Process for the production of a polyamide. is the subject of the main patent. the manufacture of an infusible polyamide, which is characterized in that endomethylene caprolactam is heated to temperatures of 180 to 300C.
It has now been found that a polyamide with equally valuable properties can be obtained if, according to the invention (read endoäthyleneaprolactam of the formula I, it is heated to temperatures of 180 to 300.degree.
EMI0001.0006
The encläthy lencaprolactam belongs to the class of bieyeliselien lactams. It is. obtainable from bicyelooetanone oxime by Beckmann rearrangement.
For the purpose of polymerization, the Laetam can be heated to 180 to 300 C for some time in a pressure vessel or, more advantageously, in the presence of a reaction accelerator, e.g. water, and then left at the same temperature for 6 to 8 hours while releasing the pressure, until no more volatile components escape.
The Polymerisat.ion can also be carried out in the presence of a solvent, for example a phenol or cresol. The polymer is obtained, if appropriate after evaporation of the solvent or after the addition of a precipitant (if the solvent has not already been distilled off in the course of the reaction) as a colorless powder which is characterized by unusual heat resistance. The polyamide produced according to the invention remains unchanged up to 400 ° C. and only decomposes above 4 ° C.
Undoubtedly, this excellent heat resistance of the new polyamide is based on the special chemical structure of this substance, which is expressed by the formula (II).

Compared to the. Polyamides known to date, the polyamide with the structural formula (1I) shows significantly improved light resistance and higher water absorption. The sensitivity of the substance -gen oxygen is lower than, for example, poly-s-caprolactam (Perlon) or polymeric hexamethylenediammonium adipate (Ny lon), which makes handling at higher temperatures much easier.
The poly amide produced according to the invention can be mixed with other linear condensates, for example with other polyamides, polyesters and poly carbamic acid esters. As I said, it is unmixed and unsealable. However, it can be spun from the solution or poured out into films. Some special poly amide solvents are suitable as solvents, such as. B.
Formic acid, phenols, iresols, yylenols, formamide, dimethylformamide, and also a number of laetons, laetones and nitriles.
Example: 80 parts of Endoäthylencaprolaetani the formula (1) are heated with 20 parts of water in an autoclave with exclusion of oxygen for 2 hours at 80 to 285 ° C.
The pressure is then slowly released over the course of an hour and polymerized at 260 to 265 ° C. for a further 8 hours. After opening the autoclave, the polymeric indoethy leneaprolaetam is obtained as a yellowish powder, which melts at 400 ° C. and between 450 and 500 ° C., decomposes with a brown color.
