(Inventors: Jules Gressel and Paul Gressel). The subject of the invention is a mechanism for controlling the movement of the jaws of the gripper in a rectilinear combing machine, in particular a Heilmann type combing machine, used for combing filamentous materials, such as cotton, wool, tow, etc.
It is known that the control of the lower jaw of the clamp, and in certain cases also that of the upper jaw, is generally carried out using an articulated lever actuated by a roller which cooperates with a cam. The contact. permanent between the roller and the cam is maintained by a res sort working either in traction or in torsion. Since the amplitude of the movements of the elements considered is. large enough, the spring undergoes considerable stresses which are out of proportion to the goal actually sought, namely to maintain it (the contact between the roller and the cam, and (it, therefore, cause excessive fatigue of the spring as well as -exaggerated wear of the roller and the cam.
In the mechanism according to the invention, which overcomes the aforementioned drawback, a roller lever controlling the movement of at least one of the jaws is kept in contact with a cam by a fixed spring, by the one of its ends, to the roller lever and, by the other end, to a movable attachment member which is driven, by means of a positive command, in a catch-up movement. partially the movement of the control roller and its lever, so that the work of the spring. be reduced to a minimum.
In a preferred embodiment of this mechanism, the positive control of the attachment or gane can be achieved with the aid of a cam.
In another embodiment of this mechanism, the same cam can control both the control roller and the fastening member.
In another embodiment of this mechanism, the same spring. can be used to press the drive roller as well as the fastener against respective cam surfaces.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the control mechanism forming the subject of the invention.
The end-. 1 is a schematic side elevational view of a first embodiment comprising a tension spring, the clamp being assumed to be in the open position.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding front view.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1, corresponding to the closed position of the clamp, and fig. 4 is a schematic plan view of a second embodiment comprising a torsionally operating spring.
In fig. 1 to 3 representing a mechanism for controlling the jaws of the clamp, and comprising a tension spring, 1 dice sign the upper jaw and 2 the lower jaw of the clamp intended for. cooperate with the circular comb 3.
The upper jaw 1 is integral with a lever 1b which can pivot around an axis 5.
The lower jaw 2 is integral with a lever 4 which can pivot about the axis 5 and which is articulated at 6 on a rod 7. This rod is integral, at its lower part, with a yoke 7a which is articulated in 7b on a lever 8 which can pivot about an axis 9. The front end of the lever 8 carries a roller. 10, the shaft 101 of which engages with a flat in a slide 10b, where its position can be adjusted using an adjusting screw 11.
The roller 10 cooperates with a cam 12 wedged on a control shaft 13 and, on the one hand, the lever 8 controls the lower jaw by means of the articulation piece 7a pivoted at 7b, of the adjustable rod 7 and of the journal 6 of which it is integral and, on the other hand, the same said lever 8 with roller 10 controls the upper jaw by means of a part 8a wedged on the axis 9, integral with the lever 8, and a link 8b on which the end of the lever 1b is pivoted.
A lever 14, which can pivot about an axis 15, carries at its front end a roller 16 which also cooperates. with cam 12.
A tension spring 17 is, on the one hand, attached to the lever 8 and, on the other hand, made integral with the lever 14 by means of a part 18, making it possible to adjust the tension of the spring 17, and which is supported on lever 14.
The mechanism described works as follows: If we assume the clamp open (fig. 1), the .galet 10 is in contact with the region E of the cam 12 where the latter has its smallest diameter, in such a way that the lower jaw 2 of the gripper occupies its highest position where it is located away from the circular comb 3. At the same time, by the play of its operating mechanism, the upper jaw 1 also occupies its highest position , the relative positions of the two jaws 1 and 2 being such that the clamp formed by them is open.
At this stage of the operation, the roller 16 bears on the part D of the cam 12 where the diameter of the latter is maximum, such that the fastening member 18 of the spring. 17 occupies its lowest position.
After introducing the portion of web to be combed into the clamp, the latter performs its next closing movement. which it approaches at the same time the circular comb 3. The movement of the lower jaw 2 is controlled by the rotation of the cam 12 in the direction of the arrow to present first the region A and then the region D under the roller 10 so as to lift the latter. The lifting of the roller 10 rotates the lever 4 so as to approach the jaw 2 of the waxed comb 3. At the same time, the upper jaw 1 is ashen under the action of its control mechanism so as to close the clamp on the tablecloth.
The pivoting movement of the lever 8 caused by the cooperation of the roller 10 with the cam 12 strains the spring 17. However, this tension of the spring 17 is limited by the simultaneous pivoting movement of the lever 14. In fact, while the part D of the cam 12 is presented under the roller 10, the part B comes opposite the roller 16, so that the lever 14 performs, under the influence of the spring 17, a pivoting movement having the effect of an upward movement of the attachment member 18 partially catching up with the upward movement of the upper attachment point of the spring 17 on the lever 8. In this way, the spring 17 is guaranteed against any excessive tension, despite the large amplitude of the movement. roller 10.
The closed position of the clamp is shown in fig. 3. It can be seen that the roller 10 cooperates with the part D of the cam 12, the part B of which is at this moment opposite the roller 16, so that the relative positions of the rocking levers 8 and 14 vary comparatively little. . The clamp consisting of the jaws 1 and 2 is. closed and. approach the circular comb 3.
Fig. 4 shows in plan an embodiment comprising a torsion spring. A lever 19, corresponding to the lever 8 of FIGS. 1 to 3, is journaled on a pin 22 by its hub 21. This lever carries at its front end a pin 24 on which a roller is journaled. 23 cooperating with a cam 25. This cam is fixed on a rotary shaft 26 which carries a second cam 29 cooperating with a roller 28 which is journalled on a lever 27 which can pivot around the axis 22 by its hub 30.
The lever 19 attacks, with the aid of a connecting rod 20 corresponding to the rod 7 of the mechanism of the fi .. 1 to 3, a control device of the lower jaw of the clamp corresponding to the elements 4, 5, 6 of the fig. 1 to 3.
A spiral spring 31 is wound around the axis 22. The end 31a of this spring is integral with the lever 19, while the other end 31 "is fixed to the hub 30 of the lever 27. The spring 31 applies the rollers 23 and 28 against their respective cams The cams 25 and 29 are arranged such that, when the lever 19 performs a pivoting movement about the axis 22 under the action of the roller 23 cooperating with the cam 25, the lever 27 performs a tilting movement in the same direction thanks to the cooperation of the roller 28 with the cam 29.
In this way, the torsion of the spring 31 caused by the movement of its end 31a as a result of the pivoting of the lever 19 is partly offset by the movement of the end 31 '' due to the tilting movement of the lever. 27. Thus, the torsion of the spring can be limited to a value excluding any excessive fatigue thereof.
