Mechanical hearth. The object of the present invention is a mechanical hearth: with fuel projection, in which the fuel is mechanically projected onto an endless chain grid. Mechanical fireplaces of this kind are known.
Such a combustion apparatus, when operating under ideal conditions, is advantageous in that, by supplying fuel in a substantially uniform manner to the combustion zone of the grate, with an appropriate speed (the operation of that - Here, the combustion of the fuel thus distributed occurs on a layer of ash as soon as such a layer is formed:
the required firebox speed is thus reached with a moderate release of heat on the face of the grate, in the combustion zone and in the 1 corresponding parts of the firebox. The layer of ash not only separates the grate. ignited fuel, but protects it against heat radiation from the fireplace. The grate which is subjected to the passage of the combustion air is, therefore, kept at a low temperature.
In practice, however, the nature of the fuel to be burned varies widely, due to its composition, size and. of the percent of particles of various sizes and, if the fuel has a low ash content or contains a high proportion of fines which are burnt in a suspended state, parts of the. grate, particularly in the initial part of its path in the hearth, may not be covered or insufficiently covered by the fuel and / or ash and be deteriorated due to the radiation which occurs inside the hearth.
The fireplace according to the invention makes it possible to remedy this. disadvantage.
It is characterized in that the hearth is provided with means suitable for depositing on the upper strand of the chain -grid animated with a movement from rear to front, under the projected fuel. a layer of material permeable to air forming a screen against the radiation from the hearth.
The invention will now be described with reference to the partially corrugated drawing. schematic, which represents, as an example, two forms of eeueution of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through the lower part of a water tube boiler furnace showing the spray loading combustion apparatus with endless chain.
Fig. ? is a view, on a larger scale, showing the lower part of the rear hopper and its adjoining parts.
The fi-. 3 is a view similar to FIG. representing a variant (the realization chi splitter device.
Referring to Figs. 1 and?, The hearth 1. is lit on the front by a number of openings spaced across its width and located in the front wall? The cut is made through one of these openings 3. In front of each opening is installed a feeder 4 mechanically projecting the fuel particles onto the hearth.
The feed apparatus 4 is of known construction. It comprises a hopper 5 receiving the charcoal suitably sized for feeding the furnace, under which is disposed a horizontal fuel distribution plate 6 which receives the charcoal from the hopper. A pusher 7, for the fuel, is slidably mounted on the upper part of the distribution plate 6 and is driven by a reciprocating movement, by a device not shown, in the front and rear directions. In its rearward stroke, it pushes the carbon to the rear 8 of the evening distribution plate which has a rotary projection device 9.
This rotary device has its axis arranged transversely with respect to the hearth and it is provided with diametrically opposed blades, adapted in their rotational movement to project into the hearth, through the opening 3, the coal coming from the rear side of the plate. say tribution. This plate can be set in a position maintained between limit positions in the forward and reverse directions, in order to control the point where the fuel supplied by the pusher falls from the edge of the plate, whereby the trajectory of the projected coal in the interior of the fireplace may be variable or be corrected appropriately.
The hearth sole is. constituted by an endless chain 10 formed by the same number of grid sections as there are openings 3 arranged side by side through the hearth. Each grate section is made up of two endless chains carrying transverse grate bars 17 (fig. 2) with rows of small nozzles 12, in the form of nozzles, intended for the passage of combustion air from below the chamber. grid towards its upper part.
Each endless chain (the. Grid passes over it control pinion 13, in front of and below the front wall 14, forming the lowest end of the front walls 2 of the fireplace and on a. Idler pinion 15, arranged behind and below the rear wall 16, forming the lowermost end of the rear wall 17 of the water-cooled fireplace.
The grille is controlled by the gears 13, so that the upper stroke of the grille is from the rear to the front of the fireplace. Below the front end of the grate 10, an ash hopper 18 is provided to receive the ash falling from the grate. Ramps 19 and 20, at the front. and at the rear respectively, help to support the grid in its lower course.
The rear wall 17 of the fireplace is cooled by a row of steam generator tubes 21 which conform to the shape of the wall 16 and which receive water from the transverse collector 22 arranged at. rear and fed by downpipes 23. Between the more rear parts of the wall and the collector, the tubes 21 extend horizontally and each.
spaces between them above the grid is closed, over one area, by a front plate 24 and, in an area placed at the rear, by a back plate 25, the front and rear plates are bolted to irons U 26 and 27 extending transversely, spaced apart from each other, and to which is. fixed the lower end of a hopper 28 extending transversely. Bolted to the underside of each of the front plates 24 is a distribution block 29 having a downwardly directed distribution projection 30 located in the front of the block.
The distribution blocks 29 can be individual relative to the front block 24 or they can extend laterally over a number of front blocks or they can be replaced by a single extending distribution block. across the entire width of the fireplace.
A suitable breathable material is supplied in divided form to the hopper 28 and falls through the space between the irons U 26 and 27 and through the openings formed by the neighboring plates 24 and \ 35 and the neighboring tube 21, then it is discharged onto the grid. The grid, during its movement, carries this material forward into the hearth, the thickness of the layer 32 of this material being reduced by the distance between the distribution projection 30 of the block (the distribution and the surface of the underlying grid.
A closed hopper 31 is provided at the bottom of the chain clans which combustion air to feed the grate in the hearth is admitted, with adjustment by register. The passage of this combustion air is limited at the front and at the rear of the grate by an element 33 called a trough-shaped shutter plate, filled with sand, normally provided in a zone located below the grate. front wall 14, and by another similar element 34 placed below the rear wall 16. A sealing device (not shown) further opposes the passage of air out of the grille into the chamber. lateral direction, between the two closure plates 33 and. 34.
During the operation of the hearth, the good tank, brought by the reciprocating pusher 7 above the rear edge 8 of the distribution plate, is thrown into the hearth by the vanes of the rotary device 9 through the opening 3. Many of this coal falls on the fuel bed from said vicinity of the front end to. the rear end of the grate being in the hearth and it is burnt.
Some of these particles (the charcoal burns in the suspension above this bed, while those which remain and are entrained by the stream of fumes can be recovered at least partially in the state of impurities or dust in the (the gathering areas placed below the flue gas direction change areas by means of centrifugal separators or other types of dust collectors through which the combustion gases can pass.
The nature of said material distributed on the grid from the hopper 28 and the thickness of the layer 32 of this material brought into the hearth on the grid are such as to ensure protection of the g </ U> ril against the radiance said hearth, despite the conditions which could occur if the fuel supplied by hopper 5 had a low ash content or contained a high proportion of fines, entrained by the combustion gases.
The layer of material 32 also separates the grate from the igniting fuel and tends to distribute evenly in the fuel bed the air passing through the nozzles 12 of the bars of the grates.
The material of the hopper 28 may contain dust recovered from the combustion gases or consist of these dusts, in which case the combustible parts of these dusts may burn on the. wire rack. The dust is suitably transported to the hopper 28, by means of an air stream serving as a vehicle; the dust separates from this air stream in a centrifugal separator from where it can fall into the hopper 28.
The material supplied to the. Hopper 28 may also consist of a suitable non-combustible refractory material in the divided state. It may consist of material in a divided state produced by the combustion of solid fuel.
Instead of dust or suitable incombustible refractory material in the divided state, it may be advantageous in certain cases or in certain circumstances, such as for example when starting up the boiler, to load the hopper 28 with a combustible carbonaceous material other than dust. The hopper 28 may, if desired, be replaced by several hoppers distributed along the width of the hearth, one or more hoppers being assigned to each grid section.
The distribution blocks 29 can be replaced by blocks making it possible to achieve different distances between the distribution projections 30 and the surface of the grid, when it is desired to reduce or increase the thickness of the layer of materials supplied by the grill in the fireplace.
Referring to fig. 3 shows a construction variant of a re-partitioning device which allows a modification in the thickness of the material, without it being necessary to replace one organ by another. The same parts are given the same reference numbers as in fig. 2. According to this embodiment, the distribution device comprises a longitudinal squeegee 40 projecting and fixed on a rotary axis 41_ extending transversely and parallel to the surface of the grid and rotating in tabs 42 formed on plates 43 , continued to. front block 24, clamped with tubes 21.
The rotation of the axis 41 varies the distance between the protruding edge of the squeegee 40 and the surface of the grid and, consequently, it varies the thickness of the layer of material 32.
The presence of the layer of material 32 intended to form a protective screen for the grid against the radiation of the hearth makes it possible to operate with the supply device 4 supplying the fuel, in such a way that the latter cannot reach dre a rear part of the upper run of the grate inside the fireplace. It is then possible either to supply this rear part of the grid with fuel from the hopper 28, or to suppress the supply of combustion air to the grid at this location by means, for example, of an adjustable closure plate.
