Device for fixing a watch to a support The object of the present invention is a device for fixing a watch to a support. This device is characterized in that it comprises an articulation arranged in such a way that the watch can be oriented at will with respect to the support and that it retains the orientation which has been given to it.
One embodiment of the fixing device, object of the invention, is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which FIGS. 1 and 2 are plan views of the watch fixed to its support, in two different positions; fig. 3 is a view in diametral section, on a larger scale; and fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the watch separated from its support.
Referring first to Figs. 3 and 4, it can be seen that the movement 1 of the watch is housed in a case comprising a bezel-case 2 and a back 3, preferably made of steel. A pin 4, driven into one or slot 5 of the base 3, is engaged in one or slot 6 of the middle-bezel 2, and it hand holds said bottom in a determined angular position with respect to the middle-bezel 2. Several others openings 6 (not shown) are drilled at the periphery of the frame 2. These openings are each capable of receiving the pin 4 of the bottom 3, which makes it possible to orient the latter in different angular positions with respect to to the caseband 2.
The back 3 is held in place inside the caseband-bezel 2 by the intermediary of a threaded ring 7, engaged in a threaded part 8 of the caseband 2. This ring surrounds the caseback 3 and it clamp a flange 9 against a shoulder 10 of the middle part 2.
This bottom could be that of a waterproof box. In this case, a gasket made of elastic material, for example synthetic rubber, would be interposed between the flange 9 and the shoulder 10.
A cavity 11 is made in the face of the back 3 facing the outside of the watch, and a flat annular spring 12 is fixed to this back by means of three rivets 13. Instead of the spring 12 being riveted to the back 3, it could also be removably attached to it by screws. The spring 12 is split and its two free ends 14 are bent in a direction perpendicular to the base 3, so as to form with the cavity 11 a cup containing a ball 15 of an intermediate part 16.
The ends 14 of the spring 12 are bent so as to retain the ball 15 with greasy friction, so that this ball, once brought into a determined position relative to said cup, remains in this position thanks to said friction, and this despite the action of gravity on the watch, or even of jolts or tremors to which the intermediate piece 16 could be subjected, the watch being suspended only by the intermediary of the ball-and-socket mechanism described. The spring 12, and in particular the rivets 13, are masked by an annular cover 17, split at 18 and held in place in the ring 7.
The latter has two notches 19, diametrically opposed, in order to enable this ring to be seized using a key in order to screw it or unscrew it. An ignition key 20 of a motor vehicle is held around a drop 21 of the intermediate part 16, by a screw 22 and a ferrule 23. To insert the ignition key into the dashboard of the car, the watch is brought, with respect to this key, in the position shown in FIG. 1. Once said key is in place, the watch can be oriented as desired, thanks to the ball-joint mechanism described, so that its dial is turned towards the driver of the car, and this independently of the angular position of the key. whether the contact is open or closed.
Due to the fact that the ball joint rotates with greasy friction in its cup, the watch always remains in the same position in relation to the key, despite the vibrations of the car.
When the key is not engaged in the car dashboard, it can be folded back on the watch in the position shown in fig. 2, in order to reduce its bulk, which is then hardly greater than that of the key itself.
It will be noted that successive movements of the watch relative to the key do not run the risk of unscrewing the back 3, because of the pin 4. In addition, thanks to the latter, the back 3 can be oriented in advance. so that when the key is inserted into its normal position and the watch is moved away from the latter, so as to properly orient the dial, the midday of the latter is precisely in the upper position, without it being necessary to rotate the watch on itself.
The device described could also be used to attach a watch to a key used to engage the control station of a locomotive, for example.
Finally, the ball joint mechanism could be replaced by any joint or universal joint. This articulation could be connected to the middle part of the case, for example to the pendant, in the case of a pocket watch.
