Method and device for electrically cutting metal elements. The present invention relates to a method for electrically cutting cables, tubes, bars and similar metallic elements, by effect. Joule, and to a device for implementing this process.
Electrical cutting of small diameter cables can usually be accomplished without difficulty on butt welders. However, when we want to cut cables with larger diameters (greater than 4 mm), we see that the cable reddens on contact with the clamping jaws, so that the cut can be irregular.
The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks by creating a method of pure electric neck making it possible to obtain a clean cut line, without excessive heating (read cable, tube, bar or similar element, at the height of the contact jaws. , such as, in the case of a cable, the strands of the latter are united after cutting by a mass-burbot or metal bead.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that contact jaws are applied to the place where they are to be cut having a sufficient contact surface to allow the passage of current, which is passed between these jaws of contact with a high intensity current, which the jaws are brought slightly closer to each other during melting to cause a backflow of the molten metal and which is abruptly separated. from one another by pulling the two sections of the element thus cut, the metal being melted. delivered in sufficient quantity to bring together the ends of the cut sections forming a cutting weight.
The device of the invention is characterized in that it comprises two interchangeable jaws, movable axially with respect to one another, and supplied with high intensity current, each jaw having an internal housing for the reception of interchangeable half-bearings and bore adapted to the section of the element to be cut, in such a way that these bearings apply closely to this element, the dimension of the bearings being designed to provide a sufficient contact surface for the passage of currents of high intensity.
The accompanying drawings, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a contact jaw.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof.
Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of interchangeable pads used in the contact jaws.
Figs. 5 and 6 show a cable during two successive phases of its cutting.
Fig. 7 is a quick illustration of the use of a delivery sleeve.
Fig. 8 shows the device comprising two delivery sleeves. Figs. 9 and 10 show a tube during two successive phases of its sectioning.
Fig. 11 is a perspective view of a support clamp for a discharge sleeve.
Figs. 12 and 13 show. two modes of use of the cutoff weight terminating the cable section.
If we refer to fig. 1 and 2, a jaw 1, a solid block of metal or electrically conductive alloy, comprises a base 2 and a cover 3, which can turn around a hinge of axis 4. An eccentric lever 5, capable of rotating about an axis 6 housed in the base 2 and carrying a notch in the form of an eccentric ramp 7 in which is placed a transverse rod 8, integral with the cover, allows clamping by bringing the cover and the 'jaw base. This is an exemplary clamping device.
Half-shells 9 and 10 are housed in semi-cylindrical countersinks in the elements of the jaw and tighten over the entire length a cable 11, the edges of which are shown in FIG. 2 with small circles. The current is supplied. by flexible cables 12 of suitable cross section.
In fig. 3 and 4 are shown schematically the upper and lower half-bushings 9 and 10. The upper half-bush 9 (fig. 3) carries a threaded rod 13 onto which is screwed a nut 14 intended to ensure its fixing in the cover. 3 of the jaw. An axial borehole 15 allows the placement and clamping of the cable, the caliber of which must be a little greater than the diameter of the borehole 15. There is shown at 16, in dotted lines, the part of the generator cylinder of the half-bearing 9 which has been eliminated. In fig. 4, the lower half-pad 10 has been shown in the same way as a counterpart in the jaw to the upper half-pad 9.
As this lower net half pad 10 is held in place by its weight and the adhesion in the semi-cylindrical recess of the base 2, a single stud 17, which fits into a corresponding hole, drilled in the 'base (Fig. 1 and 2), prevents the lateral displacement of the half-bearing 10 during the action of the upset forces. and separation during. the maneuvers of the machine, In 18, there is shown, also in dotted lines, the second generator half-cylinder of 10 which has been eliminated. Axial drilling 15 has also been shown as for 9.
The cylindrical outer shape of the half-bearings and the identical shape of their housing in the base and the jaw cover are given by way of example, any section of polygonal shape would be suitable. as well.
Each jaw comprising two elements similar to those designated by 2 and 3, the set of half-bearings therefore comprises four half-bearings: two upper and two lower. It is easy to design a series of sets of bearings having dimensions varying from millimeter to millimeter, which will make it possible, for example, to choose one which will be suitable for a cable of determined caliber provided that the ramp 7 of the clamping lever 5 allows a yawn. cover 3 and base \? equal to or greater than 1 mm.
In fig. 5 are shown schematically, in the position of use, the jaws 19 and 20 similar to the jaw 1 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 of the cable cutting machine. The jaws are movable by a translational movement along the axis 21-22. The cable 11 engaged in the pads housed in each of the jaws is clamped. using the eccentric levers 23 and 24. On seeing a high intensity current in the jaws 19 and 20 through flexible conductors (not shown), the part of the cable 25 interposed between the jaws reddens then melts in its middle .
By then exerting a push-back and then separation force with the jaws following arrows 30 and 26, the cable is cut substantially in the middle of part 25 with the minimum of effort.
Fig. 6 represents the jaw-cable assembly at the end of the operation. The freed ends 27 and 28 of the cable carry a mass of molten metal soldering the constituent strands together and to which a hook, ring or swivel can be instantly welded at the end.
Fig. 7 shows the arrangement adopted when using a sleeve or two refractory half-sleeves surrounding the cable 17. at 29. The part of the surrounded cable being dark, a push-back force is exerted, following the arrows 30, by bringing the jaws together. 19 and 20, in order to gather the molten metal in the sleeve 29. An effort. subsequent separation according to arrows 26 allows sectioning, and the free cable (the sleeve or half-sleeves appear as shown in fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a variant of the latter process when two sleeves or four refractory half-sleeves 31 and 32 are used for cutting, the cut taking place according to section 33. The cutting maneuver is made as in the case of FIG. . 7. At the end of the cut and after releasing the sleeves or half-sleeves, the system presents the appearance of fig. 6.
Fig. 9 gives the arrangement of the tubes or bars 43 in the jaws for their severing in the intermediate part 25, between the jaws. The tube or the bar 43, clamped in the ad hoc bearings of the jaws 19 and 20 using the levers 23 and 24, is then heated by the passage of the current. The intermediate part 25 being turned red, a sustained separation force is exerted with the jaws 19 and 20 according to the arrows 26 until the rupture of the tube or of the bar which takes place in the vicinity of the middle ( the the intermediate part 25.
Fig. 10 shows the appearance of the ends released from the bar or the tube after this cutting operation: at 34 and 35 can be seen the withdrawal of the ends after this operation.
The joining of cable elements to increase their length can be explained with the aid of fig. 6.
The ends of the cable are at 27 and 28. By exerting a force, pushing back along arrows 30, the ends 27 and 28 being in contact, either as they are, or surrounded by a sleeve or half-sleeves. , not shown, the cable elements can thus be welded instantly.
Fig. 11 gives an example of a clamp 36 for holding the half-sleeve in place during sectioning or cutting operations. The clamp, whose operation is. similar to that of a clothespin, is shown open, the spring 37 tending to keep it closed and to apply the half-sleeves 38 and 39 against each other around the cable 11.
Fig. 1.2 shows a hook fixed by end welding at the end of a cable 11 cut according to the method described above, with the help of the end weight 27 which constitutes for the hook a solid fixing base.
In the same way, you can fix, instead of the hook, a ring, a swivel, a snap hook, a clevis, a threaded rod, etc.
Fig. 13 shows a cable terminal loop device. One can, in fact, thus form at the end of a cable 11, whether or not it is stranded on textile fiber, a sliding loop by end-welding a stop. (represented here by a ball 40 by way of example) retaining the end of the cable against the edge of the slide 41, which can be constituted by a ring, a sleeve, a hook, a bridle, a tourniquet, etc. If necessary, the final loop of the cable can be reinforced by a thimble 42 which, at the same time, limits its size. To form the loop or other terminal element of the cable, the metal can be supplied by autogenous welding, torch, arc welding, etc.
