Le dispositif cisailleur est formé,de ,deux groupes analogues d'éléments disposés de part et d'autre de la boîte 1 et 2 et ,destinés l'un, à .couper l'extrémité du fil maintenu dans la pince 13r--14, l'autre à séparer le fil utilisé pour le cerclage du fil qui reste sur la, bobine -d'alimentation. Chacun: de ces @groupes comprend une plaque;
Strapping machine. The invention relates to a strapping machine, for example boxes or other objects.
In known machines of this type, the free end of the wire is retained in a clamp or the like, necessary for the tensioning. To release the machine after strapping, it is necessary either to release the free end of the clamp, which represents a waste of time and raises difficulties, or to cut off the free end between the ligature and the clamp, which results in a loss of wire and leaves the need to release from the clamp or other the length of wire thus lost.
On the other hand, the operation of the twist pinion requires a manual force applied to the control lever. For a given number of turns of the ligature, it is therefore advantageous to give the lever the greatest possible stroke, -and to use completely the 180 of rotation which are allowed to it in the driving of the twist pinion by means of a dbntée wheel, the number of teeth of which is an integer multiple of that of the rotating pinion,
and provide in its half-rotation the exact number of turns that one wishes of the twist pinion. Now, independently of any over-twist which it is however necessary to communicate to the twist pinion to compensate for the reaction of the ligature, this travel of the lever cannot significantly exceed l80 in practice,
since the ends of the lever would then come up against the end of travel on the wall @de the body on which the machine is placed, taking into account the thickness of the fingers of the operator's hand who grasps the lever. But this angular stroke of which to be further reduced -de that necessary for the .surorsion, so that in practice it falls at an angle clearly less than 180.
A preferred embodiment of the machine according to the invention, and which will be described later, aims to remedy this drawback.
The strapping machine forming the object of the invention is characterized in that the free end of the wire is retained in a pliers .soli daire of an ejector lever movable around a vertical axis and urged by a spring against a stop of the frame, in a position in which the clamp is remote from a twist gear, the tension of the wire having the effect of bringing the gripper close to a knife adjacent to the twist gear against the action of said spring, which projects the lever against the stopper,
as soon as the free end is cut off by the knife, to produce the automatic ejection of this free strand by the impact of the levie on the stop and the inertia of the free end.
In addition to the automatic ejection effect, which makes it possible: to increase the flow -of the machine, this arrangement makes it possible to reduce the loss of yarn, since the length of the free end lost is reduced to. short distance separating the clamp from the knife in the tension position, while the spread position of the , clamp at rest facilitates the introduction of the thread into the clamp.
On the other hand, the placement of the wire around the body is carried out under a slight tension, favorable to. correct positioning, and preventing untimely release of the end of the wire from the clamp, thanks to the elastic return effect of the ejector spring.
The accompanying drawing represents, â. by way of example, an embodiment of the strapping machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the machine.
Fig. \? is an elevation view, prays from the left of the fib. 1.
Fig. 3 shows in plan the detail of one, pliers tightening the free end of the wire.
The strapping machine has four main devices: a clamp intended for. tighten and hold fixedly the free end of the wire which will form the ligature, a positive tensioning device intended to stretch the wire which has been passed around the box or other package to be strapped, a twisting device intended to unite and twisting between them the free end of the wire and the last section of wire used to strap the packages,

A spring 36, respectively 36a, is inserted between the jaw and its support and another spring 37, respectively 37a, pushes the jaw holder 32, respectively 32a, towards the clamping position. A lever 38, pivoting on the part 27, is provided with a lug 39 engaging in a notch 40 of the movable support 30, die so that this lever 38 can communicate to the support 30 back and forth movements along. of the rod 28. A spring 41, acting on the lever 38, tends to push the mobile support 30 towards its extreme position furthest from the fixed support 29.
The jaw holder 32 is provided with an extension 32b serving as a lever to move the jaw 34 away from the plate 35 against the action of the spring 37, and a stop 42, fixed on the part 27, is disposed on the path of the jaw holder 32a., so that this jaw holder 32a is spaced from the plate 35a when the support 30 is in its extreme position furthest from the support 29.
A cleat 43 is mounted on the jaw holder 32, in order to prevent the wire inserted between the jaw 34 and the plate 35 from moving away from the support 29 in the transverse direction.
The twisting device comprises a shaft 44 rotatably mounted in net cushions formed in the flanges 1 and 2. This shaft is integral with a pinion 47 meshing with another pinion 48 rotatably mounted in the box 1 and 2, and this pinion 48 meshes with a toothed wheel 49 carried freely on a shaft 50 rotatably mounted in the box 1 and 2.
A lever 51, mounted on the shaft 50, can perform reciprocating movements around the shaft 50, these movements possibly having an amplitude of a little more than 180, thanks to the given raised position. , to the shaft 50 due to the intercalation of the pinion 48.
This lever 51 carries a pawl subjected to the action of a spring and able to engage in one. Or the other of two diametrically opposed notches 55 formed in a disc 57 fixed on the shaft 50 and solid. , daris6 with wheel 49.
As the lever 51 is moved back and forth, the pawl slides on the disc 57 and releases the notch it had engaged in and engages the second notch at the end of the movement.
When the lever is moved back and forth, the pawl drives the disc 57 with the wheel 49, and consequently the pinions 48 and 47 also rotate, the numbers of teeth of the different wheels being chosen such that , for a 4emi-revolution of the wheel 49, the pinion 47 performs an integer number of revolution.
A lock 58, requested by a. spring, can engage in one or the other of two diametrically opposed notches 59 and 60 formed in a cam 61 provided on one of the faces of the wheel 49, in order to: lock this wheel 49 in its two positions extreme conditions.
The twist gear 47 and the shaft 44 are split longitudinally at 62, so as to allow the free end of the wire and the last portion of the wire used to hoop the box or other package to be introduced into the slit thus formed. The two flanges 1 and 2 are also puuvus slots, horizontal 63 and 64, in order -de to allow the introduction of the wire portions into the slot 62.
The shearing device is formed of two similar groups of elements arranged on either side of the box 1 and 2 and, one intended, to cut the end of the wire held in the clamp 13r - 14 , the other to separate the wire used for the strapping of the wire which remains on the, spool -d'infeed. Each: of these @groups includes a plaque;
guide 65, respectively 66, fixed to the frame of the machine and a knife 67, respectively 68, can pivot on this frame and .maintained by a spring in the rest position. Shoulders 69 and 70, provided at the ends of the shaft 50, lower the knives 67 and 69 at the end of the. back and forth stroke of lever 51.
To strap a box or other package, the machine is placed on the package and the free end of the strapping wire, preferably of oval or oblong section, is inserted between the jaw 13 and the pin 14. We then do pass the thread through the slot of the guide 65, into the slot 62, into the slot of the guide 66. below the jaws 34 and 34a, around the package, then the thread is brought back into the slot of the guide 65, into the slot of the pinion 47, in the slot of the guide 66, and finally between the jaws 34 and 34a. and plates 35 and 35.
By printing several back and forth movements on the lever 38, the thread is stretched around the package. The lever is then rotated: i 1 from back to front., So as to engage the pawl in one of the notches of the disc 57; then the lever 51 is brought back from front to back , which turns the wheels 49, 48 and. 47, so that the two strands of wire located in the slot 62 are twisted together and firmly united to one another. Thanks to the elevation of the shaft 50, it is possible to give a.11 wire an over-twist, as mentioned above.
At the end of the travel of the lever 51, the knives 67 and 68 are lowered by the shoulders 69 and 70 and cut the wire, on the one hand, between the clamp 13-14 and the guide 65 and, on the other hand , between the guide 66 and the wire strand coming from the. supply coil.
When the thread is cut between the clamp 13-14 and the guide 65, the end of the thread which is between the jaw L-) and the go oujon 14 is no longer clamped between these two parts and, moreover, the spring 8 abruptly separates the yoke 6 from the box 1-2, so that.
the end of wire which was between the jaw 7.3 and the stud 14 is ejected automatically.
