Il est évident que cette manivelle doit effectuer, au cours de chaque ,nomhrage", une révolution-complète, afin de ramener le revolver toujours- dans la même position die travail. En général, cette mani velle est montée,directement sur l'arbre de la roue de commande -die la croix de Malte, de sorte que cette roue de commande doit effec tuer une révolution: complète au cours de cha que ;
Locking device of an automatic lathe tool-holder revolver. Automatic lathes: are generally provided with a rotating revolver which carries, fixed on its periphery, the tools necessary for the successive operations required by the machining of a part.
Generally speaking, these revolvers are planned. to receive six different tools whose housings are placed at 60 'from the others.
The passage from one tool to another, called the, counting "by those skilled in the art, is -commanded by a Maltese cross fixed on the rear end -of the axis of the head -of the revolver. This cross: of Malta is actuated by a pout with ankles.
A rotation of 120 'of this wheel is sufficient to move the head of the revolver by 60', that is to say to perform the counting.
However, as it is generally necessary -to remove the revolver from its -working position in order to be able to carry out the counting, the revolver is generally mounted on a slide: water whose translation is controlled by a unit. -crank .mechanically linked to the wheel carrying the pegs:
It is obvious that this crank must perform, during each, nomhrage, a complete revolution, in order to bring the revolver always- in the same working position. In general, this crank is mounted directly on the shaft. of the control wheel - the Maltese cross, so that this control wheel must make one revolution: complete during each;
counting ", and can only accommodate one pin. Switching from one tool to another is then carried out as follows: during the first 120 'of the wheel, the crank withdraws the revolver, then, - during the next 120, the ankle engaged -in a groove of the Maltese cross turns the revolver die 60 ', then, during the last 120, the handle puts the revolver back in working position.
This construction allows absolutely safe operation by means of a very simple mechanism. In fact, in order to operate the slide by means of the crank,
it suffices die reliëm by a lever to the rack of the slide provided for controlling the advance of the tool. This rack is generally engaged with a toothed sector por as an arm whose end is pushed by springs against a cam controlling the advancement of the revolver.
Thus, it suffices to provide sufficiently strong springs to keep this lever in contact with its cam, so as to immobilize the sector and its creation, to obtain a rapid movement of the slide during the rotation of the my level, and a slow movement controlled by the cam to advance the tool.
When the revolver is: heavy, and the movement controlled by the crank is very fast, it is obvious that it is not possible to keep the rack completely stationary, but this does not play any role, provided that the springs bring the end of the lever back into contact with its cam before the revolver arrives in the working position.
It -is obvious that-. If it is desired to perform precise work, it is advantageous to provide means fixing during 'the duration of a machining operation, the angular positions of the head -du revolver, on the one hand , and the working position -du revolver, on the other hand, that is to say the angular position of the crank.
The object of the present invention is a locking device for an automatic lathe tool-holder revolver executing a rotational movement to bring one or other of the tools attached to its periphery in front of the machine. workpiece, and a translational movement parallel to .the axis of the spindle .of the lathe,
the rotational movement being commanded by a Maltese cross and a bolt being provided to fix the angular positions of the head of the revolver, the translational movement being controlled by a crank mechanically connected, on the one hand, to the control wheel of the Maltese Cross and, on the other hand,
to the rack and to the toothed segment for actuating the slide carrying the revolver. This device is distinguished from known positive devices by the fact that it comprises a second lock fixing the angular position of the crank corresponding to the working position of the pistol-holder slide.
The annexed drawing shows, schematically and by way of -d'example, one embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional view thereof.
Fig. 2 in. Is a perspective view, with parts broken away.
A slide 1 carries a rotating revolver head 2 as well as all the components necessary for its control. The head of the revolver is carried by a pin 3 housed in a bearing provided in the slide. This shaft 3 carries at its opposite end a plate 4 provided with six radial grooves 5 forming between them 4th angles of 60.
A wheel 6, fixed to one of the ends of a shaft 7 pivoted in a bearing 8 provided in the coulisiseau, is controlled in rotation by a train of gears 9, 10, 11, 12, 14. The gear 14 is constituted by a splined roller, pivoted by its ends, in bearings 16 and 17, provided in the slide 1.
This gear 14 engages with another pivoted gear 18 on the frame of the lathe (not shown).
The wheel 6 carries a pin 15 arranged in relation to the plate 4 so as to engage in the grooves 5 and move the plate by an increase of 60 for a displacement of. 12-0 of the gear 9 .
A cam 19, mounted @sur the gear 9, actuates a .levier 20 by means of a finger 21 kept pressed on the profile of the cam 19 by a spring 22. This lever, pivoted at 20a on the slide, in turn actuates a bolt 23 which fixes the angular positions of the head of the revolver.
This lock 23 is eans- tn.tu6 by a sliding finger in a housing 24 rpriatiqué in the slide 1 and .whose end engages Jans dhes recesses 25 provided in the head -du revolver.
This finger 23 is subjected to the action of the spring 22 which tends to press its end: against the rear face of the head -du revolver.
The profile of the cam 19 and its setting relative to the ankle 15 are chosen so that the finger 23 is released during the counting "of the revolver, and engaged as soon as a tool (not shown) frozen at its periphery at 26 arrives in front of the workpiece to be machined.
It follows that the active angular length of this cam 19 must be shorter than the angle & rotation of the wheel necessary for controlling the Maltese cross, but longer than the angle of rotation of the wheel during which the first peg engages the Maltese cross.
The whole slide is actuated -in a translational movement parallel to the axis of the spindle -of the even turn a crank 27 fixed on, the shaft pointing the wheel 6. This .crank 27 is mechanically connected to a rack 28 by a connecting rod 29.
This rack, controlling the advancement of the revolver 26, like the slides of known revolvers, is engaged with a toothed sector (not shown) carrying an arm subjected to the action, springs (not shown) tending to keep its end in contact with the profile of a control cam.
In order to fix the position of the crank 27, a lock is provided which exactly determines the relative position of the slider 1 with respect to its control rack 28.
This lock -is constituted by a. needle 30 subjected to the action of a spring 31 which tends to cause it to emerge from a housing 32, arranged in the slide 1.
The projection formed by the needle 30 emerging from its housing 32 is limited by an annular shoulder 33 formed on the entrance to the housing, and the inside diameter of which is smaller than the larger diameter of the needle 30.
The operation: of the -device is as follows: when the wheel 6 is actuated by), its gear 9, the crank 27 executing a rotational movement moves the bucket slide 1 relative to its control rack 28, the sector of which - toothed, in engagement with it, is subjected to the action of springs tending i to keep it motionless.
On the other hand, the cam 19 pushes back the finger 21, the lever 20 pivots on its axis and removes the latch 23 in the unlocked position. After a full rotation of 120 of the wheel, the pin 15 enters the plain groove 5 and activates the revol ver.
After a new rotation! Of 120 of the wheel 6, the counting "is finished, the revol ver has been moved by 60. And the crank 27 controls during the last 120 of its revolution the return of the slide to its position. primitive sition As soon as the crank arrives in its primitive position, the needle 30 engages,
in a conical recess 34, formed in the crank 27, and fixed, its angular position and, consequently, the exact relative position of the slide with respect to its control rack 28 during the duration of the machining operation .
This lock, consisting of a needle valve to engage in a conical recess provided in the .crank, also has the advantage of automatically bringing the, my level in its. exact angular position. In fact, as soon as the point: of the needle is engaged on the edge of the conical wall of the hollow, the thrust exerted by the spring forces the crank:
to come into its exact locking position.
In the case where, for example; only three tools are necessary for the machining of a part, they are then placed, preferably at an angle of 120 with respect to each other, always Jaissant between each -two a place -ville. . .
Thus, by placing two pins at 120 from each other on the wheel 6, it is possible to move the head idu revolver by 120 during a single revolution. : wheel 6, which saves time by avoiding unnecessary movements.
It is obvious that, in this case, it is necessary, to replace the cam 19 by a cam keeping the finger 28 in the disengaged position until the moment when the second pin 15 is engaged & n55 the groove. 5 and has already moved the head of the revolver,
a sufficient amount so that the finger 23 does not risk engaging in the recess # ment @ & u revolver to which corresponds: a tool location 26 used. In addition, a rotation, of 240:
since the wheel 6 is necessary to move the head of the revolver by 120, it is advantageous to wedge the pegs 15 on the wheel 6 with respect to its locked position:
so that the first peg comes into engagement with its groove 5 already after a rotation of 60. Thus, the, counting "is finished after a rotation of 300 of the wheel 6, so that the revolver arrives in the working position being locked in its angular position, as in the previous case.
