Electric soldering iron. The object of the present invention is an electric soldering iron P, comprising a copper head partially embedded in a metal handle, characterized in that the head is split in its median plane over its entire embedded part, so as to form a housing containing a flat electric heating body, the whole in such a way as to ensure a large heat transmission surface and effective protection of the heating body.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the soldering iron which is the subject of the present invention as well as a variant.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view with partial section of said embodiment. The fi-. 2 shows said variant.
The, fig. 3 is a plan view of the copper head fitted with the electric heating body.
In the embodiment shown, the soldering iron comprises a handle 1. made of cast aluminum with an insulating handle 2. A copper head 3, of rectangular cross section, is partially embedded at the end of the wanche 2. This head is split in its median plane, along the major axis of its section, throughout the embedded part, so as to. form a housing in which is pressed one. flat electric heating body 4 mounted between two sheets of mica. In the metal part of the handle, the electrical conductors 5 are insulated with beads of refractory material.
At the exit of the handle, the electric cord 6 has a switch 7, placed in the immediate vicinity of the handle.
In the variant of FIG. 2, the handle has a joint 8 near its extremity, in order to be able to tilt the head of the iron and thus facilitate access to certain parts to be welded.
As a variant, the copper head may have an oval or round section, the slot being arranged along the major axis, respectively a diameter.
The advantage of this soldering iron is that it heats up quickly thanks to the arrangement of the electric heating body, and that the latter does not deteriorate. Indeed, the two inner faces of the median slot forming the housing of the heating body offer the latter a large heat transmission surface and protect it effectively.
