Device for cooling the cylinder insert of internal combustion engines. In the known designs of internal combustion engines, the space between tween the cylinder jacket and the cylinder insert is flooded with coolant to cool the cylinder insert. With highly loaded engines you are forced to increase the speed of the coolant as possible in order to increase the cooling of the cylinder insert. This amplification of the cooling effect is to be achieved according to the present invention in that the coolant flow for the cylinder insert is guided through this and an intermediate jacket inserted between it and the cylinder jacket at a distance from the two.
In the drawing, a known execution of the cooling device and Ausfüh approximately examples of the device according to the invention are shown, namely show: Fig. 1 the embodiment of a known type in section, Fig. 2 a device according to the invention in section, Fig. 3 and 4 details of FIGS. 2 and 5 show a variant of the device. According to Fig. 1, a space 3 is present between the cylinder insert 1 and the cylinder jacket 2 through which the coolant flows in the direction of the arrows 4.
According to Fig. 2, a Zwischenman tel 6 is installed between the cylinder jacket 2 and the cylinder insert 1 at a distance from the two, the z. B. consists of sheet metal and at 7 and 8 is connected to the cylinder insert 1 at both ends in a liquid-tight manner. According to Fig. 3, this connection of the upper end of the intermediate jacket with the cylinder insert is accomplished by welding. The coolant enters the space 10 between the intermediate jacket 6 and the cylinder insert 1 in the direction of the arrow at 9 and leaves the same through bores in the collar 11 of the insert in the direction of the arrow 12.
It is easy to see that in this way the cross section for the flow of the coolant can be brought to a minimum and the cooling effect can be brought to a maximum as a result of the greater flow speed.
At 13 the intermediate jacket is corrugated. This makes the intermediate jacket easier. to follow the thermal expansion of the cylinder insert. According to FIG. 4, the sealing of the intermediate jacket 6 with respect to the cylinder insert can also be achieved by a special retaining ring 15 and a rubber sealing ring 16.
Since it is very practical that the running surface of the cylinder insert 1. has approximately the same temperature over its entire length, a stronger cooling effect is expediently provided at the points of greater heat incidence. This can be achieved in that the space between the intermediate jacket 6 and the insert 1 gradually narrows towards the combustion chamber, as FIG. 2 shows, after which the diameter D 1 is smaller than the diameter D 2 .
For practical reasons, the sheet metal jacket 6 is as simple as possible for this purpose, so z. B. give the shape of a truncated cone jacket. By increasing the wall thickness of the insert respectively. Conical shape of the outside 11 of the insert 1 in the vicinity of the seat of the insert in the cylinder jacket, as FIG. 5 shows, the effect of the conical intermediate jacket can be increased even further.
