Process for the preparation of a fully aeylated aminodiol. In the main patent, a process for the preparation of! U-1-phenyl-2-acet-aniido-1,3-diacetoxypropane has been described. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of mi aiit.re of these completely acylated aminodiols. This process is characterized in that the! U-1-phenyl-2-dichloroacetainidopropane-1 is subjected to diacetylation in anhydrous conditions.
3-diol by means of an acetic acid derivative containing at least one CH3C0- radical, so as to attach a CHSC0- radical to each of the two hydroxyl groups, in order to obtain! U-1-phenyl- 2-dialiloroaeetamido-1,3-diacetoxypropane.
The Y-1-phenyl-2-dichloroacetamido-1,3-di-acetoxypropane thus obtained is a new substance in the form of a clear, non-colored glassy compound (racemic form).
Mention may be made, as appropriate derivatives for carrying out said diacetylation, of the halides or anhydride of acetic acid. Usually, the reaction is carried out in the presence of an alkaline substance which serves as a catalyst. As basic catalysts which can be used, mention may be made of: pyridine, quinoline, dimethylaniline, triethylamine, N-ethyl-piperidine and other compounds of the same type.
In the case where the acetic acid derivative is acetic anhydride, the use of a basic catalyst is not necessary, but if this catalyst is removed, the reaction mixture must be heated either to a temperature high, or for a period long enough to ensure the completion of the reaction. Depending on the case, the diacetylation can be completed by heating chi reaction mixture at a temperature between 60 and 130 ° C., for a period varying, from soot hour and a half to several hours.
Preferably, the racemic form (dl) of! F-1-phenyl-2-dichloroacetamido-1,3-diol is subjected to diacetylation.
The product obtained by the process according to the present patent is an intermediate product for the preparation of compounds having antibiotic activity.
Example: 3 g of dl-iY-1-phenyl-2-dichloro- a.c6tamidopropane-1,3-diol are added to a mixture consisting of 6 cms of acetic anhydride and 6 cms of dry pyridine. The mixture obtained is heated for half an hour at 100 ° C. and then evaporated to dryness in vacuum. The residue is dissolved in methanol and recrystallized to obtain dl-tl'-1-phenyl-2-dichloroacetamido -1,3-diacetox.propane in pure form.
This product is a clear, uncoloured, vitreous compound having a major ultraviolet absorption band of approx.

It can also be obtained by allowing the reaction mixture to stand at room temperature for about 24 hours. If the pyridine is removed, then the reaction mixture should be heated to reflux for 2-3 hours.
