Tabouret.
Stool. It is known that makeshift outdoor dining facilities are generally uncomfortable. An attempt has been made to remedy this by realizing cases that can be transformed into tables around which foldable chairs are arranged. This solution does not generally give satisfaction, because such a table is usually very small in size and, moreover, its four feet find it difficult to support the ground simultaneously. Even more uncomfortable are facilities in which diners only have seats without a table.
In order to remedy this drawback, the present invention relates to a stool intended to allow a person to read, eat or write in comfortable conditions.
The stool according to the invention is characterized by means intended to support a shelf at least in a horizontal position above the level of its seat.
In a particular embodiment, said means are constituted by two uprights arranged on either side of the seat.
In this case, the tablet is removable, which allows the occupant to sit between the tablet support posts and then, after taking a seat on the seat, to put the tablet in place. Help from a third party will usually be needed to put the tablet back in place, which is not a major inconvenience, however, especially for older people who need help anyway. for their installation. In this embodiment, however, the occupant is in a way a prisoner of his seat. Preferably, the tablet is supported by a single mon tant, the latter being able to be disposed laterally, the occupant of the stool sitting next to this post.
However, this offers the disadvantage of developing in the tablet and the amount of great bending forces requiring a robust construction and therefore quite heavy.
It is more advantageous to support the shelf by a single upright disposed under this shelf, near the center thereof, which has many advantages in terms of strength and convenience of installation of this shelf, but forces the user to agree to have his legs on either side of this amount. This inconvenience is minimal, because the clothes generally used in the conditions of installation of such a stool leave complete freedom to those who wear them to mount said stool to settle there.
In a preferred embodiment, the stool has a tripod supporting the seat and the tablet, this stool being stable regardless of the floor on which it is placed.
In a particular embodiment, the means intended to support the tablet are constituted by the extension of one of the feet of the stool, this foot being able to be vertical or oblique.
In the embodiments in which said means intended to support the tablet are constituted by one or more uprights, it is advantageous to make the connection of the uprights with the shelf so that this shelf can be dismantled from its horizontal position to be brought approximately vertically against this or these uprights to form a backrest for the seat of the stool. In this case, the user takes his place on the stool in the opposite direction to the position adopted for using the tablet.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, some embodiments of the stool forming the subject of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively the side elevational view and the plan view of a first embodiment of the stool, the tablet, on the. fig. 1, being supposed to be cut along line I-I of FIG. 2.
Fig. 3 is a partial view similar to FIG. 1, in case the tablet is used as a backrest.
Figs. 4 and 5 show respectively in elevation and in plan another embodiment of the stool.
Figs. 6 and 7 show, under the same conditions, a third embodiment. Finally, fig. 8 schematically shows in perspective an embodiment similar in broad outline to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, but intended more especially for older people.
The stool shown in Figs. 1 to 3 com takes three vertical legs 1, 2 and 3; the foot 1 is fitted into a fairly long sleeve 4 on which are fixed laterally, for example by welding, two shorter sleeves 5 and 6. In the sleeves 5 and 6 penetrates one of the curved ends of tubes 7 and 8 whose other ends, also curved, comprise sleeves 9 and 10 for the installation of the feet 2 and 3. On the tubes 7 and 8, forming a horizontal V, rests a seat 11 consisting of a plate, possibly curved, which comprises, at its lower face, elastic clamps 12 which cover the tubes 7 and 8 to maintain the latter at the appropriate spacing.
To allow easy movement of the stool, the sockets in the sleeves can be locked in any way.
In the upper part of the sleeve 4 is introduced the end of an upright 13 of the tines to support a shelf. This shelf 14 comprises, for this purpose, attached to. its lower part, a sleeve 15 which has two equal cavities 15a and 15b, arranged at right angles, allowing, as will be shown below, a double use of the tablet.
If this tablet is intended exclusively for meals, it can be made lighter and, at the same time, increase the stability of the objects that it is tinée to support, by providing openings 16 for the installation of a cup. and a plate.
In order to increase the rigidity of this shelf, it is provided with a flange 14a.
To take his meal, the user of this stool straddles the seat 11 and the upright 13 is placed between his legs.
As shown in fig. 3, the shelf 14 can also be fixed to the upright 13 by fitting the latter into the part 15b of the sleeve. For this purpose, the edge of the tablet has small notches 17 which come to rest on the upper parts of the tubes 7 and 8 in order to increase the stability of the backrest thus formed. The stool then constitutes a resting seat.
To prevent the shelf from rotating in its two positions, it is advantageous to have the upright 13 a polygonal section and to provide the housings of this upright, both in the sleeve 15 and in the sleeve 4, in the corresponding shape.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the tablet 18 is supported by a tripod consisting of a strong upright 19, preferably tubular, and by two auxiliary feet 20 and 21. In a variant, these feet 20 and 21 could be arranged at 20a and 21a., that is to say, they could start from the top of upright 19 to go to the ground. The seat 22 rests on the upright 19 to which it could be fixed in any way.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 4 and 5, the rear part of this seat can rest on a T formed by an upright 23 and a horizontal cross member 24. The cross member 24 is connected to the tube 19 in a rigid manner by means of an auxiliary cross member 25. If the seat 22 is rigid, one can say to think of such a cross.
In this embodiment, the assemblies of the different parts have not been detailed. Preferably, the various legs or uprights are small diameter steel tubes, and the tube 19 is of a sufficiently large diameter to accommodate them for transport.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the stool has three folding legs. The feet 26 are articulated, in a known manner, towards their middle, around an assembly part 27 in the form of a triangle and their upper part can fit into the neck 28 of the seat. The resting surface of this seat may be constituted by a relatively flexible wall 29, for example of canvas, perforated sheet, plywood, etc.) i fixed to said crown. On the edge of the crown 28 is provided an ear 28a for the fitting of an upright 30 supporting the shelf 31.
Preferably, the upright 30 is separable both from the tablet and from the ear.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8, the stool has two long vertical uprights 32 and a short upright 33. The seat 36 rests on cross members 34 which join the top of the upright 33 at an intermediate point of each of the uprights 32. The removable shelf 36 is fixed on the top uprights 34. The construction of this stool is similar and can easily be deduced from that of the stool shown in FIGS. 1 to 3. To use the tablet, it being removed, the user sits between the uprights 32, then the tablet is replaced.
When the tablet 36 is arranged vertically as a backrest, it is supported by its two side edges, which makes it very stable.
