Entre la face interne de la mâchoire 2 et le levier 17 est intercalé un ressort hélicoïdal 27, dont les extrémités sont engagées sur des ergots 28 fet 29 établis respectivement sur la mâ choire 2 et sur le levier 17. Ce ressort tend à maintenir les galets 14 en eo-ntact avec la face inférieure de la plaque d'appui 12. Celle- ci est donc maintenue à sa position haute;
Screw and pneumatically controlled vice. Screw vices. and pneumatically operated valves have the disadvantage that compressed air leaks can easily occur around the plunger by which the vice is operated. The object of the present invention makes it possible to remedy this defect.
The screw and pneumatically controlled vice, the description of which will follow, is charac terized in that the movable jaw of the vice is arranged so that it can be actuated by means of a stressed membrane. by compressed air, said member being able to move the movable jaw of the vice by means of a set of levers arranged between the two jaws.
These levers are preferably arranged so that the movement of the mem brane is increased, which makes it possible to obtain a powerful increase in the effect due to the pressure. the end of the clamping movement. In addition, a threaded rod integral with the movable jaw (or said assembly of the jaw) is preferably actuated by a spring and such that the rod and the jaw which is integral with it are brought back to their exact initial location, obtained at l 'using the threaded rod, - when the pressure stops acting on the membrane.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 show respectively iirie vertical longitudinal section and a plan view (the cover of the housing of the mem brane being removed) of the vice.
The vice comprises two jaws 1 and 2, the last being fixed and the first being movable. An exact adjustment of the position of the movable jaw is obtained by means of a threaded rod 3 which is freely engaged, at one end, in the fixed jaw 2 and, by its other end, in a part 4 of a frame integral with the jaw 2. A threaded portion 5 of the. rod is engaged in a nut 6 mounted in the jaw 1.
Between a control button 7 fixed to the outer end of the threaded rod 3 and part 4 of the frame is interposed a helical spring 8 which exerts a thrust on the rod and which tends, when the pneumatic control does not act, to hand hold the movable jaw 1 in the exact adjustment position obtained using the threaded rod.
In a box 9, integral with the jaw 2 and closed by a removable cover 10, is established a membrane 11, clamped between the cover 10 and a fixed annular support 13 mounted on this jaw 2. The membrane can be made of any flexible material. or flexible suitable, but preferably rubber. A support plate 12 is applied to the underside of the membrane; this plate can move up and down, in the free and cylindrical space in the center of the support 13.
The plate 12 is maintained in contact with the membrane by two rollers 14 and 15, which can turn around the ends of an axis 16 mounted on a lever 17 articulated to a pivot 18 fixed in the jaw 2. The axis 16 is articulated at the corresponding end of the threaded rod 3 by means of two rods 19 and 20 and a sleeve 21 engaged on the end of this rod and which carries two lugs 22: and 23, diametrically opposed, engaged in: housings provided respectively in the connecting rods 19 and 20.
The sleeve 21 is freely engaged on the rod, threaded between two fixed stops 24 and 25 so as to be able to turn, without being able to slide axially, relative to this rod. In the links 19 and 20 are formed openings 26 which are large enough to allow movement of the links in vertical planes as they move away from the pivot 18.
Between the internal face of the jaw 2 and the lever 17 is interposed a helical spring 27, the ends of which are engaged on lugs 28 fet 29 established respectively on the jaw 2 and on the lever 17. This spring tends to hold the rollers 14 in eo-ntact with the lower face of the support plate 12. The latter is therefore maintained in its high position;
shown on the. fig. 1, as long as the supply of compressed air is interrupted.
The compressed air is supplied to a chamber 30, provided between the cover 10 and the membrane 11 and into which a pressurized air duct 31 ends, with an adjustment valve 32.
When a part-must be clamped in the vice, one oornmence by precisely adjusting the position of the jaw 1 by acting on the rod 3 using the button 7, the movable jaw 1 thus being moved by the nut 6 towards said room. After this exact adjustment, the jaws are clamped by the opening of valve 32.
The membrane 11 then pushes the axis 16 downwards via the support plate 12, while the lever 17 rotates around the pivot 18. The lever 17 and the links 19 and 20 thus act as a nouillère ge to exert an axial tensile force on the threaded rod -3 so that the jaw 1 is clamped against the part engaged between the jaws.
During -this last clamping movement, the coil spring 8 is compressed.
When the valve 32 is closed and when the air pressure ceases to act on the membrane 11, the threaded rod 3 is returned to the exact setting position by means of the spring 8 assisted by the spring 27.
