipe returned by the flange 14 is greater than the volume which can escape from the fitting, this to because of the section. of the S constriction created between the bores 22 and 27.
In this way, compression of the pipe occurs. The teeth existing on the frustoconical surfaces 20 and 25 prevent any flow of the material constituting the pipe out of the fitting.
The pressure exerted by the bolt 18 on the pipe wall depends on the stroke of the bolt 18 and can reach considerable values. By varying the distance L, the maximum values of this pressure can be varied.
The pressure distribution is such that the maximum values are reached at the end of the pipe and decrease towards the outlet of the fitting. Surfaces 22, 23 and 24 allow the pipe to gradually return to its initial state. The rounded end of the cylindrical part 27 of the male end piece 15 is set back from the end of the metal sleeve 14 as shown in fig. 2, this in order to avoid internal deterioration of the flexible pipe during alternating bending. A for example, tests carried out on a metal braided pipe (rubberized pipe ) made it possible to reach and even exceed the pressure of 2000 kg / cra2 for an internal diameter of 4 mm.
The connection described above and shown in fig. 1 and 2 have many advantages and in particular the following : lo It can be assembled without special tools. 2o The dimensional tolerances inherent in the manufacture of flexible pipes and the eccentricity of the interior and exterior walls are easily absorbed by varying the distance L.
30 The maximum achievable compression pressure can vary within considerable limits.
4o The parts constituting the fitting can be dismantled and reused as well as the pipe. 5o The pressure near the collar 28 prevents any leakage at this location ; in fact, in other fittings, this leak has the effect of to allow the fluid to penetrate the metal or textile braids of the hose. These latter form ideal leakage lines and channel said fluid into the inner wall of the pipe, which generally has the effect of causing a hernia and deterioration of the outer gum layer at a short distance. of the fitting.
60 The wall pressure being zero at its outlet, ensures excellent resistance of these connections to alternating bending.
7) The teeth produced on the conical sections of the metal sleeve 14 and of the end cap 15, joined to the difference in inclination of these two surfaces, allow the fitting to resist to tensile forces exerted on the pipe, either under the effect of the pressure of the channeled fluid, or under the effect of an external cause.
The connector shown in fig. 3 is analogous to that shown in fig. 1 and 2 with the difference that the metal sleeve 14 is mounted directly on the metal braid of the T pipe previously stripped in the connection area. This connection is particularly advantageous in the case where there are high alternating pressures and when it is located in immediate proximity to a significant heat source. In fact, the thermal conductivity between the metal braid of the pipe and the fitting makes it possible to avoid the accumulation of a large quantity of heat at a given point, which thus prevents the immediate and rapid deterioration of the pipe.
Another form of execution is shown in fig. 4. In this figure, the bolt 18 and the end piece 15 form a single part. This end piece 15 has a cylindrical part 31 which engages in a cylindrical bore 32 of the metal sleeve 14. The pipe T to rac corder is interposed between the sleeve 14 and a smooth frustoconical part 33 of the end piece 15. The end of this pipe abuts against a shoulder 34 delimiting the cylindrical surface 31 and the frustoconical surface 33 of the male end 15.
Grooves 35 and 36 are made in the metal sleeve 14 and in the male end 15, these grooves being brought opposite after displacement of the tip 15 relative to to the sleeve 14 in order to receive a split ring 37 making it possible to immobilize the tip 15 < / B> on the metal sleeve 14. The assembly of such a connector is carried out in the same way as that described above. The advancement of the tip 15 in the sleeve 14 is carried out with using a press. Two or more holes 38 allow the possible disassembly of the assembly.
Finally ' the male end 15 is terminated by a threaded base 40 allowing the direct mounting of the connector in a threaded hole.
This type of fitting is particularly suitable for making large series of pipe connections of the same diameter.
