Description
Process for the production of tall oil. During the production of cellulose by alkaline wood pulp, a foam separates on the surface of the black liquor that is produced, which consists of the saltable sodium salts of the fats and resins contained in the wood and is obtained in a suitable manner. The fatty acids are obtained by treating the soaps with acid in the heat and these represent what is known as tall oil in trade. When the sulphate soap is broken down, impurities such as fibers are present.
Remnants of the lignin substances in the black liquor and also the sludge that is formed during the acidification process are unpleasantly noticeable. Apart from the slow separation, these impurities carry relatively large amounts of tall oil with them and hold it very firmly, so that only low yields of fatty acids are obtained. In addition, the fatty acids obtained are usually contaminated to such an extent that they require aftertreatment. The extraction of tall oil is simplified and made more economical if suitable measures are taken to accelerate the settling of the impurities and to keep the fatty acids firmly. prevented by them.
According to the invention, the desired effect is achieved by adding salts which are soluble in water and the acids but insoluble in tall oil, at the latest when the soap is broken down with acids, to facilitate the separation of the impurities. As a result, the specific gravity of the impurities, such as fibers, sludge, etc., can be increased, whereby the trapped tall oil is displaced. Most of these salts have a dehydrating effect at the same time and in this way cause the tall oil to be purified from the water it has absorbed and accelerate the separation.
The effect could be further improved and the time required for implementation reduced if finely divided air or other finely divided gases are forced through the mass before, during or after the addition of the acid. This makes it easier to separate the impurities with the specifically heavy solution of the salts.
If carbonic acid is passed through before acidification, leaching can be found with small amounts of mineral acid. After removing the lower lye and the Sehlam mes, the tall oil obtained can be subjected to further treatment in the same apparatus or an oxidation, which takes place particularly quickly if small amounts of oxygen carriers are added and air is passed through in the heat. Examples: 1. 1000 kg tall soap are heated with 1.00 kg water and, if necessary, carbonic acid is blown through, whereupon 150 kg sodium sulfate are slowly added.
While air is passed through at the same time, the required amount of sulfuric acid is allowed to run in slowly. The stirring or the passage of air is continued for some time, after which the insulated boiler is left to rest in the warmth. In this way, about 600 kg of fatty acids are obtained, which are clear, brownish-clear in nature and do not require any further treatment. A coarse-grained sludge is deposited under the fatty acids, which contains the fibers and other impurities. The bottom layer is a concentrated or supersaturated sodium sulfate solution. The sludge can be used for other purposes, while the sodium sulphate is either used in the circuit or can be used for sodium or sulphate pulp production.
2. 1,000 kg of tall soap are heated with 50 kg of water and 120 kg of sodium chloride are introduced, which is then slowly acidified with hydrochloric acid. After the soap has broken down, air is slowly blown through it for a while and then left to Rulie. The result is. similar to example 1.
3. 1,000 kg tall soap and 150 kg Na_SO are heated with 100 kg water and sulphurous acid-containing glasses from sulphite cellulose production are blown through together with air, after which it is finally acidified with sulfuric acid. Eat continues to be led through for a while and then left to rest. The fatty acids obtained in this way are somewhat lighter than those obtained in Example 1 and.
