Machine for machining bores. The present invention relates to a similar apparatus making it possible, in particular, to machine the bores: either to inflate them by knurling, if they are of too large a diameter, by printing them with triangular or other shaped grooves; either to strip them for various purposes; either to turn them to the desired diameter; either to machine key dudgeon-binding grooves; or to mortise grooves.
This device is characterized in that it comprises jaws, sliding radially in the body of the device and each carrying a working tool, and in that it further comprises a movable head which, pushed forward, under the The effect of a command moves the jaws away from the axis of the device against the action of res spells key recall, and forces against the bore to machine the tools carried by the jaws.
The movable head may be constituted by a conical or pyramidal point arranged at the end of a pressure screw, for example, or controlled by any known pressure device (hydraulic, pneumatic, res out, counterweight, etc.).
Each. jaws may have several possible locations for fixing the corresponding tool., so as to allow the machining of bores of very different diameters. Each of the jaws can slide in a groove of the body of the apparatus in the form of a T, a dovetail or the like.
The apparatus can be operated by hand or on a machine such as a lathe or the like. In the accompanying drawing, there is shown, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
In this drawing: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a partial axial sectional elevation, on a reduced scale, showing a method of mounting the movable head and a jaw in the apparatus.
Fi-. 3 is an overall view, on a reduced scale, of an apparatus intended to be mounted on a machine. .
The body 1 of the device has three branches 2 in each of which is milled a groove 3. In each of these grooves can. freely slide a jaw 4 comprising a certain number of holes 5, round or of any suitable shape, in one or the other of which is fixed, by screwing into the end of the hole, for example, an axis 6. t1 l 'free end of each axis 6 is fixed, using a screw 7, for example ,, a mo lette 8 which rotates on the axis 6.
The body 1 serves as a guide housing for a conical tip 9, serving as an expansion head for the jaws. This point 9 is mounted at the end of a screw 10 provided with a groove 11 serving, by means of small screws 12, to retain the point 9 on the. screw 10. A thrust ball 13 is arranged between the end of the screw 10 and the bottom of the housing formed in the point 9 for the end of this screw. 14 is a knurled bolt secured to screw 10 and allows the latter to be screwed into body 1.
This screwing has the effect of advancing the conical tip 9 which radially pushes the jaws 4 along their grooves 3, moving them apart from each other, against the action of return springs 15 each fixed, of on the one hand, to a retaining screw 16 on the branch 2 of the body 1 and, on the other hand, to a stop pin 17 on the jaw 4. The screwing of the. screw 10 when the knurls 8 exert sufficient pressure against the bore to be worked and the screw 10 is then immobilized using a lock nut 18.
Two pins 19, screwed into the body 1, make it possible, when they are marweuvrés by hand, to rotate and advance or reverse the device thus adjusted, in the bore to be machined.
Depending on the diameter of the bore to be machined, the pins 6 are placed in the suitable holes 5.
The jaws 4 can be shaped at their ends so that they can optionally be turned over from end to end.
The wheels 8 can be ridged or smooth; they can be replaced by cutting tools, for example for reaming, the machining of dudgeonn.age grooves, the mortai wise of grooves.
The three branches 2 of the body 1 can be replaced by a cylindrical part in which the grooves 3 alone can be milled.
The device can be used on a machine (lathe, drill or other); the pins 19 then being replaced (fig. 3) by a bracket 20 fixed to the body 1 by means of screws 21 and provided with a hollow shank 22, intended to be taken in a mandrel or a machine spindle. Into this tail penetrates a guide rod 23 integral with the knurled knob 14 of the screw 10 and serving to straighten the device in the caliper. The caliper 20 can be replaced by any other support allowing the automatic centering of the working tools in the bore to be machined.
It is possible to provide a small model apparatus in which each jaw 4 has only one hole 5.
