Apparatus for the manufacture of coated materials. The present invention relates to an apparatus for the manufacture of coated materials.
It is known that, for the coating of pavements, coated materials are used, such as tarmacadam and bituminous concrete, for example, which are suitably proportioned mixtures of stone and tar or bitumen.
We know, moreover, that said mixtures can be made, either hot, by rendering liquid by a preliminary heating the binders which are incorporated in the stone which has also been brought to. a suitable temperature, either cold, in which case special binders are used, of the emulsion type, which are fluid at room temperature and which are. incorporated into the stone, itself at room temperature.
The cold embedding process comprises two operations carried out successively, namely: a pre-embedding, which is a kind of preparation of the stone with a special binder, and the embedding itself, intended for the finishing of the coated material and which is also carried out using another suitable binder.
For cold coating, equipment of the concrete mixer type has hitherto been used which requires, in the case of large productions, a considerable driving force and a significant immobilization of labor.
The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus which can be arranged in such a way as to allow cold coating, in an automatic and continuous manner, which has the effect, on the one hand, of reducing the driving force born. necessary and, on the other hand, to reduce the workforce.
The apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a rotary mixer body comprising two chambers in communication with one another, provided with means intended to circulate through them the material to be coated, the one of these chambers used for pre-coating with a certain binder and the other for coating with another binder.
In the appended drawing, given only by way of example: FIG. 1 is a schematic elevation view of an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the mixer body.
Figs. 3 to 5 are views similar to that of FIG. 2, illustrating alternative embodiments of the mixer body.
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the main element of the apparatus consists of a rotary mixer body comprising two envelopes 1 and 2, coaxial and substantially frustoconical, intended to define, the first, a chamber 3 called pre-coating, the second , a so-called coating chamber 4.
The two envelopes 1 and 2 are arranged end to end and made integral with each other, for example by means of bolts 5, so that the end of the smaller diameter of the envelope 1 opens into the in veloppe 2, on the side of the end with the largest diameter of the latter.
On the internal wall of the casing 1 is arranged a continuous helical rib 6, constituting a sort of Archimedean screw; likewise, a helical rib 7, also constituting Archimedean screw, is provided on the internal wall of the casing 2. The respective pitches of said ribs are such that the rib 7 constitutes, in a way, the extension of the helical rib 6 of casing 1.
The mixer body described is completed by two rolling circles 8 and 9 secured, respectively, to the outer wall of the casing 1 and to the outer wall of the casing 2.
The mixer body rests, by its two rolling circles 8 and 9, on grooved rollers 10 and 11, wedged on two parallel longitudinal shafts 12, mounted in bearings 13, integral with the frame 14 of the apparatus. The latter is constituted by two longitudinal members. braced profiles and between which are disposed two trays 15 and 16 intended to contain, the first, the binder necessary for the realization of the pre-coating, the second, the finishing binder intended for the actual coating.
At the front of each tank 15, 16, the frame 14 is provided with a pump 17, 18, which sucks the binder from the tank 15, 16, to which it is associated to push it, the first, into the pre-coating chamber 3, the second, in the coating chamber 4.
The rotational drive of the longitudinal shafts 12 is provided by a motor 19 mounted on a platform formed by the forward extension of the side members of the frame 14 and, by means of a transverse shaft. rear 20, provided at each of its ends with a worm 21, engaged with a corresponding helical wheel 22, wedged on the rear end of each shaft 12. The shaft 20 is arranged on two supports formed by the extension of the two side walls of the tank 16, said shaft being driven from the motor 19 by a belt, not shown.
For loading into the body my laxity of the material to be coated, stone for example, a bucket elevator 23 is mounted on the frame 14, of any known type, capable of removing the stone from a heap and of the discharge through a chute 24 inside the casing 1 and on the side of the large diameter phis end of this casing. Preferably, the elevator is set in motion by means of a chain 25, connecting its control wheel 26 to a chain wheel 27, wedged on the end of one of the shafts 12. One obtains, thus , synchronism between the movements of the mixer body and the elevator, which makes it possible to measure the quantity of stone introduced by the said elevator into chamber 3.
As regards the pumps 17 and 18, they are controlled by cams 28 and 29, secured, respectively, to the outer wall of the casings 1 and 2, in order to allow a dosage of the binders appropriate to the quantity of stone. treat.
The whole of the apparatus is adjusted in such a way that each revolution of the rotating mixer body corresponds to the discharge into chamber 3 of a determined number of buckets from the elevator 23 and a determined number of strokes. pump.
For the evacuation of the coated material, the outlet end of the casing 2 opens out above a chute 30, mounted in a folding manner.
As shown, the rotating body my laxity is contained, for the most part, in an outer casing 31 also serving as a shelter for the binder trays 15 and 16.
In order to enable the apparatus described to be moved on the road, the frame 14 is provided with wheels 32 and 33. In addition, the frame is provided with all the accessory devices necessary for proper operation of the apparatus, such as a steering wheel. 34 for controlling the brakes, drain cocks 35 and 36 for the pumps 17 and 18, handwheel 37 of a three-way valve 38 associated with the pump 18.
The operation of the device described is as follows The motor 19 being running drives the rear shaft 20, which rotates the two longitudinal shafts 12, provided with rollers 10 and 11, and which ensure, on the one hand, the rotation of the mixer body and, on the other hand, the drive of the elevator 23.
The stones taken by this elevator are introduced through the chute 24 into the chamber 3 where they are subjected to a first spraying with the binder. taken from the tank 15 by the pump 17 and which is discharged, by the latter, to any suitable place in said chamber. The mixing body being in rotation, the stones introduced into the chamber 3 travel over the entire length of this chamber thanks to the action of the helical rib 6. In this chamber 3, the stones introduced are therefore subjected to a pre- robage and mixing until they are poured into the chamber 4, in which is discharged, in any suitable place, the finishing binder taken from the tank 16 by the pump 18.
The pre-coated stones which arrive in the chamber 4 are then packed with the finishing binder, while they are forced to travel over the entire length of said chamber 4, under the action of the helical rib 7.
In chamber 4, the stones are subjected to a second mixing until they arrive at the end of said chamber 4 where they flow outside the device through discharge chute 30.
Thanks to the apparatus described and shown, the cold coating of the materials intended to constitute road surfaces is therefore carried out in an automatic and continuous manner and by reducing to the strict minimum the labor required for driving and monitoring the device. It should also be noted that the device can be very easily towed on the road, which makes it easier to move from one site to another.
Tests carried out with the apparatus described using binders of different qualities, both for the pre-coating phase and for the finishing phase, have shown that obtaining a perfect result in the two processing phases depends on , depending on the binders used, not only the mixing time, but also the speed with which the materials are forced to roll on themselves during mixing which, for a determined speed of rotation of the mixing body, is a function of the relative path traveled by these materials in the two chambers of said body.
Thus, with certain binders, it is necessary for the pre-coating phase to take place at high speed and for the finishing coating phase to take place at low speed, while with other binders , it is necessary that the finishing coating phase is carried out at a much higher speed than the pre-coating phase.
When it is necessary for the pre-coating phase to be carried out at high speed and for the finishing coating phase to be carried out at low speed, it is preferable to replace the mixer body shown in FIG. 2 by the mixer body illustrated in FIG. 3, in which the two envelopes 1 and 2, integral with one another, are cylindrical and coaxial. As shown, the diameter of the casing 1 which delimits the pre-coating chamber is greater than the diameter of the casing 2 which delimits the finishing coating chamber.
The materials to be coated having to move in the mixer body in the direction of the arrows, the last turn of the helical rib 6, that is to say the turn of this rib adjacent to the inlet end of the casing 2 is arranged in such a way that it raises the materials arriving at the outlet end of the casing 1 to pass them into the casing 2, during the rotation of the mixer body.
The two envelopes 1 and 2 being of lengths determined according to the quality of the binder used and both being driven in rotation at the same speed, it can be seen that, due to the difference in diameter of the envelopes 1 and 2, the materials circulate in the envelope 1 at -a speed greater than that which they can take in the envelope 2.
With the mixer body of fig. 1 and 2, it is therefore possible to prepare coated materials with binders requiring a high speed for the pre-coating phase and a low speed for the finishing coating phase.
The mixer body of FIG. 4 is similar to that of FIG. 3, but, in the latter case, it is the envelope 2 which has a greater diameter than that of the envelope 1. With this second apparatus, it is therefore possible to coat materials with binders requiring a low speed for the pre-coating phase and high speed for the finishing coating phase.
The mixer body of FIG. 5, with which it is possible to prepare coated materials in the same way as with the apparatus of FIG. 4, differs from the latter device in that the casing 2, instead of being in the extension of the casing 1, is arranged, at least in part, around said casing 1, in order to allow the materials during coating to follow the path indicated by the arrows.
For operation to be possible, it is simply necessary that the pitch of the helical rib i, provided inside the casing 2, is reversed with respect to the pitch of the helical rib 6 provided inside. from envelope 1.
In any one of the mixer bodies described, the pre-coating phase always takes place in the first envelope of the mixer body, the finishing coating phase always taking place in the second envelope. .
In all the preceding examples of execution, the two envelopes of the body my laxity are coaxial, as is preferable. It goes without saying, however, that we do not fall outside the scope of the invention by realizing the mixer body in the form of two parallel tubes, offset in a vertical plane and interconnected by a chute, the pre-coating being done in the upper tube and the finishing coating in the lower tube.
