Process and device for the production of decaffeinated coffee. The invention relates to a method for producing decaffeinated coffee by treating the solid coffee with an agent which dissolves the caffeine, characterized in that the extraction takes place in a device which has a container which is used to hold the coffee and is almost entirely filled with solvent from the bottom of which a pipe branches off, which opens again into the upper part of the vessel above the liquid level,
into which pipe compressed gas is introduced under pressure at a certain height, whereby a cycle of the solvent and the coffee is effected through the vessel and connecting pipe, the solid coffee being subject to a periodic pressure change.
The invention also provides a device for carrying out this procedural rens. Both whole and crushed coffee beans can be subjected to extraction.
If the extraction vessel is built so high and filled with the solvent in such a way that the liquid level is about 8 meters above the ground and methylene chloride is used as the solvent, the result is that the coffee beans are always in the lower part of the container under a round the pressure is one atmosphere higher than when it exits the connecting pipe.
Since there is gas in the coffee beans, these conditions mean that this gas is compressed to half its volume in the lower part of the container and thus solvent is pressed into the coffee beans. At the top, this gas expands into the coffee beans and presses out the previously absorbed and now caffeine-enriched amount of solvent.
As a result, processes and effects are achieved which accelerate and intensify the dissolving and bringing out of the caffeine from the coffee beans in the circulating flow of the solvent. In this process, the previously occurring adverse effect of the skins adhering to the coffee beans is avoided. So far the coffee has been more or less blotchy during the extraction, - mainly caused by these membranes.
Since these detach themselves from the coffee beans in the circulation flow and then float freely with them, this problem has been remedied.
The method and the device also create the possibility of protecting the coffee beans as well as the solvent during the extraction process from the action of the air by the circulation and expulsion of the solution by means of an inert gas, in particular nitrogen .
The function of the device used in the present process is based. based on the well-known principle of the mammoth pump. When introducing compressed gas, e.g. B. compressed air, in the said connecting pipe there is a mixture in the latter above the point of introduction of the gas, consisting of liquid and the injected gas. This mixture is specifically lighter than the liquid alone. There is thus a flow upwards. This current is. can be regulated by the compressed gas quantum and can be increased to such an extent that they are also specifically heavier solid bodies such as stones. entrains.
All organic solvents in which caffeine dissolves can be used as solvents.
The Y advantages of this method arrd the facility are the following: The economy is significantly greater than with the known methods, because the performance is increased by the more intensive and faster extraction; because there is less wear and tear on the system than with rotating extractors, there are no leaks in the stuffing boxes and the loss of solvents is significantly reduced.
When using gasoline, benzene or similar solvents, no explosive mixture can form, which can be caused to explode as before by admixtures such as stones or iron parts. It is therefore no longer necessary to build the extractor from non-sparking material to prevent explosions.
Another big step forward is that the coffee beans retain their color and are no longer stained or burned on the flat side during extraction. Furthermore, the aromatic components in the coffee beans remain unchanged.
The drawing shows a device (so-called mammoth solver) that can be used for executing the process.

<tb> 19 <SEP> drain line.
<tb> 20 <SEP> suction line. In the following, using the drawing an. exemplary embodiment of the method is described: The sieve grate 4 initially rests horizontally. The shut-off devices 18b, 18c and 12 are closed, 8 is open.
Now the pre-treated in a known manner coffee beans are poured through the manhole 6 on the grate 4 in the Behäl ter 1 of the mammoth solver. The release is then tightly closed and evacuated by means of a vacuum pump or the compressor 9. Now the stick is allowed to flow into the release through port 13 until a slight overpressure is created. The solvent is then added through the connection 13, the excess gas escaping.
The filling takes place up to about the edge of the defluter, so a little below the upper edge of the order pipe 2 in the solver.
When the gas compressor 9 is started up, gas is now pressed into the compressed gas chamber 3. This gas rises in the circulation pipe 2. This reduces the specific weight of the filling in the circulation pipe 2 above the compressed gas chamber. Therefore, the solvent presses from the bottom of the container 1 to the compressed gas chamber 3, and a circulation flow is created. This is Gestei Gert by increasing the gas supply until it hits against the baffle cover 5 in the desired strength. Now the grate 4 can be raised slowly until it reaches the vertical position.
As a result, the coffee beans slowly sink down and are torn up by the strong flow of solvent in the riser pipe 2 until they start the cycle again in the defluter by slowly sinking in the solvent and then being torn up again by the circulation flow.
When the extraction is finished, the compressor is switched off, the shut-off devices 8 and 18a are closed and 18b and 18c are opened.
Then. the jacket of the solver is heated.
The compressor is switched on again and now sucks the gas with the solvent vapors via the cooler 15 through the absorber 16. Here the solvents remain and the gas is transported by the compressor through the air heater under the grate 4 into the container 1 pressed. Here it strokes through the coffee beans, saturates itself with the solvent vapors, which then as above. get through the cooler into the absorber.
The removal of the solvent can be carried out just as well under reduced pressure as with overpressure.
Finally, the last traces of the solvent are extracted with steam by means of the steam chatter snake 11 and then the coffee beans are removed through the door 7 from the solver.
