Device for adjusting the exposure time of a photographic camera. The object of the present invention is a device for adjusting the exposure time of a photographic camera. This device comprises a button that an axial displacement engages with the shutter adjusting mechanism and whose rotation in a determined cn varies the exposure time.
This device is further characterized by the fact that the button is rotatably mounted so as to be able to slide axially in the wall of the apparatus, and by a ratchet mechanism locking the button in its rest position and not allowing it to turn only in its adjustment position, and in one direction, the whole in order to lock the button in all the manipulations other than the adjustment of the exposure time, and to again ensure the exact coincidence of the button with the shutter mechanism after triggering and resetting the shutter.
The accompanying drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, a photographic apparatus provided with an embodiment of the adjustment device being the object. of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a general view of the shutter adjustment mechanism of this camera.
The fi--. 2 is an axial section of the device for adjusting the exposure time.
Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views of two details. Fig. 5 is a partial perspective view of a detail.
The camera shown comprises an exposure time adjustment device which comprises a button 1 for the exposure time indications and rotatably mounted, and so as to be able to slide axially, in the wall 2 of the 'camera. To this end, the button 1 is integral with a shaft 3 which can rotate and slide axially in a barrel 4 itself integral with the wall 2.
The button 1 has an internal housing in which engages a spring 5 resting, on the other hand, on the base of the barrel 4 and intended to return the button to its rest position, that is to say in the position for which it is pushed as far as possible out of the wall 2, as shown in FIG. 2.
The end of the button located inside the device has a collar in which teeth 6 are cut, of which. the upper face is slanted, so as to form a ratchet cooperating with a pawl 7. The latter is formed of a plate which can slide axially relative to the button in a fixed support 8.
The stroke of the pawl is limited by a pin 9 which is solid in the support 8 and cooperating with an oval hole which the pawl has. A spring 10 presses on the upper end of the pawl, so as to tend to return it always to its lower position. This position is that shown in fig. 2, where the button is at rest, and in fig. 5, where the button is in the exposure time setting position.
At its lower end, the axis 3 of the button carries a coupling sleeve 11, the periphery of which is cut so as to engage on a plate 12 integral with the axis of the first gear 13 of the adjustment mechanism of the shutter. This plate has two sectors of unequal width, so as to be able to engage in only one angular position with the sleeve 11.
The cutouts of the latter present a right side determining the angular position of the coupling and an inclined side allowing its easy engagement with the plate 12 despite the slight recoil of the latter under the action of the elasticity and the friction of the parts constituting the mechanism for adjusting the exposure time.
The principle of this device for adjusting the exposure time is represented by the diagram in FIG. 1. The button 1 drives, by the wheel 13 and the intermediate wheels 13a, a wheel integral with a cam 14.
This cam is rotatably mounted with friction and a retaining pawl on a first drive wheel 15 of one of the two curtains 16 of the shutter. Behind the first wheel 15 is a second identical wheel 1.5 driving the other curtain. The first wheel 15 is controlled by a trigger button 17 acting on a lever for retaining a pin integral with said wheel. The second wheel 15 is itself triggered by the cam 14 acting on a lever for retaining a pin integral with the second wheel.
The first curtain, when triggered, opens the shutter, while the second closes it. It can be seen that the exposure time can be varied at will by changing the pitch angle of the cam 14, so that the second wheel 15 is triggered with more or less delay after the triggering of the first wheel. A cocking button 18 enables the wheels 15 to be returned to their initial position by means of intermediate wheels and a mechanism not shown.
The operation of the device for adjusting the exposure time shown is as follows: The operator presses the button to lower it to its adjustment position, then he turns it to bring it to the mark indicating the exposure time. desired exposure. The button re itself comes to its rest position by the action of its return spring.
The operator then presses the release button releasing the first curtain then, at the end of the desired exposure time, by the action of the cam 14, the second curtain is released in turn. The two curtains are returned to their initial position by turning the cocking button 18.
The advantage of the device for adjusting the exposure time described above is that, during all the manipulations subsequent to this adjustment, the button is locked by its pawl, which thus ensures the. Exact coincidence of the button with the shutter adjustment mechanism during the next adjustment.
In. variant, the button may carry a pawl cooperating with a toothed ring integral with the wall of the device.
