Sealing device with rubber ring. The invention relates to a log processing device with. Rubber ring that is axially clamped. It was previously the opinion that a rubber ring clamped by Axialdrriek, as shown, for example, in Fig. 1 of the attached drawing in cross section, under the action of the clamping pressure bulges outwards and inwards, so a barrel-shaped cross-sectional shape. assumes, as dotted in the mentioned Fig.1 by the lines a and b. is indicated.
This would mean: that the rubber particles lying closer to the outer circumference of the ring in the direction of the arrow u in FIG. Strive outwards, while the rubber parts that are closer to the inner ring surface should move inwards in the direction of arrows b. This view ignores the fact that rubber can only be compressed to such a lesser extent that it is not at all. is able to expand in the direction of arrows b of Fig. 2, against the inner diameter of the ring.
The consequence of this is that a ring placed under axial pressure only expands outwards and all sealing measures that anticipate an inward expansion of such a ring are based on a fallacy. Conversely, the sealing seat of a ring that is loosely pushed onto a body to be sealed becomes loosened under the influence of a waking axial clamping pressure, and if the seal is defective, the seal will still leak if the tightening screws are tightened further.
Based on the above considerations, it is proposed according to the invention to push the elastic rubber ring with such a pre-tension on the outer surface of a part to be sealed that it does not stand out from this surface under the influence of an axial clamping pressure. It is therefore advantageously chosen a rubber ring whose inner diameter is considerably smaller than the diameter of the body on which. he is postponed. Of course you can also change the behavior. the outer ring surface, whereby the outer diameter of the ring can be slightly smaller than the inner diameter of a part that grips the ring on the outer surface.
The ring cross-section is expediently rectangular to square. Its cross-sectional height is preferably about 11 / _g times as large as the cross-sectional width. In addition, the edges delimiting the sealing surfaces of the ring are preferably kept sharp-edged because this gives liquids in particular no opportunity to creep. This also results in a simplification in the manufacture of the ring.
In the drawing, an embodiment example of the invention by FIGS. 3 and 4 is illustrated. It shows the Figure 3 a seal between two tubular, in mutually pushed machine parts by means of an elastic rubber ring in the longitudinal section. 4 shows the elastic ring as a detail in cross section.
In the illustrated Ausführungsbei is game. In the hole 1 of a housing wall '' a flange provided with a pipe section 3 and screwed ver by means of studs 4. On the screw-in side, the pipe section 3 has a collar 6 with a ring part delimiting an opening 5, on the end wall 7 of which an elastic ring 8 of rectangular cross-section with greater height than width and sharp-edged edges sits.
In the hole 5 a pushed through the ring 8 tube end 9 is inserted, and 'the elastic ring 8 is. axially tightly clamped by a cap 10 which surrounds it on the outside and is pushed onto the collar 6, namely dureh on extensions of the stud bolts. 4 seated nuts 11. by means of which the cap 10 is pulled onto the collar.
The elastic ring sits. under prestress on the tube 9, that is to say its inner diameter d. is smaller than the outer diameter d1 of the pipe 9. The preload is with consideration. on the dimensions of the ring and its elasticity so high ge. That its radial Diehtungsdruclk ge conditions the pipe 9 under the influence of the necessary axial clamping pressure of the screws 11 on the cap 10 does not decrease so far that the sealing point between the ring's and The pipe is leaking.
Besides that is. its outer diameter D2 is somewhat smaller than the outer diameter D1 of the radial sealing surface 7 formed by the collar ring and the practically equal inner diameter of the cap 10 is useful. the outer diameter of the ring 8 is chosen so large that when it is seated on the tube 9 with preload, it has an outer diameter almost as large as the collar 6. The outer surface of the rubber ring then arches under the influence of the axial clamping pressure outwards and thus lies tightly against the inner wall of the cap 10.
The seal is gas, liquid and vapor tight and can withstand considerable pressures.
