Hollow body flange. The object of the present invention is a hollow body flange, characterized by a flange integral with the shell of the hollow body, by a reinforcing flange of this mantle and by at least one stiffening element integral with the flange on the one hand, and of the sleeve and of the flange of the reinforcement on the other hand, the whole in order to reduce the tensions at the point where the flange is connected to the hollow body and thus to obtain a saving in material of the assembly.
In a hollow body connection by flanges, the assembly members, which must withstand the same longitudinal forces as those which exist in the mantles of the hollow bodies, are always in an offset position with respect to these mantles. When this misalignment is moderate, a flange of the ordinary type can easily withstand the forces to which it is subjected.
The same is not true as soon as this offset increases, as is the case, for example, in a connection of a sheet metal pipe with a cast iron valve. This excessive distance between the assembly members and the wall of the mantle results in a significant increase in the forces which the flange must withstand, and if the latter is of the conventional type, its dimensions must be considerably increased, and consequently its weight, because in this type of flange, the metal works in very bad conditions.
The present invention has the advantage of making it possible to overcome this drawback, in particular in the case of large-dimension hollow body flanges.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the flange which is the subject of the invention and the invention is a variant of this embodiment.
Fig. 1 is an overall view of this embodiment, FIG. 2 is a partial section thereof, and FIG. 3 is a partial section of the variant.
In the embodiment shown, the flange is that of a forced-pipe pipe made of welded sheet 1, of internal diameter D. This pipe has at its end a flange 2 which is fixed by bolts 3 to the flange shown in fig. . 1 from a cast iron valve or pipe from an adjacent section of the penstock. A frustoconical stiffening sleeve 4 of sheet metal connects the flange 2 to the pipe 1, and a flange 5 reinforces the pipe 1 at the level of the intersection of the median surface of the wall of the frustoconical sleeve 4 and the median surface of the wall of the pipe 1.
The sleeve 4 is fixed to the flange 2 by a weld 6 and both to the wall of the pipe 1 and to the flange 5 by a weld 7. The flange 5 is further fixed to the pipe by a weld 9, while the flange 2 is attached to pipe 1 by welding 8.
In the variant shown in FIG. 3, the frustoconical sleeve 4 connects to the flange 2 on the circle of the fixing bolts of the flange. Clearances 10 are made in the sleeve 4 to give passage to these bolts. These clearances are formed by notches cut in the sleeve, pieces of sheet metal 10 bent along cylinders having the same axes as the bolts being welded by their edges to the edges of these notches.
In a variant not shown, the frustoconical sleeve could be perforated; one could also replace this sleeve by separate irons, one end of which is fixed to the flange between the fixing bolts of the flange and the other of which is fixed to the wall of the pipe and to the reinforcing collar, these irons ensuring the same effect stiffening than the frustoconical sleeve.
In one embodiment of the flange having a flange disposed towards the inside of the hollow body and a frustoconical sleeve, this sleeve and the reinforcing glue can be placed in the same way as above, but also inside the sleeve. hollow body.
The elements of the flange could have come from fusion with the mantle of the hollow body, or could also be assembled together and with this mantle by riveting, by bolts or by screws.
In the case of a hollow body of non-circular section, the three elements of the flange will have a non-circular shape depending on the shape of the hollow body.
