7 - methano - 3a,-1, 7,7a -tetrahydro- indan, Pentachlorphenol, Tetraehlornitroben- zol, Dichlor-diphenyl-triehloräthan.

Process for the manufacture of pesticides. Lately the most diverse sorts of organic substances for the extermination of insects and other pests have been proposed, which are used either alone as such or, if desired, mixed with other substances such as carriers or bait. A deficiency of many organic substances used for this purpose is that they have a fairly high vapor pressure and consequently evaporate fairly quickly.
It is clear that this weakens the effect of the killers, which must be seen as a disadvantage, since the substances are expensive.
Many compounds of this type have to be used in powder form, the disadvantage of the relatively rapid evaporation becoming even more apparent.
The purpose of the invention is to produce eradicants for the eradication of harmful organisms from which the active agents evaporate only very slowly, whereby the residual effect is considerably increased. In addition, products are manufactured that smell less badly than the previously known products.
According to the invention, finely divided, solid pesticides with long-lasting effects are produced in such a way that a liquid mixture that contains the active substance and a high molecular weight substance that is solid at room temperature and has a lower vapor pressure than the active substance , is produced, whereupon the mixture is converted in the solid state and crushed. The product obtained in this way can be diluted by mixing with carriers, also with fillers or adhesives.
Products obtained in this way have a considerably increased residual activity, while surprisingly the direct insecticidal activity is still completely satisfactory and, of course, the stronger the finer the distribution.
Another important advantage is that when malodorous compounds are used, this odor is largely removed and sometimes disappears completely. This is shown particularly clearly in the case of hexa- chlorocyclohexane (benzene hexachloride), which is very difficult to obtain odorless in other ways. The method according to the invention can be carried out in various ways. Natural and synthetic resins can be used as additives that have a lower vapor pressure than the active substance, as can various other high or macromolecular agents.
These additives are solid at room temperature and can be melted by heating. Then the insecticidal agents can be added to the molten substances, which killing agents then dissolve, after which the mixture or the solution is cooled, whereby it hardens. The -lasse can then be ground. The size of the particles does not matter, although the mass will usually be pulverized. Likewise, the killer can be melted and a substance added to form a homogeneous solution.
In this case, too, one must insist that the added substance, which need not be a killer, must have a lower vapor density than the killer treated with said substance. It is also possible to liquefy the disinfectant by dissolving it in a volatile solvent, the liquid product can then be mixed with a molten solvent, while the second substance can also be dissolved in the insecticidal solution.
In an analogous manner, a solution of the second substance in a volatile solvent could also be prepared, and the fertilizer could be added to this solution. The volatile solvent can then be driven off later. Under certain circumstances it is difficult to judge whether the killer was dissolved in the other substance or whether the other substance was dissolved in the killer. However, this is irrelevant to the essence of the invention. The essence of this is that initially a liquid is produced which, after it has cooled, provides a product in which the active agent is homogeneously distributed, e.g.
B. at least in part in the form of a solid solution. As mentioned, the products according to the invention can be manufactured in many different ways and also with very different solvents. Incompletely condensed or polymerized synthetic resins can also be used.
Good results have been achieved when using rosin maleinate resins or modified phenol-formaldehyde resins.
Depending on the nature of the insecticidal agent, substances such as e.g. B. pitch, sugar and sulfur, who used the. It has been shown that coumarone-indene resins give very satisfactory results.
Even though the invention is essentially described in terms of the use of hexachlorocyclohexane (benzene hexachloride), it is generally suitable for more or less volatile insecticides and fungicides, in particular for tetraethyl pyrophosphate, diethyl p-nitro- phenyl thiophosphate, nicotine, chlorinated camphene, 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,8-octachlor - 4,
7 - methano - 3a, -1, 7,7a-tetrahydroindane, pentachlorophenol, tetraehlornitrobenzene, dichloro-diphenyl-triehloroethane.
When using certain resins, a transparent product is obtained in which no or practically no crystals are found, although the insecticidal agent is dissolved in said resins. It is advantageously ensured that the solid solution is hard, so that it can be easily pulverized or crumbled. There is also the possibility that the solution, as long as it is still liquid, is poured over a carrier in which or over which the solution is finely distributed. This can be particularly important if the cooled molten mass is still a little tough and cannot be pulverized very well.
Fuller's earth, for example, or other earths with absorbent properties can be used as the carrier. as well as kaolin, talc, marl and similar carriers and fillers. The products manufactured according to the invention can be used both as scattering agents and as dusting agents.
Example 1: 5 parts by weight of phenol-formaldehyde resin are melted and mixed with 5 parts by weight of benzene hexachloride with a CTe content of gamma isomer of 35%.
After hardening and cooling to room temperature, the benzene hexachloride resin mixture was broken into small pieces and pulverized by grinding.
The powder was mixed with marl as a carrier and diluent material in order to achieve a preparation which contained 1.7% (weight percent) of the benzene hexachloride (with 35% gamma isomer).
The residual effect of this preparation was compared with that of a benzene hexachloride preparation, which contained the active agent in the same concentration, but only marl in addition to benzene hexachloride.
The bottom of a Petri-Sehale 12 cm in diameter was evenly thick covered with 50 mg of the preparation to be examined.
A number of Petri tubes treated in this way were kept in a dust-free room; however, the trays were not covered and the room in which they were kept was open so that the benzene hexachloride could freely evaporate. Before these experiments, the preparations were kept closed so that no evaporation occurred. After a while, 50 grain beetles (Calandria granaria) were allowed to crawl in the shell for two hours.
Thereafter, the grain beetles were taken out and placed on glass plates, cleaned of the pesticide, placed in clean dishes and kept in a constant temperature room. After 168 hours, the number of dead and dying grain beetles was determined.
The following table shows the results:

After cooling, the product was crystal clear, homogeneous and crumbly.
With this product, a practically odorless powder (spray), with a long-lasting residual effect, was herge by grinding it with 2 parts by weight of fuller's earth and then with it. 51 / f3 parts by weight of talc and 4 parts by weight of powdered emulsifier and stabilizer was mixed.

After cooling, the product was ground and mixed with 182 parts by weight of talc to form an effective disinfectant with a residual effect on lice, leaf bugs and the like.
