Briquet pyrophorique.
Pyrophoric lighter. The present invention relates to a pyrophoric lighter of the type using a housing containing the fuel and in which a wick protrudes. These lighters are usually provided with a filling of an absorbent material, such as cotton, by which the liquid in the lighter is. retained and conveyed to the wick. In lighters of the above type, it is necessary to have access to the interior of the lighter housing to refuel it and it is also. It is sometimes necessary to remove the absorbent padding if the wick comes out of the nièche holder tube or if a new wick has to be introduced.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a lighter which can be easily manipulated to gain access to the interior of the fuel tank, in order to meet any of the above objects, without requiring special tools or instruments, and which still make it possible to obtain a sufficient seal against the evaporation of the fluid from the lighter when the housing is closed.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the lighter according to the invention.
ha fig. 1 is a side view (some parts being. Torn away) of this lighter, the positive closing device of the housing being shown in the sealed position of the fuel tank. Fig. 2 is a view similar to the lower part of FIG. 1, but representative. the closing device in position where it unhides the fuel tank.
Fig. 3 is a plan view from below of the parts as they appear. in fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view similar to the lower part of FIG. 1 and re presenting a variant.
The lighter shown comprises a housing 1. to. fuel, of cross-section of generally oval shape, the fuel tank provided inside the housing being filled with absorbent material 2. An operating member 3, a damper 4 and a wick-holder tube 5 are shown as being mounted on the upper part of the housing, the wick holder tube enclosing the upper end of a wick 6 which descends to the absorbent material 2, but it is considered unnecessary to describe the parts in detail above of the lighter, since they can be assumed to be of any known construction,
allowing ignition of the upper end of the wick 6. A stone holder tube 7 extends downwards through the central part of the fuel tank and contains a pressure spring 8. A pressure spring can be adjusted. by means of a screw 9 which engages in a threaded sleeve 10 fixed to the lower end of the stone support tube 7. A spacer 11 extends between the stone support tube 7 and the end. lower housing unit. 12 which receives the rod of the maneuvering organ 3.
The fuel box 1 is provided with a loading opening which is normally covered and sealed by a closure plate 13, the latter being applied in the sealed closed position against the part of the box which surrounds the loading opening, but the closing plate is mounted in such a way that it can be removed by the user out of its sealed closed position shown in FIG. 1 and turned towards the position shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, in which it largely unmasks the interior of the housing 1, and allows easy access.
The lower edge 14 chi housing 1, which surrounds the loading opening., Is bevelled, as shown, to form a sharp edge and the closure plate 13 is provided with a sealing washer 15 in ma elastic tière; this washer is surrounded by the peripheral rim 16 of the closure plate and it is applied in close contact against the edge 14 of the housing 1.
The closure plate 13 has been shown as being provided with a central internal hub 17 which surrounds the stone holder tube described above. -A compression spring 18, housed inside this hub, bears by its lower end, against an annular edge 19 provided on the sleeve 10 and by its upper part, against a sealing washer 20, in elastic material, this washer 20 in turn bearing against the upper end wall of hub 17.
This method of construction allows the sliding and rotary mounting of the closure plate on the stone holder tube (the sealing washer 20 ensuring the sealing of the joint) and limits the stroke of which. it is possible to remove the closing plate from the fuel box. Thus, in the position shown in FIG. 1, the spring 18 applies the closure plate 13 in the sealed closed position against the housing 1, but the user can grip the closure plate between his fingers and move it outwardly out of its. sealing position against the opposing pressure of the spring 18, after which it can turn the.
closure plate up to the transverse position with respect to the housing, which position is shown in fig. 2 and 3. Then, the user can release the closure plate which is immobilized in the open position thanks to the spring 18.
In this position, the fuel tank, located in the housing 1, is largely unmasked, which simplifies the operation of filling the fuel tank and makes it easier for the Fusager to get together. account whether the correct amount of fuel has been added and absorbed by the absorbent material in the different areas of the fuel tank. In addition, this largely unmasked opening position greatly facilitates the extraction of the absorbent material from the reservoir.
fuel and proper replenishment of the reservoir with such material, and, if necessary, adjustment or replacement of the wick. To bring the. closure plate to the sealed shut-off position, it suffices to turn it until it is in alignment with the housing 1 and then release it until the spring 18 applies both parts in contact. waterproof. Access to the stone holder tube 7 for replacing a stone can take place at. at the same time by removing screw 9 without having to move the closure plate.
In the variant of FIG. 4, the sleeve 10a of the stone holder tube is provided with an annular edge 19a spaced internally from the lower wall of the box, so as to leave an annular space between this edge and the adjusting screw 9a of the stone, surrounded space by the hub 17a. and in which a number of spare stones can be kept 21.
Of course, the hub 17a, the spring 18c and the neoprene washer 20a of FIG. 4, as well as the parts without reference numbers, which are there, fulfill the same role as the parts of FIGS. 1 to 3 with corresponding references.
