La fia. 1 est une vue en plan d'une pre mière forme d'exécution; La fia. 2 est une coupe suivant la ligne 2-2 de la fia. 1; La fia. 3 est une coupe suivant la ligne 3-3 de la fia. 1; La fig. 4 montre, à plus petite échelle, une vue latérale ec l'ensemble représenté aux fia. 1, 2 et 3; La fia. 5 est une vue en plan d'une autre forme d'exécution; La fig. 6 est une coupe suivant la ligne 6-6 de la fia. 5; La fia. 7 est une coupe suivant la ligne 7-7 de la fia. 5; La fia. 8 montre une coupe analogue à celle représentée à la fia. 6 d'une variante de ce raccordement; La fia. 9 est une élévation latérale d'une autre forme d'exécution; La fia. 10 est une coupe suivant la ligne 10-10 de la fia. 9;
Connection of a branch pipe to a main pipe with a curvilinear straight section. This invention relates to a connection of a branch pipe to a main pipe of straight section curved line.
It is particularly intended to be applied when it comes to connections (pipes of cylindrical shape and circular cross section.
The main and branch line may either be the same size or the branch line may be smaller than the other, as is the case, for example, when a branch pipe small diameter is connected to a main pipe with a larger diameter, or when a drain pipe is connected to a main pipe subjected to high pressure.
The connection according to the invention could also be applied to vacuum pipes, and could in particular apply, for example, to pipes of a very large diameter.
The problem with fittings of the type mentioned results from the indentation of the wall of the main pipe at the right where the branch pipe is to be connected. The hole interrupts the continuity of the wall of the main pipe in the direction of the circumference, leaving in fact an open ring between two planes parallel to the axis of this pipe and tangent to the hole, the pressures being exerted by then the interior tending to open this ring, while the pressures acting from the exterior tend to close it. Nothing is intended to withstand these loads, except the adjacent metal of the unbroken rings of the. main pipe which are on both sides, which adjacent metal is thus subjected to excessive stresses.
The whole problem therefore consists in avoiding these excessive forces imposed on the metal of the main pipe beyond the planes perpendicular to the axis of this pipe and tangent to the hole and in supporting the open ring which is located between these planes.
Until now, it has been customary, for this purpose, to reinforce the edges of the metal around the orifice by applying, on the periphery of the latter, a metal ring of width and thickness. constant, welded, riveted or held in place in any other way and following the edges of this hole.
This way of reinforcing the wall of a perforated main pipe leads, first of all, to a waste of metal since the reinforcement has an overabundant section in areas where the tensions remain low.
In fact, it may very well be that in certain circumstances the effect produced by reinforcing rings is more detrimental than useful and that these rings weaken the construction by imposing new localized forces to which the metal does not. is not able to resist.
With the aim of overcoming these drawbacks, the connection according to the invention has a main pipe reinforced by at least a part following the surface of this main pipe and having, developed in a plane, the shape of a diamond. the major axis of which is perpendicular to the axis of the main pipe, the thickness of this part, measured perpendicular to the surface of the main pipe, increases progressively from the ends of the major axis of the rhombus to the ends of the minor axis of that -this.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of examples, several embodiments of the object of the invention.
The fia. 1 is a plan view of a first embodiment; The fia. 2 is a section taken along line 2-2 of the fia. 1; The fia. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of the fia. 1; Fig. 4 shows, on a smaller scale, a side view of the assembly shown in fia. 1, 2 and 3; The fia. 5 is a plan view of another embodiment; Fig. 6 is a section taken along line 6-6 of the fia. 5; The fia. 7 is a section taken along line 7-7 of the fia. 5; The fia. 8 shows a section similar to that shown in fia. 6 of a variant of this connection; The fia. 9 is a side elevation of another embodiment; The fia. 10 is a section taken along line 10-10 of the fia. 9;
The fia. 11 is a side elevation of a fourth embodiment; The fia. 12 is a plan from below of the connector shown at fia. 11; The fia. 13 shows a section similar to that shown in fia. \? of a variant; The fia. 14 and 15 show another embodiment.
In the first embodiment, the part is an added flange 6, 7, 8 and 9, applied to the main pipe 1 and brought into contact, at the location of its widest part A, B, with the sides of the branch pipe 3 to which it is welded to the autogenous weld, as shown, although this is not essential, because said flange can have all its effectiveness without being connected to the branch pipe 3 or even without touching this one. The flange, developed in a plane, has the shape of a diamond whose major axis is perpendicular to the axis of pipe 1.
The thickness of the flange, me surée perpendicular to the surface of the pipe 1, gradually increases from the ends 11 and 12 to the ends A and B. In the variant shown in the fia. 13, the reinforcing flange has its branches located on the same side of a plane passing through the axes of the pipes 1 and 3 joined together: by a spacer 30, respectively 31, welded to these branches and to the main pipe.
In the embodiment which is represented in fia. 5, 6 and 7, the reinforcing part is an attached flange formed of metal strips 16, 17, 18 each having the same thickness as that of the wall of the main pipe 19, applied with a field on this pipe and each welded separately to, this conduct, as indicated, _: cry 20, 21 and 22.
By using blades which are of the same thickness as the material from which the pipe 19 is made, there is less exposure to burning one or the other of the parts at the time of welding, since both are necessary. same welding heat. Ires internal blades 16 which are on each side are welded together by their ends at 23 and 24, so that the flange developed in a plane would have the shape of a rhombus. Whose major axis would be perpendicular to the axis of the pipe 19. The outer blades 17, 18 are successively shorter than the blades 16 and the width of each blade increases progressively from the end towards the middle. The outer blades 17, 18 could, for example, also be longer than the blades 16.
These blades 16 may or may not touch the branch pipe 14.
In the variant which is shown in FIG. 8, at the edge of the hole 25 of the main pipe, is welded the branch pipe 26 whose axis forms an angle other than a right angle with the axis of this pipe which is reinforced, in the same way as that shown in fig. 5 to 7, by a flange formed by metal blades 27, 28, 29, each of these blades being welded to the main duct, as shown at 30, 31 and 32.
According to the embodiment which is represented in FIGS. 9 and 10, the arrangement is the same as that which is described with reference to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, except that the axes of the pipes do not intersect. That is why we used the same benchmarks.
In fig. 11 and 12 show an embodiment of the connection having a branch pipe and a cylindrical main pipe and both of the same diameter. The notch in the main pipe is here relatively larger than in the other embodiments shown. Under these conditions, it is good for the arched diamond-shaped reinforcement piece to extend essentially all around the main duct. The reinforcing part of the main pipe 35 is constituted by an attached flange formed by the two elements 38 and 39 which do not touch the branch pipe 37 and extend around the pipe 35.
The corresponding ends of the members 38 and 39 are welded together and the ends of the flange thus formed are welded together by the weld 40 along a line parallel to the axis of the pipe 35.
Figs. 14 and 15 show another embodiment of the connection. While this construction can be applied to pipe connections of all sizes, it is particularly applicable to those where the branch pipe is the same size as the main pipe.
In the connection which is shown in fig. 14 and 15, a main pipe 35 connects to a branch pipe 41 of the same diameter as it. The main pipe is reinforced by a mounted rap flange formed by the blades 45 and 46 arranged on one side of the branch pipe 41, and similar blades 45 'and 46' arranged on the other side. These blades are field welded to the pipe 35. The corresponding ends of the blades 45 and 45 'are welded together at 47, while the corresponding ends of the blades 46, 46' cross each other and are welded at 48. The blades 45 , 45 ', 46 and 46' have the same thickness as the wall of pipe 35.
The flange thus formed, developed in a plane has, as in the preceding examples, the shape of a rhombus, the major axis of which is directed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the main pipe 35. In addition to the flange described, the connection according to fig. 14 and 15 further comprises auxiliary reinforcing blades 42, 43, 44, 42 ', 43' and 44 '. These auxiliary blades are not connected by their ends, like blades 45, 45 'and 46, 4G'. They are arranged on either side of the longitudinal axis of the flange and welded to the main pipe. Between the adjacent auxiliary blades are arranged spacers 49 and 50 welded to these blades.
These spacers are also arranged between the auxiliary blades 44, 44 'and the blades 45, 45' of the flange and welded to these blades. These spacers can also be welded to the body of the pipe 35. The auxiliary blades follow the shape of the contour of the flange and separate from each other at their ends. The spacers join them together at these ends.
The above connections are particularly applicable to large pipes, such as those used in some. constructions of dams or dikes in which the diameter of the main pipes can measure up to 9 meters with branch pipes of about 4.50 meters in diameter and even more.
It will be understood that the reinforcing part can be an attached flange, cast forged, formed of lamellae or parts welded by autogenous welding, or else this part can be manufactured with the main pipe itself.
It also goes without saying that the invention is applicable not only to the connections of pipes made of sheet steel, but also to the connections coming from foundry or reinforced concrete.
