Machine for the distribution of sheets.
The present invention relates to a machine for the distribution of sheets, intended more particularly, but not excluded vexent, to the supply of machines for processing.
Ire in envelopes.
By sheets, it is understood not only single sheets, but also sheets folded in different ways, folded and glued (envelopes), or even made up of several previously stapled or embedded documents, folded or not.
The machine object of the invention, of type c, comprising at least m magazine intended to hold a stack of sheets, a conveyor intended to transport these sheets to a reception station, and dispensing means for transferring the sheets one by one. from said store to said conveyor, is characterized that said dispensing means comprise a mobile device. outlet arranged to ensure, when it is actuated, the extraction of part of the magazine from the magazine.
Lower sheet of the stack contained in the latter, and a drive device having at least two rotating cylinders arranged to clamp this sheet between them by its part thus released from the stack and.
to ensure, by their rotation, its drive out of the store, with a view to its deposit on said conveyor.
The appended drawing shows, diagrammatically and by way of example, one embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section thereof, in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a partial view of the machine in another operating position than that shown in FIG. 1.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are cross sections of the machine, respectively taken along lines 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5 of fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a detail view, on a larger scale.
Fig. 7 shows the electrical diagram of a safety device.
The machine for distributing sheets shown is intended to be incorporated into an envelope-inserting machine (not shown) from which it ensures the feed. It comprises a first section, shown at A in FIG. 1, in which its control members are grouped, and several identical sections such as that shown at B in FIG. 1, mounted one behind the other following this first management A and each constituting a distribution group of the machine.
(Only the first section B is shown in its entirety.)
These sections B each have at their upper part a magazine 1 intended to accommodate a stack of sheets, the machine being designed to periodically bring into a receiving station located at 2, at the right end of section A, bundles. of sheets made up of as many sheets as the machine has magazines, at the rate of a single sheet coming from each of them, intended to be put in envelopes by means, not shown, which take them up again. post 2.
These bundles are brought to the reception station 2 by an endless conveyor consisting mainly of three endless chains 3 extending, over the entire length of the machine, between drive wheels 4, integral with a transverse shaft 5. mounted rotatably between side flanges 6 of section A, and return wheels incorporated in the last section B similar to those shown at 7 in the first section B of the machine. These chains 3 have drive fingers 8 at regular intervals which pass through a longitudinal table 9 extending over the entire length of the machine, through three longitudinal slots 10 formed in this table.
These fingers 8 are intended to ensure the driving on this table 9 of the bundles of sheets transferred from the magazines 1 to the conveyor, by distributing mechanisms arranged under each of the magazines.
These distributing mechanisms, identical for each of the sections B, comprise a mobile gripping device formed by a tubular ramp 11 supported by two arms 12 pivoted at 13 on the lateral flanges 14 of the corresponding section B, and which carries four suction cups 15, in rubber for example, brought into contact with the lower sheet contained in the magazine when the device is in its upper position shown in FIG. 1, and which are intended to grip this sheet by adhesion to ensure its extraction from the magazine following a downward rotation of the assembly constituted by the arms 12 and the ramp 13 which they support.
In the embodiment shown, the suction cups 15 communicate with the interior of the ramp 11 and the latter is connected by a flexible tube 76 (see FIG. 5) to a suction pump, not shown, intended to create a vacuum in the suction cups. to increase the suction effect thereof. In a variant, these suction cups could be replaced by needles intended to penetrate into the lower sheet when the distributed sheets have a sufficient thickness.
As shown in fig. 1, 2 and 5, the magazine 1 is formed by four angle guides 16 and by intermediate guides 17 and the stack of sheets, introduced between these guides by the top of the magazine, rests on a transverse support cylinder 74 arranged at the base of the magazine and which can rotate freely in supports 75 mounted on the flanges 14. Fixed stops 18, arranged at the base of the rear guides, and adjustable elastic stops 19, arranged at the base of the anterior guides, retain, in addition,
the lower sheet of the stack by its two edges parallel to the evlindre 74. The traction exerted on said sheet in the vicinity of its front edge by the suction cups 15, during the rotation of the gripping device, first of all causes the release of this edge of the stops 19, then the extraction of the front part of the sheet following its bending on the support roller 74 (see fig. 2).
As shown in fig. 1 and 2, the supports 75 have several notches making it possible to adjust the position of the cylinder 74 under the magazine to adapt the distance between the gripping and bending points of the sheet to! a, flexural strength offered by the latter, which can vary significantly depending on the type of sheet. In the case of particularly large sized sheets, several cylinders such as cylinder 74 can be mounted to support the stack of sheets.
The rotation of the gripping device has the effect of bringing the front part of the sheet released from the magazine into contact with the periphery of a first cylinder 20 of a driving device also comprising a second cylinder 21 integral with an axis 22 rotatably mounted in bearings including. the upper ends are provided with two arms 23 pivoted on a transverse shaft 24 disposed between the two flanges 14, under the table 9 of the conveyor.
This second cylinder 21, which normally occupies a retracted position, shown in solid lines in FIG. 1, allowing the passage of the sheet towards the cylinder 20, is then brought, following the rotation of the arms 23 controlled by a mechanism described below, in an advanced position, shown in dotted lines in FIG. 1, for which the sheet then clamped between these two cylinders 20 and 21 is driven out of the magazine by the latter, during their rotation.
In this regard, it should be noted that the cylinder 20 is integral with an axis 25, also pivoted between the flanges 14, which has a pinion 26 permanently meshing with a wheel 27 driven by the pressure washer. - intermediate of angle gears 28, from a longitudinal shaft 29 which runs along the machine, and that the axis 22 of the cylinder 21 carries a pinion 30 (see fig. 4), identical to the pinion 26, and which engages with the latter when the moving cylinder 21 comes into the advanced position.
As a result, this cylinder 21, as soon as it reaches the advanced position, is driven at the same speed as the cylinder 20, but in the opposite direction, and the sheet pinched between them is driven out of the magazine, in the direction of the conveyor, in an oblique plane with respect to that of table 9.
The movement of the cylinder 21 is controlled so that it returns to its position withdrawn from the past sheet, and the dispensing mechanism comprises, in addition, a leaf 31, consisting of four parallel blades 32 integral with an axis 33 pivoted on ears 34 of the flanges 14, and intended to fold the sheet onto the conveyor, from the latter disengaged (reed from the cylinders 90 and 21.
The movements of this leaf are controlled, in a synchronized manner with those of the cylinder 21, by a rod 35 connecting a lateral arm 36 of one of the arms 23 to an auxiliary arm 37, integral with the axis 33 of the leaf, the latter being brought, because of this connection, from its lower position, shown in solid lines at the fi ,,. 1, in its upper position, shown in dotted lines in the same figure, when the cylinder 21 passes from its withdrawn position to its advanced position, and returning to its lower position by folding the sheet, when the cylinder 21 is withdrawn.
The sheet is not folded directly onto the table 9 of the conveyor, but onto a waiting plate 38 also cut with longitudinal slots intended for the passage of the drive fingers 8 of the endless chains, these fingers driving the passage of the die sheet. - placed on the waiting plate and the, sliding, by an interval 39 between the plates 38 of the different sections, on the sheets, already collected from the previous plates, which are carried in the form of bundles on the table 9 of the carrier.
As shown in detail in FIG. 6, the drive fingers 8 are pivoted on the axes of the links of the endless chains 3 and normally maintained in a perpendicular position to these chains against the support stops 40, by torsion springs AI. These fingers can, however, be folded back against the action of these springs and the slots 10, formed in the table 9, end above the drive wheels 4 of these chains, so as to automatically cause the erasure of said chains. fingers at the end of travel of the conveyor, once the bundles have been brought to the end of the table, to abandon them at this point from where they will be taken up by a mechanism not shown which will ensure their placing in an envelope.
The control mechanism of the conveyor and of the distributing mechanisms of the different sections B is grouped in section I of the machine and comprises, on a main transverse shaft 42, two cams 43 and 44 intended, the first, to control the control devices. taken by suction and, the second, the cylinder drive devices and the leaves 31 slaved to the latter.
As shown in fig. 1, the cam 43 controls the movement of the suction ramps 11 by means of a longitudinal linkage 45 connected to the free end of a lever 46 pivoted at a fixed point at 47 and which carries a roller 48 cooperating with said cam 43. This linkage extends over the entire length of the conveyor and actuates the various gripping devices via levers 49 secured to the axes of the arms 1 '? located on the side of the various magazines corresponding to the linkage 45 (see fig. 5).
The cam 44 controls the movement of the mobile eylinders 21 by means of a longitudinal linkage 50 connected to a lever 51 pivoted at a fixed point 52 and which carries a roller 53 cooperating with said cam 44. This linkage 50 is not connected directly to the arms 23 which carry the cylinders 21, but it actuates intermediate levers 54 pivot on the same transverse shafts 24 as said arms 23 and connected to the latter by elastic drive devices, a tail 55 of the arm 23 to be driven being housed between a stop screw 56 and a spring 57 carried, respectively, by lugs 58 of the intermediate lever 54.
This arrangement allows the regular clamping of the various cylinder drive devices, even if the sheets of the different loaders differ in thickness.
The endless chains 3 of the conveyor and the shaft 29 which drives the cylinders of the drive devices are also driven from the main shaft 42, the chains 3 by a chain 59 mounted on two integral wheels 60, one , of the shaft 42 and, the other, of the shaft 5, and the shaft 29, by an angle pinion gear shown at 61 in FIG. 3.
The operating cycle of the machine, from the position shown in fig. 1, is the following:
During the rotation of the shaft 42 driven in the direction of the arrow 62 by motor means not shown of the machine, the linkage 45 is first moved to the left under the action of a spring 63 and the rotates the cam 43. This movement of the linkage 45 has the effect of simultaneously bringing all the gripping devices into their lower position, driving a sheet out of each of the magazines. as shown in fig. 2.
Shortly after, the. The linkage 50 is in turn moved to the right, under the action of a spring 64 and due to the rotation of the cam 44. This movement has the effect of bringing all the cylinders 21 so multaneously into the advanced position, c 'that is to say in engagement with the sheets previously extracted from the magazines, which are then clamped between said cylinders 21 and the corresponding cylinders 20.
Simultaneously with the advancement of the cylinders 21, the leaves 31 rise and the leaves, driven at high speed between the cylinders 20 and 21, arrive under these leaves 31 which fold them down, on the corresponding waiting platforms 38, shortly after , when the linkage 50 is returned to its initial position against the action of the spring 64 due to the rotation of the cam 44. The return of the linkage 50 in its.
the initial position also causes the return to the withdrawn position of the clinches 21 and, shortly after, the rotation of the cam 44 causes the return of the suction devices to their original position, the following sheet being gripped by the suction cups and the cycle starting again during the next revolution of the cams.
Furthermore, the chains 3 of the conveyor are driven continuously from the shaft 42, at a speed such that the drive fingers 8 advance on the table 9 by a distance equal to the length of a section B for each operating cycle, these fingers thus collecting in passing, on each of the waiting trays 38, the sheet which has just been placed there, in order to drag it onto the sheets already collected from the previous trays, which they push back , in front of them, and thus bring to the reception station 2, after a number of cycles equal to. that of the loaders, a bundle made up of as many sheets as there are magazines at the rate of a single sheet coming from each of the latter.
It remains to mention safety devices arranged on each of the distributing mechanisms, namely a first electric switch 65 arranged to be opened momentarily by the sheet driven by the gripping device, and a second switch 66 arranged to be opened momentarily by an adjustable stop 67 integral with one of the arms 23 carrying the cylinder 21, when the latter reaches its normal advanced position (see fig. l.).
The switches 65 of the various distributor mechanisms are connected in circuits such as that shown in FIG. 7, or in the excitation circuit of a relay 68 whose movable armature controls a contact. 69 connected in the circuit of an indicator lamp 70, the excitation circuit of the relay including, in addition, in series with the switch 65, a contact 71 common to all the circuits of the various mechanisms, controlled by a cam 72 integral with the main shaft 42 and which is closed only momentarily, shortly after actuation of the gripping devices, at each operating cycle of the machine. If, for some reason, no sheet is fed by a gripper,
the corresponding switch 65 remains closed and the relay 68 which it controls is then energized when the contact 71. controlled by the cam is closed. The actuation of the relay 68 causes the closing of its contact 69 and the supply of the corresponding indicator lamp 70 which lights up, thus giving the alarm. The actuation of the relay 68 also causes, by a second contact 69 'of its movable armature, the establishment of a second excitation circuit of this relay which maintains the latter in the excitation position, as long as it does not. is not returned to its initial position, even when the contact 71 opens again.
An indicator light thus comes on automatically as soon as a charger is supplied. out of print, or the sheets, for one reason or another, do not normally come out of a store.
The switches 66 are connected in similar circuits, but which are controlled by a contact controlled by a second cam 73 (see fig. 3), integral with the shaft 42, which momentarily closes the contact which it controls little. after the advancing movement of the cylinders 21, at a time when the switches 66 are already open if the cylinders 21 go to their normal advanced positions, but still closed if these cylinders remain behind due to the accidental superposition of several sheets creating an extra thickness between the cylinders 20 and 21.
In the latter case, the switch 66 corresponding to the selected cylinder remains closed and the corresponding indicator light comes on and thus warns the operator of the simultaneous passage of several sheets.
It goes without saying that these safety devices could also be arranged to automatically stop the machine in the event of irregularity in operation.
Due to the use of a continuously moving endless conveyor to collect the sheets and of dispensing mechanisms which ensure the rapid transfer of the sheets from the magazines to the conveyor, the machine shown can work at a high rate and this independently. the number of sections
B mounted or in service.
In addition, top-loading magazines can be fed sheets without having to stop the machine from running.
Finally, it should be noted that the guides 16 and 17 constituting the magazines are mounted in an adjustable manner to allow the dimensions of the latter to be adapted to the formats of the sheets to be distributed, it being understood that these can be simple or folded, folded and glued (envelopes) , or even consisting of several documents previously stapled or inset. In the embodiment shown, the machine conveyor is a continuously driven endless conveyor. This form of conveyor is particularly suitable for enveloping machines in which the sheets are generally of small dimensions and which must be able to operate at a high rate.
Other embodiments are possible, comprising different types of conveyors, in particular with reciprocating motion, which could advantageously be employed when it is a question of distributing sheets of large dimensions, for example.
