Man verwendet somit Sirupe, Zuckerarten, besonders Invertzucker, misam- men mit Glyzerin, Diäthylenglykol, Sorbitol u. a. m.
Process for flavoring tobacco products. The invention relates to processes for flavoring tobacco products, for example cigarettes. For certain tobacco products, artificial enrichment with known fragrances or aromas is necessary or common. For this purpose, the tobacco has been mixed with the flavoring substances during the manufacturing process, for example by dipping, loading or spraying.
Companies that manufacture both a flavored and a non-flavored product had to maintain completely separate rooms and machinery for each branch of manufacture, because the highly sensitive tobacco eagerly accepts traces of the volatile, ethereal fragrances from the environment. Carrying out this separation completely in practice causes high costs and operational difficulties.
The aim of the invention is to design the aromatization process in such a way that these disadvantages are eliminated. The following facts and experiences must be taken into account Smoking tobacco has always been doused and flavored to a different extent in order to present smokers with an appealing form of tobacco with a poor character or a disruptive taste.
With oriental cigarettes of the pure Turkish or Egyptian type, it is not necessary and liner wishes to add a sufficient selection and quantity of natural and highly aromatic tobaccos with artificial fragrances. The progressive change in consumer taste has most of them In addition to the pure Orient cigarette, manufacturers have also been able to manufacture a large volume of a type of cigarette known as a KAmeriean blend.
The characteristic of this cigarette is one. Mixture of selected oriental tobaccos with at least 50 percent of tobacco of North American origin. Of the latter, depending on the special note that each manufacturer tries to give his product, light Virginia tobacco on the one hand and darker Burley and Maryland tobacco on the other hand, the intrinsically valuable and strong American tobacco with strong,
characteristic uniqueness cannot be processed at all unsossed and flavorings (flavor) are also added. Only then do you see the American blend cigarettes valued by smokers.
Tobacco is an extremely sensitive natural product, the chemical composition and flavor of which depends on the variety, the soil in which it was grown, the climatic influences to which it was exposed and the time of harvest and the care taken in subsequent manipulation is subject to strong visual fluctuations from case to case.
In order to compensate for these inadequacies, further treatment and modified soaking and flavoring are required for the factory processing of the tobacco. In addition to increasing the carbohydrate content, the main purpose of the soaking is to achieve the moisture required for adequate smoking properties. and their preservation in the packaged end product. Carbohydrates have an affinity for water and thus give tobacco a certain pliability.
This is not sufficient for processing and is increased by adding mild, hygroscopic agents. Syrups, types of sugar, especially invert sugar, mixed with glycerine, diethylene glycol, sorbitol and the like are used. a. m. This achieves a greater sweetness of the taste and the stabilization of the volatile content, which is necessary to protect the volatile aromatic substances from decomposition during storage and to dissolve and develop them during the smoking process through the water vapor produced during combustion.
The conditioning agents mentioned have a disadvantage. They are chemically reactive and their combustion products cause undesirable changes in odor. In order to compensate for this, so-called flavor is added to the sauce, i.e. fragrances or aromas of organic or inorganic origin, for example extracts from plants or drugs, solutions of essential oils, etc.
This sauce was previously communicated to the tobacco during manufacture by dipping, wetting or spraying either onto the loosened leaf or the cut tobacco. As a result, the entire manufacturing facilities were affected with the intensive aromatic substances to such an extent that it was not possible to manufacture an unflavoured tobacco product in the same rooms and facilities.
Numerous experiments have found that tobacco products can be adequately flavored by not using the known fragrances or flavors. the tobacco itself, but according to the present invention, the casings of the tobacco products are added. For example, the paper or other wrapping material used for the production and / or packaging of the tobacco products can be impregnated with the aroma substances. Layers that are impregnated with the flavoring substances can also be provided in the sleeves or packaging.
As far as the production of cigarettes is concerned, the cigarette paper tubes can be impregnated with the flavoring substances. Another expedient embodiment of the method consists in that the flavoring substances are mixed with the adhesives used to manufacture the wrappings for the tobacco products, for example the seam paste of the cigarette paper tubes.
In the following some examples for the implementation of the method are given, without thereby limiting the possibilities of implementation and application. Examples: 1. A known glue or seam paste or other binding agent for gluing the cigarette paper is used in a ratio, for example 10 to 20: 1, with. a solution of the flavorings mixed together. The adhesive must be chosen so that it behaves neutrally towards the fragrances and aromas used in order to avoid decomposition or new connections with undesirable smoke properties.
The addition of the fragrances to the binder has the success that the fragrances and aromas in the dried binder can be kept almost indefinitely without losing their intensity. When smoking, the aromatic substances are dissolved and developed in contact with the water vapor produced during the combustion process and give the smoke drawn in by the smoker a mild and pleasant aroma.
Another advantage of this rental method is that the content of flavoring can easily be standardized, which in practice means that the recipe can be easily adapted to the characteristics of the tobacco used in order to achieve a final product that always tastes the same.
In the same way, the binders for all other papers, wrappings, wrappers, etc. used for a tobacco product can be used with. Combined flavors. will. The tobacco eagerly takes on the aroma evenly during storage.
\ ?. The flavoring substance is added to your cigarette paper during the final phase of production by adding the desired amount of fragrance to the paper pulp before it is spread over the drying roller. It has proven to be sufficient to add 2 to 10 1 / o of the aromatic solution to the paper pulp, converted to 100 kg dry matter, depending on the desired intensity.
One can proceed in the same way with the materials used for wrapping or packaging of tobacco products.
3. In some cases it has proven useful to combine the methods described under 1 and 2 with one another.
In all of these cases, as he has given, aromatization of the entire production area is avoided, which cannot be avoided with the usual method of spraying or wetting the tobacco itself. While an unflavoured Oriental cigarette could not be produced in these rooms at the same time - without losing its character - this is easily possible with the processes described. The simplification and cost savings are considerable.
