Device for skinning fish. The present invention relates to an apparatus for skinning fish, characterized in that it comprises two levers able to pivot relative to one another. to the other, as well as a rotatably mounted toothed roller and a shoe, these members being capable of being brought together and away from each other and born in contact with one another, these roller and hoof. being carried by the end of at least one of the levers, all in such a way that by rotating the levers the garlic relative to the other, it causes the approximation or removal of the roller and the shoe, at least one of these levers having a handle for this purpose.
The construction of this device is specially designed to make it possible to manufacture its main parts using stamped or forged metal parts, so as to allow economical manufacture.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one form and one variant embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention.
ha fig. 1 is a perspective view of the entire apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a side view showing the apparatus in the position of use, some parts believed to be broken away for clarity of the drawing.
Fig. 3 is. an elevation view of an alternative construction of a detail.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4--4 of FIG. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
As shown, the apparatus comprises two members 12 and 14 in the form of a lever. These levers 12 and 14 are formed by stamped or stamped metal parts. The lever 12 comprises a handle 16 having in cross section a U shape, its free end being intended for. carry against the hand of the person handling the device. The handle 16 connects to a transverse portion 18 having an extension 20 directed forward. From the outer ends of the cross section 18 extending. forward two arms 22 to. roughly perpendicular to this part 18.
On the front end of the arms 22 is rotatably mounted a skinning roller 24. This roller 24 has several peripheral teeth 26 parallel to the axis of the roller. In addition, the roller 24 comprises a shaft 28 which may be integral with it or which may be constituted by an insert. One of the ends of the shaft 28 is mounted so as to be able to rotate in one of the arms 22 (see Figs. 1 and 2) and it is provided with a bearing head. against the outer surface of arm 22 to secure roller 24 in place.
The opposite end of shaft 28 is mounted for rotation into the other arm 22 and extends beyond. of the latter to allow the fixing on it of an actuating key 30. This key 30 is provided with a part 32 forming a hub fixed directly to the end of the shaft 28 outside the arm ad lie 2-2, so that when we do. turn key 30, roller 24 turns on itself.
The lever 14 comprises a handle 34 similar to the handle 16 and also having in cross section a U-shape. At the front end of the handle 34 is provided a portion 36 extending transversely. compared to this handle. This part 36 has two flats 38 and 40. In front of this part 36 extend arms whose cheeks 44 bear against the inner face of the arms 22. The cheeks 44 are joined to the arms 22 by means of rivets 46 so as to to be able to pivot relative to the arms 22.
Between the ends of the cheeks 44 extends, perpendicularly. to them, a cross member 50 forming one body with the cheeks 44. Thus, between this cross member 50 and the part 36 is left an opening 48. This cross member 50 has a curved pressure surface 52 intended to engage with the roller 24 when one rotates levers 12 and 14 to bring them to the positions shown in fig. 1 and 2. The edge of the cross member is formed by a cutting edge 54 flush with the periphery of the roller 24 when the handles 16 and 34 are in their closed position.
The rear edge of the cross member 50 is curved backwards, as shown at 56, so as to move away from the periphery of the roller 24. As seen in FIG. 2, the ends of the curved part 56 are connected to the edge 58 of flat parts 42 of the arms.
The quarter of fish to be skinned is designated by 60 (fig. 2). To use the device, the operator moves the handles 16, 36 apart, i.e. separates the surface 52 from the roller 24, then he introduces the cutting edge 54 under the skin of the fish, which can be done at one end (ie at the right end in Fig. 2) where part of the piece or quarter of fish is severed and the end of the skin is accessible. It suffices for this to engage the cutting edge 54 from a small distance under the skin of the fish, then to tighten the handles of the device.
The key 30 is then turned in the direction indicated by the arrow in FIG. 2. As it turns, the roller 24 grips the skin of the fish between it and the pressing surface 52, so that the rotation of the roller has the effect of pulling on the peeling skin as shown at 62.
It is not necessary, moreover, to introduce the cutting edge 54 at one end of the quarter, it can also be introduced through a non-notched part of the skin by cutting the latter to the rnoy by the cutting edge 54.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 represent a variant of the roll. The roller is designated here as a whole by 64 and comprises a shaft 66 constituted by a threaded rod terminated at one end by a head 68 presenting a shoulder 70. On the shaft 66 and near each of its ends is. mounted a flange 72 having trolls 74 distributed circumferentially (see FIG. 5).
The roll comprises pallets 76 having in cross section the shape of a V of which. the two arms are designated by 78. At each end of each of these arms 78 is provided a tab 80 (see fig. 5) engaging in the respective holes 74 of the corresponding flange 72. In the embodiment re shown, the edges 82 of the arms of the V that form the pallets are flush with the periphery of the flanges 72 and are serrated. The pallets 76 are constructed and arranged so that the serrated edges 82 are equidistant all around the roll 64.
After the pallets have been engaged in the flanges 72, as described above, a wing nut 84 provided with a hub 86 is screwed onto the shaft 66, so that this hub comes to bear against the adjacent flange 72. The shaft 66 is rotatably mounted in the arms 22. The wing nut 84 and the shoulder 70 tighten. the flanges 72 against the pallets 76. The flanges 72 are hand held by friction, which allows them to rotate with the shaft.
Instead of having the roller carried by the end of one of the levers and the shoe, by the end of the other lever, we could, as a variant, make the roller and the shoe carry by one of the levers. , one of these members being in a fixed position relative to this lever, while the other is. supported by this lever, so as to be able to be moved parallel to itself, this movement then being commanded by the lever, not carrying either of the two members. Thus, for example, the roller could be fixed as shown in Fig. 1, that is to say at the ends of the arms 22.
The shoe, it would present at each end a slide intended for. move in a slide secured to the end of the corresponding arm 22. A spring provided at each end of the slide would ensure, in the rest position, the separation of the shoe and the roller. The two arms of the other lever, are arranged so as to come to rest against said shoe to bring it closer to the roller.
Obviously, we could, unlike what is described above, pre-, oir a shoe. rigidly fixed to the ends of the arms of one of the levers and the mobile roller on the same ends.
It can be seen from the above that the apparatus is at the same time simple, robust and of economical construction. The levers 12 and 14 are constituted, including their arms, by stamped pieces of metal, and the roller 24 as well as its shaft and the key 30 are simply mounted on these stamped pieces forming the levers.
Most of the components constituting the roller shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are also stamped or forged parts.
