Le tiroir40a coulissant dans une boîte de distribution 40 régit la succession des divers opérations et mouvements des mâchoires pen- dant les opérations de rentrage et de centrage. Ces opérations s'effectuent comme suit : après que la ligne a été reçue entre les mâchoires, une ou chacune des mâchoires de rentrage est ame née au contact de la ligne composée ; entre la première justification et la seconde justifica tion, la poussée de la mâchoire (ou des mâchoi res) est supprimée, afin de rendre possible une dernière rectification précise de l'alignement des matrices par rapport au moule ; la poussée totale exercée sur la mâchoire (ou les mâchoi res) est alors rétablie en vue du clichage ;

In normal machine operation, character matrices and expandable space bands are dialed in-line for delivery to a vertically movable conveyor, or first elevator (not shown), which descends to place the dialed line between. a left jaw 1 and a right jaw 2 (fig. 3) and at the front of a slot mold (not shown), the latter then advancing to come into contact with the line and the two line clamp jaws and perform the platemaking of the line-block.
Prior to platemaking, the line of dies is suitably aligned, in the usual manner, with respect to the mold, and this line is justified, i.e. the wedge-shaped space bands are driven towards the center. top by a horizontal justification bar 3 whose role is to widen the line between the fixed jaws.
The bar 3 is pivotally supported, at its opposite ends, by two vertical rods 4 and 3 guided in the vice frame A of the machine; and the movement of these rods is effected, as usual, by two levers of the tines to move in the front-rear direction, which levers, subjected to the action of springs, are controlled by cams carried by the main camshaft B of the ma chine. The justification lever which governs the movement of the rod 5 has not been shown, but the lever which governs the operation of the rod 4 has been represented and designated by 6 (FIG. 1).
In general, the justification of a line of compound matrices involves two distinct operations: the first is a preliminary operation which, by moving the rod 5 upwards, causes the lifting of the justification bar 3 to 'in an inclined position the angle of which is determined by the assembly provided between the uncontrolled end of the bar 3 and a diagonal spacer 7 which rises with the rod 5; and the second operation, which takes place after the return of the rod 5 to its lower position and before the platemaking, is carried out using the two cam-controlled levers which move the rods 4 and 5 upward. , in synchronism, to perform the final justification of the line between the clamping jaws.
As shown in fi-. 3, the lever 8 is provided with two arms 6a and 6b; the arm 6b being mechanically connected to the rod 4, and the arm 6n being connected by a rod 8 to a closing and release mechanism which is intended for the left jaw and will be described in more detail below.
After the block line has been platenized, the line of dies is brought by the first elevator to a higher level from which the separation of the dies and the space bands and the return of these elements to their respective stores takes place. . The first elevator then receives a lowering motion to an intermediate level, or line receiving position, just before the completion of the machine cycle.
Line clamp jaws 1 and 2 are rigidly attached to jaw blocks 1a and 2a which are arranged horizontally and slidably mounted in the vice frame A of the machine (Fig. 18). The left jaw block 1a is movable longitudinally to allow the left jaw to be adjusted in position by a movement which moves it away from or closer to the right jaw in order to receive lines of different lengths. sweats. This adjustment of the left jaw is effected by means of a threaded rod 18 which is assembled with a threaded jaw block opening 1a.
On the right, the threaded rod 15 is connected by a telescopic joint to a rotating sleeve 17 which passes through a longitudinal cavity with a cylindrical seat formed in the right jaw block 2a, so that the rotation of the sleeve 17 has no effect on jaw block 2a. To establish the telescopic assembly, the threaded rod 15 is provided with one or more flats which come into contact with similar flats provided inside the bush 17.
Thanks to this arrangement, the rotation of the socket rotates the threaded rod to move the left jaw in a direction which brings it closer to or away from the right jaw, but the telescopic link leaves the left jaw. and the block 1 is free to be moved independently in a direction which brings them closer to or away from the right jaw, during the retraction and centering operations. The adjustment device which has just been described for the left jaw is known.
Line clamps 1 and 2 have been established so that they can work in cooperation with lines whose length is less than the entire length, in order to allow the plate-making of block lines with spaces or blanks either to one or the other of the ends, with a view to retracting the line, or at both ends, with a view to centering. When retracting using the left jaw, the right jaw 2 remains fixed; when retracting with the right jaw, the left jaw remains fixed; and in the retraction with the two jaws, or centering, the two jaws move an equal distance towards each other.
The movements of the jaws are effected under a hydraulic pressure which is governed by means of two double-acting pistons 10 and 11 (see fig. 8 and 18) which are arranged horizontally, the piston 10 being arranged in alignment. of the left jaw block 1a and mechanically connected to this block, and the piston 11 being arranged in alignment with the right jaw block 2a and mechanically connected to this block. The pistons 10 and 11 move in opposite directions within cylinders 12 and 13, respectively, which are arranged parallel to each other side by side, these cylinders being formed inside a housing C, which is of preferably secured to the left side of the vice frame A.
As shown in fig. 8, the right-hand extremities of cylinders 12 and 13 are closed by members 80 ensuring the sealing of the piston rods. The piston 10 is subject to the left end of its rod 10a, and the piston 11 is secured to the right end, so that the pinion engages with the 1st rack 14 only when it occupies its upper position. (which corresponds to the centering position). In other words, the jaws 1 and 2 are interconnected mechanically, by means of the racks 14 and 18 and of the pin gnon 18, only for the purpose of centering operations, whereas, for all other operations , the pinion meshes only with the 1st rack 14.
The operating handle 21 performs the vertical movement of the pinion by means of a mechanical transmission (fig. 6 and 7), which comprises a rotary shaft 22, on which the handle is mounted, a cam 23 mounted centrally on the shaft and a vertical slide 24 to which is pinned the lower end of the shaft 19, the cam 23, when it rotates, acting either on an upper roller 24a carried by the slide, to raise the latter, or on a lower roller 24b of said slide, to lower the latter.
As the pinion is intended to occupy its lower position with a view to retraction by one or the other of the jaws or for regular operation of the machine, the radius of the cam 23 is the same, regardless of that of these three positions to which the handle 21 has been brought by an angular movement, the high point of the cam being in contact with the lower roller 24b; however, when the operating handle is brought to the centering position, the inclined high point of the cam contacts the upper roller 24a and consequently lifts the pinion 18 into engagement with the rack 14.
The shaft 23, which moves in the front-rear direction, rotates inside a housing D which is secured to the front of a larger support, E, mounted on the vice frame; and these two members D and E constitute the bearings of the rotary shaft. The operating handle 21 is mounted concentrically on the front end of the shaft 22 and the four working positions of this handle are suitably marked on the handle so that it can be adjusted by bringing one of the handles. marks facing a fixed index, a ball and spring retaining device being provided to maintain said handle in each of its positions.
Besides that the operating handle 21 determines the position of the pinion 18, it effects the supply of a rotary selector valve 27 (fig. 8 to 12 and 17) to any one of a series of four different positions. The selector valve 27 is rotatably mounted in the housing C, rings 27a and 27b (see fig. 7) and the outer periphery 27c of the valve proper play. the role of staves.
A pinion 28 is rigidly fixed to a shaft end 27d projecting rearwardly from the valve 27, the rotation of this pinion being effected, from the handle 21, using a pinion 29 which is secured to the rear end of shaft 22 and to a long horizontal rack 30 which meshes both with pinion 23 and with pinion 29 (fig. 5). Rack 30 moves below a horizontal edge of bracket E (fig. 6) and is held in engagement with pinion 29 by a roller 31 which rolls in contact with the smooth upper surface of the rack. , the other end of the rack moving in a guide provided for this purpose in the housing C.
The role of the rotary selector valve 27 is to establish hydraulic paths leading to one or the other or to each of the cylinders 12 and 13 with a view to retracting and centering operations, and to cause the passage of the fluid. hydraulic outside of the two cylinders by a pipe @ '. e bypass during regular operation.
As emerges in particular from FIG. 8, the hydraulic fluid is stored in a reservoir 33 placed near the base of the machine and suspended below a housing 40, using a special support H fixed with bolts to the main frame F of the machine (see fig. 20); and the hydraulic fluid is circulated inside the apparatus by means of a gear pump 24 which operates continuously and which is also mounted (see fia. 2) on the main frame F.
The pump 34 receives its command from an electric motor G, which drives the main camshaft F of the machine in the usual way, via a mechanical transmission comprising a small pinion 38, a large wheel toothed 38 mounted loose on the main clutch shaft and a friction clutch 39, the drive of the pump 34 being derived by a small pinion 37 of the large toothed wheel 36 rotating continuously.
The work cycle of the hydraulic device is controlled from the main camshaft B of the machine by a slurry distributor placed inside a distribution box 40. As shown in fig. . 1, a lever 42, pivoting about a point close to its middle, is provided with a cam follower roller 42a which is kept in contact with the contour of a special cam 41 of the main shaft H by a tension spring 43 acting on the lower end of the lever 42. The lower end of the lever 42 is connected to a rod forming a distributor spool 40a by a link 44 articulated at its two ends.
The slide 40a in a distribution box 40 governs the succession of the various operations and movements of the jaws during the retraction and centering operations. These operations are carried out as follows: after the line has been received between the jaws, one or each of the retraction jaws is born in contact with the compound line; between the first justification and the second justification, the thrust of the jaw (or jaws) is suppressed, in order to make possible a final precise rectification of the alignment of the dies with respect to the mold; the total thrust exerted on the jaw (or the jaws) is then reestablished with a view to platemaking;
after platemaking, the thrust is again removed, although the jaws are still under reduced thrust, and kept in scraping or wiping contact with the ends of the line, in order to remove any excess metal of extreme dies and clamp jaws; finally, the return movement of the jaw (or jaws) to the initial or full-length position is effected prior to receiving the next row.
The sliding drawer discussed above comprises the aforementioned rod 40a, cam operated, sliding inside an upper cylindrical drawer chamber 40b of the box 40, a lower horizontal pressure chamber 40c, communicating with the chamber 40b by slots 40c and 40e provided at both ends of the chamber 40c, slots 45, 48, 47 and 46 through which the pipes designated by the same references open into the drawer chamber 40b at mutually spaced points , and three collets or cylindrical drawer seats 40f, 40g and 40h,
which are arranged inside the cylinder dre or slide chamber 40b at points distributed along a thinned rod 401 which connects these collars to the end rods 40a and 40b behaving both in the manner of collars or worn drawer and the way of proper seals to prevent fluid from escaping as drawer leaks.
There are two communication paths between the slide chamber 40b and the reservoir 33. One of these paths is established through the pressure chamber 40e and a spring check valve 50 and the other is established direct. ment by a vertical duct 41 (normally closed by the surface 40b of the drawer itself) and a spring-loaded check valve 52. It should now be noted that the pressure required to open the valve 50 is much higher than that required. to open the valve 52. Likewise, an open conduit 58, formed in the housing C, communicates the pipe 46 (exhaust pipe) directly with the reservoir 33.
The rotary selector valve 27 has a grooved duct 53, which is formed over 1800 of its periphery, as well as a rectangularly bent duct, 54, which passes through the center of the valve and with which the lights or openings 54a communicate. and 54b (see fig. 17) located 200 from each other; each of the lights 54a and 54b is located at 54 with respect to an opposite end of the grooved duct 53.
The rotary valve is also provided with an outer channel 55 which extends in the front-to-rear direction and which is centrally located between the ports 54a and 54b and terminates in a circular groove 58 located between the rear face of the valve. valve 27 and an annular rim 27c (see fig. 17). The fluid entering the groove 56 from the channel 55 returns to the reservoir 33 via a conduit 59, which opens into the pipe 48 and returns into the open passage 58 opening into the reservoir.
Using the rotary valve 27, different paths are formed for the flow of the fluid between four ports of the distribution box C, these four ports being located 900 from each other (fig. 8 to 12).
The light 47a is connected to the drawer itself by a pipe 47; the lumen 80a, located at the lower part, leads to the cylinder 12 via a pipe 60, the fluid which moves in this direction acting on the piston 10 to close the left jaw 1; the light 46a, located on the left, communicates with the exhaust pipe 46; and the lumen 61, located at the top, is connected directly to the cylinder 13, the fluid which moves in this direction performing the action of closing the right jaw 2.
As shown in fig. 8, the inlet or suction end of the rotary pump 34 is connected by a pipe 57 to the reservoir 33; and the exhaust or discharge port of said pump is connected by pipe 48 to spool box 40, the fluid (oil) circulating continuously in the hydraulic apparatus. Preferably, the hydraulic apparatus is closed, free of air and filled with liquid at all times.
The position occupied by the rotary selector valve 27, when the handle 21 has been angularly my noeuvrée with a view to retracting using the right jaw is shown in FIG. 10. As explained previously, bringing the handle 21 to this position leaves the pinion 18 in its lower position, that is to say disengaged from the rack 14.
At the start of the machine cycle, the spool occupies its neutral and rest position, shown in fig. 13, the fluid being transferred from the pressure pipe 48 (see fig. 8) to the slide chamber 40b and then passing around the collar 40g to enter the open duct 58 and thus return to the reservoir 33.
During the cycle of the machine, a depression 41a of the special cam 41 (fig. 1) controlling the spool, moves the rod 40a and brings it to the high pressure closed position, shown in fig. . 14, in which the fluid arriving through the pipe 48 is transferred to the pipe 47 serving to effect the closing of the right jaw 2, then passes through the light 47a to enter the passage 54 of the valve 27 and finally returns through the lumen 61 to the cylinder 13, in which it moves the piston 11 to the left until the right jaw 2 comes into contact following the pressurized liquid enters, through the port 40e, into the pressure chamber 40c, exits from this room by 40d light,
enters the jaw opening pipe, 48, then passes through the pipe 45a inside the chamber 13 where it acts on the piston 11 to bring it back to the right to its normal position . The fluid leaving the opposite side of the piston is returned to the reservoir 33 via the conduits 61, 54, 47 and 58. Finally, a raised portion 41f of the cam 41 returns the spool to the normal or neutral position of FIG. 13, said drawer remains in this position while the machine is at rest and until the next cycle begins.
To carry out the retraction using the -left jaw, the selector valve 27 is adjusted to bring it to the position shown in fi-. 12. Of course, the cycle of the drawer is the same as that previously described. In the neutral position, shown in fig. 13, the fluid passes through chamber 40b to reach return conduit 58 and return to reservoir 33.
The drawer is then brought to the high pressure closed position, shown in fig. 14, where the fluid, arriving through the delivery pipe 48 of the pump, passes through the jaw opening pipe 47, the passage 54 of the selector valve and the lumen 60a of the drawer box C, to be then transferred by pipe 60 to chamber 12, so as to push piston 10 to the right, looking at fig. 8. This movement of the piston to the right has the effect of closing the left jaw 1 against the line and, when the jaw cannot be moved any further, the pressure of the liquid causes the high pressure check valve to open. 50, which maintains the pressure and allows the liquid to return to the reservoir.
The drawer is then brought to the low pressure closed position shown in fig. 15, in which the passage 51 communicates with the low pressure check valve 52 so as to decrease the thrust exerted on the jaws in order to effect the alignment of the dies. Before platemaking, the spool is returned to the high pressure closed position (fig. 14) to close communication with the low pressure check valve, so that the high pressure valve 50 restores the thrust exerted by jaws on the die line.
After platemaking, the drawer is returned to its low pressure closed position (Fig. 15) to complete the jaw snapping action when the die line is removed from said jaws. The drawer is then brought to the opening position of the jaws, shown in fig. 16, which establishes the pressure, via the pipe 45 and the branch pipe 45b, to return the piston 10 to its left position. The fluid leaving the opposite end of the piston returns to the reservoir 33 through the conduits 60, 54, 47 and 58. Finally, the spool is returned to the neutral position of FIG. 13 before the end of the cycle.
With a view to centering, the selector valve 27 is adjusted so as to bring it to the position of FIG. 11. As described above, the operation of the handle 21 to the centering position has the effect of raising the pinion 18 so as to make it mesh with the rear rack 14, this pinion nevertheless remaining in engagement. with the front rack 18 (fig. 5 and 18).
When the spool moves from the neutral position (fig. 13) to the high pressure closing position (fig. 14), the fluid coming from the pump outlet passes in the usual way through pipes 48 and 47 then enters the semicircular channel or groove 53 of the selector valve and arrives at passages 80 and 81, the latter terminating in cylinder 13 of piston 11, while passage 80 terminates inside cylinder 12 of piston 10. The two pistons are thus actuated so as to close the two jaws I and 2 against the line, and the pinion 18 maintains the relationship between these jaws so that they move uniformly at equal distances.
To ensure high precision centering, it is advisable to eliminate the effect of any play that may exist in the rack and pinion connection provided between the jaws. This is achieved by giving one of the pistons an effective section a little larger than the other, which slightly unbalances the forces exerted on the racks 14 and 16 so that the clearance is always in the Same direction.
In the present embodiment, the left face of the piston 10 contained in the cylinder 12 is given a slightly larger section than that given to the right face of the piston 11 contained in the cylinder. cylinder 13, so that the thrust exerted by the intermediary of the rack 14 with a view to closing the jaws is greater than that exerted by the intermediary of the rack 16.
It follows that the rack 18 tends to stay behind and to be driven by the pinion 18, given that the rack 14 drives the pinion 18, and that the latter drags the rack 16, the jaws act on the ends of line and push the line while the sprocket teeth are kept in constant contact with the same sides of the chainring teeth. As a result, the play is eliminated as soon as the locking of the jaws against the ends of the line has been established.
The cycle of the distributor spool during centering will now be described. After the jaws have closed on the center line, the thrust exerted on the jaws is reduced to effect die alignment, during which the spool is brought to the indicated low pressure closed position. in fig. 15; the drawer is then returned to the high pressure closed position, shown in fig. 14, prior to platemaking.
After platemaking, as described previously with regard to the retraction operations, the spool is returned to the low pressure jaw scraping position (fig. 15) then is brought to the jaw open position (fi. 16), the fluid passing through the pipe 45 and the two connections 45a and 45b to return the pistons to the normal opening position of the jaws. The fluid located on the sides of the pistons, through which the jaws are closed, is returned to the tank see 33 by the passages 60, 61, 53, 47 and 58. Finally, the slide is returned to the normal position of the valve. fig. 13 at the end of the machine cycle.
When the selector valve 27 has been brought to the regular position (Fig. 8 and 9) by the rotation of the operating handle 21, the cycle of the spool 40 does not effect the movement of the jaws. At the start of the machine's cycle, the drawer occupies its neutral or rest position, shown in fig. 8 and 13, and the fluid, delivered through the pipe 48 into the part of the slide chamber 40b between the 40g and 40h bearing collars, passes around the 40g collar and returns to the reservoir 33 via the open conduit 58. S ' he had the possibility, the fluid would also return to the reservoir through the pipe 47, the semicircular groove 53 of the valve 27, the exhaust pipe 40 and the passage 58.
When the drawer occupies the positions shown in fig. 14 and 15, the fluid passes through the pipe 48, the pipe 47 and the semi-circular groove 53 of the selector valve in the exhaust pipe 48. When the spool occupies the position indicated in FIG. 18, the fluid arriving through the pipe 48 passes through the lumen 40e; the pressure chamber 40c and the port 40d, and arrives at the left end of the slide chamber 40b, then it is admitted to the cylinder 13 through the pipe 45, through the connection 45a, as well as to the cylinder 12 through branch 45b, the pressure increasing in cylinders 12 and 13 until the high pressure check valve 50 has opened, after which fluid returns to reservoir 33 through this valve pet.
As the jaws are not actuated during regular operation, the pressure which is established in the cylinders 12 and 13, and acts on the pistons 10 and 11, simply ensures their maintenance in the normal opening position and no has no other effect. A little before the end of the cycle, the spool is brought to the neutral position in fig. 13. The channel 55, the groove 58 and the conduit 59 ensure the return of the fluid from the closing side of the jaws of the piston 11 of the right jaw to the exhaust pipe 46, while the conduit 60 and the semi-circular groove 53 return fluid to said exhaust pipe from the jaw closure side of piston 10 of the left jaw.
As previously mentioned, during regular machine operation, it is also desirable, for die alignment purposes with respect to the mold, to decrease the thrust exerted on the justified line between the dies. first and second justifications. This is achieved by moving the left jaw a small distance against the end of the line before the first justification and, once the first justification is completed, by bringing back said jaw by the aforementioned small distance, so to reduce the thrust exerted on the widened line, thus ensuring the necessary freedom to carry out the vertical alignment and the face alignment, before the final justification is carried out.
During the second justification, the jaw again receives movement a small distance to compress the line as the justification bar 3 is about to rise. After the platemaking, the left jaw is brought back by the small distance in question, that is to say to its normal position.
The mechanism provided for performing this action of the left jaw 1 is controlled by the vertical spring rod 8, which is freely connected, by its lower end, to the arm 6b of the spring and cam operated lever, 6. The lever 6 is pinned to the lower end of rod 8 and moves in a vertical slot 8a (see fig. 1). The rod 8 is constantly subjected to the traction of a spring 58 (fig. 1 and 3), which tends to raise it, but is normally kept in its lower position by the lever 6.
The upper end of this rod 8 is pivotably attached to an arm 66 (fig. 18 and 19) which is itself rigidly fixed, for example brazed, to the end of a socket 67 freely mounted on the piston rod 10n. The socket 67 is threaded to screw into a fixed annular collar 68 which is housed inside the housing C, in which it is locked by a screw 69. As seen in FIG. 18, the rack 14 to which the piston rod 10a is subject normally abuts against the right face of the arm 66 in the open position of the jaws.
When the rod 8 is pulled up, the arm 66 rotates the bush 67, and the threaded assembly between the bush and the collar 68 moves the bush relative to the collar, thereby moving the rack 14 and the left jaw a small distance to the right. The downward movement of the rod 8 reverses the movement of the parts 67, 68, allowing the jaw to return to its normal position under hydraulic pressure.
When a retraction is effected with the aid of the right jaw, the arm 66 is actuated for regular operation of the machine, but the role of this arm, in such conditions, is simply to establish the desirable fulcrum for the left jaw, rather than decreasing the thrust on the die line for alignment purposes. When the retraction is carried out using the left jaw, as in the case of centering, the rack 14 is not in contact with the arm 66, so that the movement communicated to the arm 68 under such conditions is entirely ineffective. While the operation of the mechanism is now clear, due to the foregoing detailed description, a few additional explanatory words may be helpful.
As we have seen, the selector valve 27 determines the path followed by the fluid inside the hydraulic device, and the automatically controlled spool 40 governs the succession of operations. The volume of fluid circulated is determined by the flow rate of pump 34. This last point is important because, during retraction or centering, it is desirable that the movement imparted to the jaws be so slow. as possible, but that this movement takes place in a suitable time relation to that of the other parts of the machine.
When the compound line has been placed between the jaws, liquid is forced inside the cylinders on the closing side of the jaws of the pistons, and the pistons are then actuated at a relatively low, but constant speed. , until the jaws have been stopped by their contact with the line, the fluid pressure increasing until the desired full thrust has been exerted on the line. In the present case, this thrust is 50 kg for the right jaw and 55 kg for the left jaw, although these forces can be reduced, for example to 30 kg for the right jaw and 35 kg for the left jaw. The force can be adjusted as desired by the choice of a bare check valve 50 having the required force.
The reason why the two jaws are not subjected to the same force has already been stated. It should be noted that cylinder and piston devices perform not only the closing movements of the jaws, but also the necessary line clamping action of said jaws, unlike other retracting and centering mechanisms which have separate devices. to fulfill these two different functions. The second check valve 52 can also be adjusted to produce any desired jaw closing force during the die alignment operation and the jaw scraping action. Usually, a force of 5 to 10 kg is sufficient for both functions.
The automatic spool 40 ensures this pressure drop in the hydraulic apparatus at the desired times, while ensuring the pressure increase necessary to subject the jaws to the full thrust force, both before the alignment operation of the jaws. dies and before the platemaking operation. Since the cylinder and piston devices are of the double-acting type, they return the jaws to their initial full-line position after platemaking, making such a movement under the control of the spool 40, at the time and at the desired speed, in order to avoid any rapid and violent action when opening the jaws, in the same way that such rapid or violent action is avoided when closing the jaws.
The 5 kg of pressure difference exerted by the cylinder and piston devices during centering, in order to take up any play that may exist in the connections of the racks and pinions, are distributed equally between the two jaws. during centering. We can therefore consider that the force exerted by each of the two devices is substantially constant, whether it is a retraction using the left jaw, or the right jaw or a centering to using both jaws, regardless of the length of the compound line.
Arranging the cylinder and piston units in line with the respective jaws and connecting them directly to these jaws ensures positive action which eliminates the friction and backlash that may occur in motion transmissions. and which avoids the need to provide amplifying transmissions of movement or force.
The mechanism could easily be modified to enable the operations to be carried out pneumatically, but the application of a hydraulic apparatus such as that described gives much preferable and superior results. In the retraction and centering operations, the locking of the justification bar 3 is usually carried out, since full movement of the space bands is not desired.
As shown in fig. 3, this locking is obtained by rotating the lower end of a vertical pawl 70, suspended from the vice frame A, to bring it into engagement with a shoulder 71 which participates in the raising movement of the right rod 5 As the spacer 7 is secured to the left side of the justification bar, the locking of the rod 5 also has the effect of preventing the upward movement of the rod 4.
The movable pawl 70 is moved to come either to its working position or to its inactive position, by a vertical lever 72 which is freely mounted on the shaft 23 of the handle of my work 21, a connecting rod horizontal 73 connecting the lower end of the lever 72 to the pawl 70 at a point located below the pivot of this pawl. The lever 72 is provided with an arm 72a which extends obliquely upwards and carries at its upper end a roller intended to cooperate with a cam surface 74 (see FIG. 5) formed on the underside of the rack. horizontal 30.
When the operating handle 21 has been brought to the position corresponding to regular operation, the rack 30 has been moved to the left to the maximum extent, so that the cam face 74 is not in contact with the roller of the roller. oblique arm 72a and that the pawl 70 is held in its inactive position by a small tension spring 75 acting on the lever 72. However, when the operating handle 21 has been brought to the position corresponding to the operations of retraction or centering, the cam surface is in contact with the roller of the arm 72a and moves the pawl to bring it into engagement with the shoulder 71.
It will be noted that the sealing members 80 of the cylinders 12 and 13, through which the piston rods 10a and 1 slide during their movements of closing and opening of the jaws, are divided or compartmentalized into two halves by grooves to. low pressure, interior and exterior, which grooves are made in these components at mid-distance between their ends. These circular grooves communicate with each other by one or more conduits and their role is to evacuate any fluid liable to escape in the form of leaks from the first half of the sealing member, whether between the udder rods. movable and inside the sealing members, or between the outside of these members and the walls of the cylinders.
Drainage conduits, designated 82, are connected to the return groove 58 of the selector valve 27, and the leakage fluid passes thence into the return conduit 59. These low pressure drainage conduits are provided. between the ends of the sealing elements ensure better sealing.
The retracting and centering device can easily be modified with a view to automatic operation, for example by a ribbon control unit of the teletype-setter type. This variant has been shown in FIGS. 20 to 29.
To carry out the automatic positioning of the rotary selector valve 27 for the desired operation, the horizontal hoist rack 30 is intended to be controlled by a piston 90 which is attached to the left end of this rack and which slides in a cylinder 91 formed in a rear housing J mounted on the housing C. When the piston 90 occupies its normal left position (fig. 25 and 29).
The selector valve 27 has been adjusted for smooth operation. The piston 90 and the rack 30 can be moved to the right the distances necessary to bring the valve 27 to the retracted by the right jaw, retracted by the left jaw, and centering positions.
Two rotary solenoids 92 and 93 (fig. 39) and the conjugate pivoting stop members 94 and 95 controlled by these solenoids determine the stop position of the rack when the latter is actuated by the piston 90. As can be seen from the above. see it in fig. 25 to 29, a plate 96, provided with protruding teeth 96a and 96b, is moved by the rack 30 in the movement of the latter to the right. The first stop, or left stop, 94, is normally biased by a spring towards the desired position so that it engages with the tooth 96a (fig. 26), if it has not been brought by. rotates to its idle position, as a result of energizing solenoid 92.
The rotary selector valve 27 has been brought to its retracted position by the right jaw when the rack 30 is stopped in this position. The stop 95 is normally requested by a res goes out to its inactivity position, but when the two solenoids 92 and 93 are energized, the first, 92, disables the stop 94 and the second, 93, puts the stop 95 in action, this stop 95 coming into engagement with the second tooth 96b (fig. 27), the movement which the rack 30 can then perform bringing the selector valve to the desired position for retraction by the left jaw.
Finally, when the solenoid 92 is the only one energized to put the stop 94 out of action, the piston 90 drives the rack to the right until the tooth 96b has come into contact with a shoulder 97 provided on the housing J (see fig. 28), which brings the selector valve 27 to its centering position. The fluid serving to actuate the piston 90 is intended to be discharged through the spool distributor 40, while the spool itself said 40a occupies its jaw closed position, shown in FIG. 14.
However, in automatic operation, in order to be sure that the bringing of the selector valve 27 to the desired position will be effected before the closing of the operating jaw (s), and also to be sure that the line will have been received between the jaws before the retraction or centering operation begins, an auxiliary drawer with two elements 99-99a with cam control is provided (see fig. 24), which delays the passage of the fluid towards the clamping jaws as long as the piston 90 has not been actuated.
In addition, it is preferable that the piston 90 is returned to its normal left position during each of the machine cycles and, to facilitate the release of the pinion 18 from the rack 14 after the centering operations, the return of the piston is effected while the thrust exerted on the jaws is relatively low. The instant chosen for effecting the return of the piston 90 is situated between the moment when the jaw clinching operation has just been carried out and the moment when the high thrust effecting the opening of the jaws is about to be released. be exercised. Element 99a of drawer 99-99a ensures this precise adjustment over time.
The elements 99-99a of the auxiliary drawer are arranged in tandem and slide inside a cylinder 99b arranged directly above the main distribution spool box 40. The drawer 99-99a is controlled by a lever 101, similar to the lever 42 but occupying an opposite position relative to it, from a special cam 100 of the main camshaft 8 (fig. 20 and 21).
The timing of the cams 41 and 100 is such that the lever 42 operates first, thereby moving the rod 40a of the main spool to bring it to the high pressure jaw closed position (Fig. 14). When the spool occupies this position, the hydraulic fluid is discharged through the pipe 471 (which replaces the pipe 47 of the manually operated construction) and directed to the cylinder chamber 91 through the connection 47a1 (fig. 24. ).
Another connection 47b1 of the pipe 471, similar to the pipe 47 of the manually operated construction, ends like it at the rotary selector valve 27, the fluid passing through this connection having the role of performing the retraction operation. or centering for which the valve has been adjusted. As the auxiliary drawer 99-99a is normally closed at the start of the cycle, the fluid cannot pass through the pipe 47b1 until the piston 90 has been actuated to effect the positioning. suitable for selector valve 27.
Subsequently, at the desired moment of the machine cycle, the spool 99-99a is moved to the left (fig. 24) by a compression spring 99c housed in the cylinder 99b and a fluid circulation is established through the pipe. 47b1 to actuate the appropriate vise jaw for a retraction or centering operation.
Well in tension, when the auxiliary drawer opens, its element 99a allows the fluid contained in the exhaust side of the pistons 10 and 11 to return to the reservoir 33 through the pipe 45, the open drawer element 99a, the pipe 471 , the drawer box 40 and the return duct 58.
The succession of operations is then governed by the movements of the main spool, exactly as in manual operation, up to a moment which is subsequent to the operation of scraping the jaws (position of fig. 15) but which precedes the operation. operation of opening or reversing the jaws (position of fig. 16), the cam-controlled lever 101 then closing the drawer 99-99a. Then, when the main spool is brought to the position of opening or reversing the jaws, the fluid is directed by this spool and the pipes 451 and 45a1 and admitted to the cylinder 91 in order to bring the piston 90 back to its normal left position.
When the piston 90 has thus been removed, the auxiliary drawer 99-99a opens again, its element 99a allowing the fluid arriving from the main drawer to pass through the pipes 45 and 451 to return the jaws to the position of. opening and its element 99 allows the exhaust fluid to return to tank 33. Spool 99-99a remains open until the end of the machine cycle and is then returned to the closed position by the lever to cam control 101.
During the regular work of the machine, that is to say the operations carried out without retraction and without centering, the piston 90 remains in its normal left position. This is made possible by locking the lever 42 and maintaining the rod 40a of the main spool in its normal left position. In this position (fig. 8 and 13), the fluid can return freely to the reservoir 33 through the return duct 58, as explained previously, so that the pressure does not increase inside the tank. hydraulic device.
The device provided for locking the lever 42 in the non-operating position has been shown in FIGS. 21 to 23, in which the 104 designates a stop pawl which is hand held in the path of the lever 42 by a small tension spring 105 (fig. 23). Thus, during regular operation of the machine, the lever 42 is kept out of action by the stop pawl 104. This pawl is intended to be unlocked, during a retraction or centering operation, by a rotary solenoid. 106, the excitation of which is controlled by a suitable electrical control circuit.
