Le couvercle 8 du cylindre porte une lame d'arrêt 20 montée sur le couvercle par une vis 21 et pouvant tourner autour de cette vis comme pivot; un ressort 22 (fig. 3) formé par exemple d'une lame élastique attelée à la vis 21 et à une autre vis fixe 23 du cou vercle, agit par son extrémité libre 24 con tre la tranche de la lame d'arrêt 20 pour la pousser contre la tige 10 du piston, de ma nière à la faire coopérer avec les crans 25 d'une denture en forme de dents de scie, de cette tige;
Compressed air press for casting precious metals. The invention relates to a press for die casting tines, for lost wax casting, molten metals with a view to obtaining dental pieces, goldsmith's objects and all other analogues of the kind. in which an air pump is used to send compressed air over the molten metal in the mold.
The object of the invention is a press of this type which is relatively inexpensive, very simple, very easy to handle and which can be entrusted to anyone as a result of its complete automaticity. This press is characterized by the fact that the pump part (cylinder base or piston) which is movable and can be applied on the upper edge of the mold in the known manner, is guided axially relative to the mold by two lateral uprights. along which it can slide and on which it can be fixed in any position, while the other pump part, which rests on the first, in its position away from the mold, by means of a spring,
is articulated to the operating lever itself connected to a piston fixed by means of a double-articulated connecting rod.
The press according to the invention may include a latching device between the two pump parts to allow adjustment of the air pressure obtained and to automatically maintain the pressure on the molten metal by simply fixing the part. mobile on its guide posts.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a general view of the apparatus in axial longitudinal section; fig. 2 is a cross section through II-II (fig. 1); fig. 3 is a plan.
The apparatus comprises a ribbed base 1 in which is formed a cylindrical cavity 2 of axis 0-0 with filling rings 3, 3 of different diameters, to accommodate the envelopes of molds of different diameters (such as i111 shown in phantom) on a seal washer 4.
On this base are fixed two guide rods 5 diametrically opposed with respect to the axis 0-0 to serve as a guide .au the pump or cylinder C guided by its ears 6; a pressure screw 7 makes it possible to immobilize the cylinder dre C suspended on the rods 5. The cylinder which is closed by a cover 8 pierced with a hole for the entry of air sucked in from the outside, comprises a piston with crimped leather 9 mounted on the end of a rod 10 articulated at 11 to the operating lever 12 with handle 12 ', itself articulated, by means of a link 13, at the fixed point 14.
This articulation point 14 is constituted by a yoke 15 'at the end of a rod 15 which can slide in a bush 16 bolted to the frame 1 and which can be fixed in position in this bush by the clamping screw. 17, so as to make it possible to vary the height of the point of articulation 14 above the base and according to the height of the envelope of the mold. A spring 18 is interposed between a shoulder of the piston rod 10 and the cover 8 of the cylinder so that when the latter is kept raised by tightening the screw 7, the lever 12 remains supported in its raised position like the shows fig. 1.
The cylinder bottom p constitutes the closing plate of the envelope of the mold, being for this purpose ribbed on its lower face so as to be able to apply a plastic washer forming a tight seal against the rim r of the envelope M of the mold; this bottom p is also pierced with a central orifice 19.
It can be seen that, if the operating handle 12 'is lowered (after having of course tightened the stop screw 7) the bottom p of the cylinder comes to rest against the edge r of the casing of the mold which is thus closed in a watertight manner; but while continuing the movement, the piston 9 moves in the cylinder dre C and consequently, at the same time as the closing plate p keeps the mold closed with a force determined by the res out 18 which compresses, the air compressed is forced by the piston through the orifice 19 in the mold to ensure complete filling by the metal.
The cylinder cover 8 carries a stop blade 20 mounted on the cover by a screw 21 and able to rotate around this screw as a pivot; a spring 22 (fig. 3) formed for example of an elastic blade coupled to the screw 21 and to another fixed screw 23 of the cover, acts by its free end 24 against the edge of the stop blade 20 to push it against the rod 10 of the piston, so as to make it cooperate with the notches 25 of a toothing in the form of saw teeth, of this rod;
a small button 26 of the stop blade 20 allows it to be moved away from the piston rod to release the latter. This arrangement makes it possible to vary the initial position of the piston 9 in its cylinder so as to adjust the remaining stroke length from the moment when the cylinder base p is applied against the casing of the mold t11, and consequently to adjust the air pressure at full stroke.
In addition, this blade or stop pawl makes it possible to lock the piston with respect to the cylinder at the end of the compression stroke, so that, after complete lowering of the operating lever, it suffices to tighten the screw 7 to that the cylinder is kept applied to the mold and that the pressure is maintained .in the latter without having to hold the lever by hand.
We will notice. that the spring 18 has the effect of ensuring the pressure necessary for the sealing of the seal during the movement of the piston in its cylinder, despite the action of the compressed air which is exerted below the closure plate p inside the envelope 111 of the mold.
The gas burner 27 with connection olives 28 is articulated on a rod 29 sliding in a hollow column 30 and being able to be fixed in place by a stop screw 31; the. hollow column 30 is itself fixed to the base 1 of the apparatus by a nut screwed onto its threaded lower end, which passes through the base 1 by an elongated slot or slide 32 arranged radially; in this way, the distance of the burner as well as its height relative to the mold can be adjusted as desired according to the diameter and according to the height of the casing of the mold, by moving the support column 30 in the slot 32 and support 29 in column 30.
The articulation of the burner 27 on the support 29 forms a valve whose valve 33 is constituted by the burner pipe and the key 34 by a pin of the support 29, so that it suffices to lower the burner to the hand around its articulation to cut off the gas supply and extinguish the burner at the same time as the passage for cylinder C. is released. It is even possible to ensure that it is the stop of the lower edge of cylinder C against the cylinder. burner which automatically determines its rotation and its extinction.
The operation is as follows: The envelope M with its mold being placed after the usual heating operation and after removal of the rings 3 of smaller diameter, the height of the pivot 14 and the burner being adjusted to them by the screws 17 and 31 according to the diameter and the height of the mold, and finally the initial position of the piston in its cylinder being determined, according to the pressure that is to be obtained, by a preliminary partial lowering of the lever 12, the metal is heated. 'we want to flow by means of the burner in the usual way then, when the desired temperature is reached, we loosen the screw 7, we lower the handle 12' fully in a single movement and tighten the screw 7.
Automatically the cylinder came to close the mold by removing and extinguishing the burner, and compressed air was sent inside the mold. The operation is therefore very fast; there is no cooling to worry about and the pressure is limited to exactly the degree desired.
Of course, the embodiment described is given only by way of example and may vary in many ways without departing from the scope of the invention; instead of the mold being fixed and the pump body mobile, the reverse arrangement could be carried out; instead of the closing plate p being formed by the cylinder base, it could be formed by the piston itself, the operating lever being, in this case, linked to the cylinder; instead of the pressure obtained at the end of the stroke being adjusted by varying the initial position of the piston in the cylinder, it could be adjusted by varying the final position of the piston in the cylinder by adapting the snap-fit between the cylinder and the piston rod.
The bottom p can be formed by an interchangeable base to make it possible to vary its diameter according to that of the envelope 111 of the mold.
