Device allowing the direct reading of dates relating to the application of the principles of the Ogino-Knauss theory. Currently, when a doctor has to advise his clients on the application of the Ogino-Knauss theory, either with a view to giving maximum chances of conception, or to reduce them to the extent of. possible, if health reasons make this measure necessary, he is obliged, after having established the periodicity of the female rules, to engage in a calculation to determine the so-called periods of fertility and sterility.
The object of the present invention is a device intended to avoid this work and to allow, by simple means, the direct reading of the dates relating to the application of the aforementioned theory.
This device comprises, like other known devices of this type, at least three movable elements facing each other. It differs from known devices by the fact that one of said elements comprises a calendar division for the days of all the months of a year, including leap years,
the second element comprising a numbered division corresponding to that of the calendar and embracing a period corresponding to the maximum periodicity allowed and the third element comprising a division corresponding to that of the other two and on which are reported the so-called fertility and sterility periods between two successive rules from the day of appearance of the rules to come, the arrangement of the months of the year on the calendar being such that the second and third elements can be placed next to a period corresponding to the periodicity on the calendar of the first element, this device allowing the reading on the calendar of dates corresponding to the so-called periods of fertility and sterility,
if we place the first division of the second element next to the graduation of the calendar corresponding to the day of onset of the rules and the division of the third element, corresponding to the end of a given period, next to the number of the division of the second element, corresponding to the number of days in the given period.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, some embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view of a first embodiment, in the form of a rectilinear slide rule.
Fig. 2 shows an alternative embodiment thereof.
Figs. 3 and 4 show two embodiments, in the form of circular slide rules.
In the form shown in FIG. 1, the calendar, laid out on part 1 of the slide rule, comprises seven juxtaposed horizontal divisions, ie: a division has for two months to 31 days, that is to say for July and December; a division b for the 30-day months followed by a 31-day month, that is to say for April, June, September, November; a division c for 31-day months followed by a 30-day month, that is, March, May, August, October; a division d for the month of February of a leap year; a division e for the month of February of a normal year; a division f for the month of January of a leap year; a division g for the month of January of a normal year.
The figures, as well as the lines of the calendar division, are advantageously of different colors for the consecutive months. One can, for example, provide part A in red, part B in black and part C in blue.
If different colors are not used, different characters may be used for at least two successive divisions.
Opposite the calendar division is provided a rule 2 carrying a division corresponding to that of the calendar and em mixing a period corresponding to the maximum female periodicity allowed.
Practice has shown that this periodicity of the reappearance of the rules follows for each individual a regular cycle varying normally between 28 and 41 days.
According to the Ogino-Knauss theory, the reappearance of the rules is preceded by a period called fixed sterility and a period called fertility to which is added a period called variable sterility.
It has been shown that the so-called fixed sterility period preceding the reappearance of menstruation is 11 days, the so-called fertility period being at least 2 days, preceded by a so-called variable sterility period of at least 8 days. .
The slide rule also comprises a second rule 3 provided with a division corresponding to that of the calendar and on which are deferred, in the opposite direction to the graduation of the rule 2, the periods D called fixed sterility, E called fertility and F called variable sterility, from day X of the reappearance of the rules. The Y division, preceding the X division of period recurrence, indicates the end of the female periodicity cycle.
It has been shown that the onset of menstruation is preceded by a fixed period of three days of female tension which is indicated by a sign G on ruler 3 and that it is also followed by a variable period known as tension. female, which is indicated by an H sign on ruler 2.
Division E of the so-called fertile period may also contain information about the period of ovulation and the possible survival of sperm present in the body before the onset of ovulation.
The doctor therefore finds, on this device, all the indications which may be useful for him to give precise instructions to a client.
In the example shown in the drawing, the division E comprises, at the beginning and at the end, a so-called security division, to take account of the uncertainty as to the exact date of appearance of the rules, when they occur. demonstrate overnight.
The beginning division is followed, in its first three divisions, by a sign indicating the possible survival time of the sperma tozoids, the following divisions having a sign to indicate the period of ovulation.
The calculation by means of the device described is carried out as follows, admitting both, for example, a fixed period of 32 days and as the day of onset of menstruation on February 16 of a leap year: For a periodicity of 32 days, the rules therefore appear on the 33rd day.
Slide 2 is moved until division 1 is opposite division 16 of part A of the calendar.
We then move the rule 3 opposite the rule 2 until its Y division is under the division <c32 of the rule 2. The X division then indicates the day of reappearance of the next rules.
The following dates can then be read directly on the horizontal divi sion d of the calendar:
EMI0003.0003
<SEP> period called <SEP> fruitful <SEP> from <SEP> 28 <SEP> February <SEP> to <SEP> 8 <SEP> March
<tb> rule <SEP> to <SEP> coming <SEP> 19 <SEP> March
<tb> sterile <SEP> period <SEP> <SEP> from <SEP> 9 <SEP> to <SEP> 17 <SEP> March
<tb> period <SEP> called <SEP> of <SEP> female <SEP> voltage <SEP> following <SEP> the <SEP> rules <SEP> from <SEP> 27 <SEP> to <SEP> 29 <SEP> February
<tb> <SEP> period called <SEP> of <SEP> female <SEP> tension <SEP> preceding <SEP> the <SEP> rules <SEP> to
<tb> coming <SEP> from <SEP> 15 <SEP> to <SEP> 17 <SEP> March.
In the variant embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the rule 3 is replaced by a cursor 4 moving on the body 1 of the rule, as in ordinary slide rules.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the graduations described with reference to FIG. 1, for the calendar and for the two strips 2 and 3, are arranged on discs, respectively 5 for the calendar, 6 for the division corresponding to the maximum periodicity and 7 for the divisions comprising the so-called fertility and sterility periods. These discs pivot on a common axis 15.
The same reference signs refer to the parts corresponding to those described with reference to FIG. 1.
In this case, the disc 6 carries an index 8 to indicate the start of the graduation that it carries and the disc 7 has an opening 9 cut out above the graduation of the disc 6 and corresponding to the division Y. C ' is this window which will be positioned on the number <B> 42 </B> for the calculation given as an example with reference to the first execution form. The division X then carries an index 10 indicating, in the division of the calendar, the day on which the rules reappear.
The disc 6 is provided with a handle 14 making it possible to maneuver it and also to immobilize it on the disc 5 during the maneuvering of the disc 7.
This disc 7 also has an opening 11 corresponding to the so-called fertility period.
To make the sector corresponding to the so-called fertility period more easily visible on the calendar, the disc 7 is solid with a sector 12 of transparent material at the same angle as the division E.
The calculation is carried out in exactly the same way as described with reference to FIG. 1, by moving the discs 5, 6 and 7 with respect to each other, instead of the rulers 2 and 3 with respect to the body 1 of the rule.
To read the dates sought for a given case, we place the index 8 of disc 6 next to the graduation of the calendar corresponding to the day of onset of menstruation and window 9 of disc 7 on the number of the graduation of the disc 6 corresponding to the given periodicity. The index 10 then gives on the graduation of the calendar the day of appearance of the next menstruation.
In the example of FIG. 4, the months of the year are arranged in a spiral, on the face of the disc 5. The discs 6 and 7 are arranged in the same way as in the previous form.
In this embodiment, the readings are made on the divisions of the spiral in the same way as in the example described with reference to the first embodiment.
It is clear that the arrangement of the elements described in the examples above, as well as the shape of these elements, may differ from that described in the examples above and shown in the drawing, without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, for example, the strip 3 or the discs 7 could only bear part of the divisions described.
In the embodiments shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, it is easy to provide a device making it possible to take account of a variable female periodicity.
This device consists of an index 16, consisting of a pivoting radial arm and which is normally integral with the sector 1.2, but can be released therefrom, so as to remain in a given position, when the sector is moving.
The operation of this device is as follows, admitting, for example, a variable periodicity between 28 and 32 days and as the day of onset of the rules on May 8: We place the index 8 of disc 6 opposite the division of the calendar showing May 8th. We then place the window 9 of the disk 7 on the number 28 of the graduation of the disk 6.
The so-called fertility period for the 28-day female periodicity begins on May 16. We then release the index 16 of the sector 12 to leave it in the position marking May 16, and we move the disc 7 until its window 9 is on the number 32 of the scale of the disc 6.
We see that for a periodicity of 32 days, the so-called fertility period ends on May 29.
For a variable periodicity of 28 to 32 days from May 8, the possible fertility period therefore extends between May 16 indicated by the index 16 and May 29 indicated by sector 12.
It is clear that a corresponding device can also be provided in the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, and even on that shown in FIG. 2. In the latter embodiment cited, the cursor could be combined with an index with which it would normally be attached, but which could be released, in order to indicate on the calendar one of the limits of the so-called period. fertility.
