Apparatus for keeping the pressure above a determined value at a given point #a liquid pipe. The present invention relates to -an apparatus for maintaining above a determined value the pressure at a given point of a liquid line. When it comes to transporting at large distances of a liquid, be aware that it is necessary to carefully study the line of pressures along the piping if Pon is to maintain this completely full of liquid and prevent this liquid from being mixed with a gas or with a vapor.
in In the study of this pressure line, care must be taken that the pressure in the piping is everywhere at least equal, to atmospheric pressure. In the absence of this precaution, any lack of tightness in the piping or accessory parts, instead of resulting in a liquid leak to the outside, easy to detect and consequently to </ B > repair, would result in an inflow of air in the piping, an inflow of air which can have serious consequences as will be indicated below.
In addition, when the liquid can reach a temperature in the piping at which its vapor pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure, it is still necessary that at any point in the piping, the pressure is always greater than the vapor pressure corresponding to the highest temperature that can be reached at this point. If this -condition were not fulfilled, the liquid would turn into vapor at all points where its temperature #. Will correspond: it to a higher voltage -than the prevailing pressure at this place.
In either case, it can be seen that a defective line of the pressure line results in the presence in the pipe of a gaseous phase in contact with the liquid phase, which can lead to inQon- Serious and multiple problems, First of all, the flow rate in the pipe is reduced since it must carry, in addition to the liquid, either air or saturated vapor, the specific volume of which is considerably greater than that of the liquid.
In the second place, the alternation of liquid masses and gaseous masses in the same pipe, - is a cause of shocks which may be prejudicial to the more or less delicate devices which can - be found on the pipe downstream of the - point where the gas is produced or introduced. In particular, a centrifugal pump will get carried away when the gas passes and will be braked suddenly when the liquid passes, this which can cause premature wear of the fins, or even their failure, for a - This is a similar reason to that well-known for 'water-bursts' in steam turbines.
Finally, when the liquid contained in the piping is water - and the para-site fluid is Air (which is a very frequent case), corrosion can occur to The interior of. piping in which the metal is subjected alternately to the action of water and to -that of air.
For these various reasons, great care must be taken to to avoid the introduction of air or the production of steam in the piping -and, for this purpose, to maintain the pressure -to a sufficient value for all the points and for all the values of the flow.
A known method of achieving -to this result is to determine the point in the piping where the conditions are most unfavorable, that is, # st-ù, - say the point such that if the pressure y is greater than the minimum necessary, the pressure at any other point will ipso facto be greater than this, minimum.
At this point -a manometric member whose pressure is transmitted hydraulically, pneumatically or electronically to a servo-motor which controls a -valve placed at a carefully chosen point of the piping is placed.
The opening or closing of this valve has been calculated according to the corresponding gauge pressure in such a way that they maintain at the desired value the pressure at the chosen point.
The disadvantage of this process is. Do not need a tube or a connecting line between the manometric member and the valve servomotor. This connection -is first of all a waste-water if -the point where the gauge pressure is taken is far from that where the tap is located. There is also a risk of disturbance due to a possible rupture of this tube or this line, which it is therefore necessary to check and maintain periodically.
The present invention seeks to eliminate these im ,, disadvantages.
The drawing represents, to by way of example, some embodiments of the object of the invention: FIG. 1 is a diagram of the piping showing how the pressure line varies according to the flow rate in a piping not fitted with the apparatus according to the invention, FIG. 2 the same diagram showing how the pressure line varies once the apparatus which is the subject of the invention has been installed; figs. 3 and 4 are schematic cross sections of two embodiments of the apparatus; figs. 5, 6 and 7 are cuts from other variations.
In fig. 1, we have shown in 1, 2, D, 1 the longitudinal profile of a pipe whose part 1, 2 is descending while part 2, 3, is substantially horizontal. A its origin at 1, the piping receives a -certain -water flow, for example by means of a pump 4. A its end 3, the piping opens out at the atmospheric pressure. We know how to calculate the pressure drop in the 1, 2, 3 pipe for this flow.
If this pressure drop is taken to 5, 6 the same scale as the longitudinal profile of the pipe, the length 1, 6 will represent the load in the piping at point 1. Similarly for all the other points of the piping 1, 2, 3. We can thus draw the pressure line 6, 3 ,. In fig. 1, the pressure line has been chosen - straight for simplicity, which is almost to assume that the piping 1, 2 , 3. apart from the same diameter,
but it is certain that the conclusions which follow would apply just as well whatever the form of this line.
For the # Considered flow, the pressure line 6, 3 is always located above the piping 1, 2-, 3, which implies that the load is always positive; but for a lower flow rate, for which the pressure drop in the piping would be represented by the length 5, 7 and the pressure line by the straight line 7, 3, it would no longer be the same. The pressure line and -the piping intersect at point 8- which shows that all the part of the piping between point 1 and -point 8- is in depression.
More generally, for -a pipe- terie having a shape such as 1, 2, 3, there will be there depression in the piping each time the flow will have, a value lower than that for which the pressure drop in the piping is equal to to the -length &, 1 . This flow rate represents the minimum flow rate that can pass through the piping without risk of air entry due to lack, tightness.
If, in addition, the liquid was liable to vaporize in the piping, it would be necessary to bring upwards to from the point 1 a length 1, 9 , representing the vapor pressure for the highest temperature that can prevail at point 1. The minimum flow rate in the piping would then be that for which the pressure drop is represented by length 5, 9.
In the example # considered, the point at which the pressure must be maintained is the initial point 1. It is not always. necessarily so; for example, if the piping had one or more siphon-shaped passages, the point to to consider could be the top of one of them. In all cases, the plot of the pressure line will provide information on the point that must be chosen.
Fig. 2 shows #comment the instalation of a -tap at point 10 makes it possible to deform the pressure line in such a way that it always passes above the pipe. If this valve creates a pressure drop represented by the -length 11, 12, the pressure line will take the form 9, 12, 11, S, < / B> such that line 9, 12 is parallel to line 7, Il.
This pressure drop 11, 12 'can be achieved automatically according to a known method by controlling the position of the valve 10 by a manometric device placed at point 1 </ B> and set for load 1, 9, so that if the -load at point 1 is greater than this value, the valve opens and vice versa. Opening the valve 10 results in a decrease in the pressure drop 11, 12, which brings back to point 9 the point of start of the line, pressure.
Fig. 3 shows schematically an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, which consists essentially of a valve body 13 -à inside which is a 13 ' partition having an opening 15 forming a seat to receive an unbalanced valve 14.
The valve 14 is mounted on a 16 rod sliding between 1,6, 16 " and 16" 'glands - and is connected to < / B> one end to a member tending to close it; in fig. 3 this organ is a weight 17, but it could just as easily be a spring, a piston or any other device creating a force. A < / B> its other end, the rod 16 is connected to a contained 18 membrane, in a box 19. </ B>
The valve 14 is arranged such that the water circulating in the body of the tap, from the inlet port 20 i to the outlet port 2.1 passes under the valve 14, that is to say so that -the movement of water tends to open it.
A perforated diaphragm 22 is mounted on the piping bringing water to the inlet port 20 and tubes 23 and 24 respectively connected to < / B> the piping on the upstream side and on the downstream side of #this diaphragm transmits the corresponding water pressures under and over the diaphragm # e 18.
The force acted constantly; on the valve 14 (that is to say in fig. 3, the weight 17) -is calculated so to balance a column of water having a height equal to the length 5, 9 of fig. 2. Under these conditions, the valve would work exactly the same as a safety valve if there was no pressure drop in the -duct between point 1 -and point 10. We see in fig. 2, that because of this pressure drop, the tank, ", acting on the valve is not represented by the length 5, 9, but by the length 10, < / B> 12.
The role of the 18 membrane is precisely to compensate for this loss of charge. The difference in the pressures acting on the two faces of the membrane 18, which is equal to the pressure difference on either side of the diaphragm 2-2, is the greater the greater the flow, that is to say the loss of -charge between point 1 and point 10, of FIG. 2 is higher.
By judiciously calculating the area of the diaphragm 18 and the section of the hole of the diaphragm 22 # by T-to, the -surface of the -valve 14, we can therefore obtain -that the force exerted on the membrane 18 and transmitted -to the valve 14 substantially compensates for the reduction in the force exerted on said valve as a result of the pressure drop due to the flow in the pipe.
As the pressure at the point 1 increases, the pressure under the valve 14 likewise increases, which produces an increase in the opening of the latter. At the same time, the pressure drop between point l and point 10 increases, which # decreases the pressure under -valve 14 and tends to ü cause a partial closure thereof; but at the same time the pressure drop through the diaphragm 22 having increased, so too does the difference- of the pressures acting on the two faces of the membrane 18 '</ B > which keeps the pope 14 in its new position.
Fig. 4 shows a variant of the invention according to which, in order to eliminate all the cable glands, the weight 17 -is inside the inside of the valve body < B> 13. The upper face of the membrane 18 -communicates directly with the water contained in the tap, to upstream of the valve 14, which eliminates the tube 2,4, the pressure in this part of the valve being substantially the same as downstream of the diaphragm 22. In FIG. 5, the same reference numbers designate the same components as in figs. 3 and 4.
The weight 17 is placed in the valve body IS, and the rod 16, couliose at its upper end in a guide provided in the cap of this body.
Fig. 6 shows a variant of the apparatus shown in in fig. 3. In this figure, the same reference numerals denote the same elements as in fig. 3t.
The diaphragm 18 is replaced by a piston 30, sliding in a cylinder 30 ', the operation remaining the same. Such an arrangement has been provided to allow greater lift of the valve 14 when its flow rate becomes very large.
For the same reason, when the speed of the fluid in the pipe comes to its normal value, then it is advantageous to increase the opening of the valve 14, so to </ B> reduce the pressure drop of the fluid.
A for this purpose, we could also use an auxiliary device called hereinafter pressure distributor-relay ". This device makes it possible to use the geometric or manometric load H of the fluid contained in the pipe to cause the opening of the valve 14, when the flow rate of this pipe comes to exceed a certain value and it is necessary to increase this flow rate without increasing the pressure drop of the fluid to tra towards the valve.
This latter device is therefore combined, as shown schematically to in FIG. 7, with the valve arranged according to fig. 6.
In this figure, A, B, C designate the down pipe of incompressible fluid.
Said auxiliary apparatus comprises two essential components: 10 A cylinder whose double piston aa 'receives the pressures prevailing on either side of the diaphragm 22 with using the pipes link b and c. This double piston is subjected, on the other hand, to the action of an anfago- nist spring h . 20 A double pressurized fluid distributor spool dd ', which has the function of putting the compartment e of the servo motor cylinder 30' of the valve 14 in communication with either the downstream compartment of this valve , or with the side downstream of diaphragm 22.
The with double piston cylinder and the double pressure distributor spool are connected by a g beam which sorrel around an axis g.
The whole of this device works as follows: The valve 14 is loaded with using the counterweight 17 to which is added the weight of the piston 30, so to balance the geometric load H of the fluid. The operation of this valve is identical to that of the valve according to fig. 6.
At the high point A, the pressure in the pipe is kept slightly higher than the atmospheric pressure.
As # the fluid flow rate increases, the pressure difference between upstream and downstream of diaphragm 22 increases; it manifests itself on the double piston aa 'in the direction aa'. The action of this pressure difference created by the diaphragm 22 compresses the antagonist spring h by moving the double piston aa 'up and down. The g sorrel plague and moves the dd drawer up and down.
A pipe i, the orifice (or lumen) of which is thus discovered, then puts the compartment e in communication with the pipe D, downstream of the valve 14, via the intermediary k. The D pipe is in relation with the atmosphere. A at this time, the pressure of the liquid at upstream of diaphragm 22, which is exerted permanently in compartment f, under the face of piston 30, via piping 1, has its full effect.
If we denote by: AP, the pressure drop of the fluid in the pipe to upstream of valve 14, PO, the pressure atmospheric, Pl, the pressure at upstream of the diaphragm 22, P2, the pressure at downstream of the diaphragm 22, the pressure difference between compartments e and f of the servo-motor cylinder of valve 14 will be: Pl - PO = H - < / I> AP.
If, on the contrary, the flow of the pipe A, B, C decreases, the resistance of the antagonist spring h no longer being balanced as a result of the reduction in the difference Pl-P2, the double piston aa 'and the beam g are animated by movements opposite to those described previously, so that the distributor slide dd 'descends from top to bottom, thus closing the lumen of pipe i and uncovering the orifice or lumen of pipe j which is in communication with the downstream side of diaphragm 22.
In this case, the valve 14 is not biased in the direction of its opening; only the pressure loss under this valve, resulting from the. AP pressure drop is compensated.
