Protection device against bad weather for open carts. The present invention relates to a positive device for protection against bad weather for open carts.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a removable foldable cap carried by at least one hinged hoop at the rear of the bodywork and a windshield comprising a frame having at its upper part means cooperating with the front end of the convertible top in order to tighten it.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, several forms. execution of the device according to the invention.

The cyclecar shown in fi-. 1 to 4 is a lightweight two-seater pedal-powered or low-power motor type with aerodynamically streamlined bodywork. Protection against bad weather is provided by a windscreen and a hood, both completely removable.
The windshield consists mainly of a plate 1 (fig. 5 and 6) of glass or transparent plastic (cellulose derivatives, artificial resins, etc.). This plate rests against two supports 2 fixed on the sides of the body 3. It is secured in retaining notches 4 provided at the bottom of the supports 2 and it is also clamped at its upper edge by clamps of any type suitable, for example and .as shown, by hooks 5 articulated at 6 to the supports 2 and locked in position by clamping screws 7.
The seal between the body 3 'and the bottom of the transparent plate 1 is obtained by a gasket 8 (fig. 5) of rubber or ana lobe, clamped in a strip 9 of light metal or other, itself engaged in stationary position on the lower edge of the plate 1.
As the seal 8 may be insufficient in the event of heavy rain, the edge of the bodywork 3 in front of the seats bears a projecting rim 10 (FIG. 5) fixed in place in a sealed manner and forming a water return. The water which may have filtered under the gasket 8 is stopped by the flange 10 and flows down the sides of the body 3. The flange 10 may, as shown, be the folded-down top edge of the vehicle dashboard. It is understood that it is easy to remove the plate 1 then, by removing the fixing bolts 11 (fig. 6), to dismantle the side supports 2.
As in general the spacing of the supports 2 is too great to ensure the rigidity of the plate 1, they are joined by a cross member 12 (fig. 9) with which they are joined so as to constitute a frame of sufficient rigidity. . The crossmember 12 can be iélescopic to reduce the size of the frame in the folded state.
Once the windshield has been removed, we can put in front of each occupant a small individual windshield 13 (fig. 7) made of a transparent plate, the support 14 of which is articulated at 15 to a bar 16 filled with a bead 17 of rubber or the like which is wedged under the rim 10. The articulation 15 is blocked in the desired orientation. In the simplified embodiments, the joint 15 can be omitted.
The hood 18 (fig. 1 and 2) is carried by two arches 19 (fig. 9) articulated on pivots 20 removably fixed to the bodywork 3 ,, or even on which the zircons 19 are removably retained. .
The rear of the hood 16 is attached elastically to the bodywork 3 by a rubber 21 (fig. 8) stretched in zigzag fashion between hooks 22 secured to the bodywork and hooks 23 secured to the hood, and arranged, of course, a little above the lower edge thereof, edge which comes to bear by itself against the edges of the body series.
Of course, instead of rubber, a long metal spring or a series of short springs can be used. The hooks 23 can, on the other hand, be replaced by rings in which the rubber or spring has passed remains.
The front of the hood is attached to the windshield by any suitable means. In the example shown in FIG. 5 and 6, the hood is secured to a bar 24 which is caught under the pivoting hooks 5. To facilitate access to the vehicle seats, the seats 25 can be raised, as is clearly understood by the comparison of the threads. -. 1 and 3. In addition, the tube or axis 2'6 of the steering wheel is articulated so as to allow the steering wheel 27 to be erased.
Finally, the upper part of the top can be opened, which can be obtained either simply by a closed longitudinal slot., For example, by a closure. With sliding elements, or, better, by releasing a side panel 18 '(Fig. 4 and 3), the closure being preferably obtained by sliding elements, as in the first case.
The previous arrangements allow easy entry into the vehicle without having to. bend down excessively.
Like the windshield, the hood can be completely dismantled, the hoops 19 also being able to be telescopic in their transverse part to allow them to be accommodated without difficulty in the box.
Figs. 10 to 14 show a variant of the system for attaching the hood to the windshield.
In fig. 10 and 11, the front edge of the convertible top 1.8 is integral with a removable transverse bar 24a, the section of which is rounded, on which it can roll at a certain angle, as clearly shown. fi-. 10. This bar 24a is provided at its -deux ends with yokes 5a: one branch of which extends so as to form a hooking lever 5b. On the other hand, the two supports 2 of the windshield glass 1 are joined by an upper cross member at the ends of .laquelle journals 6a pivot, in which are cut parallel flat parts 30 (fi- * 10 to 1.4 ) suitable for receiving screeds 5a.
Finally, the bar 24a is fitted with a seal 24b disposed so as to come to rest against the. ice cream 1 (fig. 10).
To put the hood in place, the pins 6a are oriented with their flat parts 30 vertical (position of FIG. 11) and the heads 5a are threaded on them. Then, by levers 5b; the latter are rotated so as to wind the top 18 on the bar 24a by about a quarter turn, in the example shown. A suitable mechanism, described below, locks the journals 6a in this position so that the hood is thus firmly fixed in the extended position.
To remove the convertible top, release the locking mechanism and proceed in the reverse order.
The locking mechanism is preferably of the type detailed in fig. 12 to 14. It comprises a socket 31 permanently fixed i in the upper tubular cross member 12 of the windshield by a transverse rivet 3.2, said socket comprising two L-shaped openings 33 (fig. 14) with a long branch. tudinal and a branch embracing at a certain angle in a transverse plane. Inside this fixed bush can rotate the journal 6a (fig. 12 -and 13), which is tubular and is provided with a head in which the flat parts 30 are cut, this journal also being provided with two longitudinal lights.
Finally, inside the journal 6a is threaded a pusher 3.5 provided with a transverse pin 36 passing through the lights 34 and 3-3. This pusher is provided with an outer actuating head 37 and it is pushed back by a compression spring 38 inserted between its inner end and the corresponding end of the journal 6a.
Starting from the position of fig. 12, that is to say the pin 36 engaged at the bottom of the longitudinal part of the slots 3: 3, it is understood that by pressing on the head 37 it is possible to bring said pin H to the right of the transverse part of these same lights 313, which makes it possible to rotate the assembly of the journal 6a and the pusher 35 at an angle of about 90 in the direction of the needles of a watch for an observer located in front of the head 37.
The grooves 30, which were horizontal, thus become vertical, which corresponds to the position of FIG. 11. If, after having hooked the convertible top by the yokes 5a, the assembly is rotated in the opposite direction 90; the pin 36 is again located to the right of the longitudinal part of the slots 33 and fully engages there under the action of the spring 38, thus locking the mechanism.
It will be understood without further explanation that in order to remove the hood it is sufficient to press the head 317 of the pusher 35.
In the case of a V, shaped windscreen, the provisions shown in fi, - are preferably applied. 15 to 18. The windshield consists of two panes 1a and 1b carried by a frame 2 with an angled upper cross member 12c carrying at the angle of the V a lug 12b arranged inwards, said lug being integral with a central upright 2b constituting the edge of the dihedral formed by the two glasses la and lb.
On the other hand, the front part 18a of the hood 18 is integral with a removable angled transverse bar 24e provided with an interior operating handle 3.9, said bar comprising, as in the previous case, yokes 5a. 5b. The crossmember 1'2a is provided at its ends with fixed journals 6 arranged in the axis of one another and perfectly cylindrical, as shown in fi-. 16.
Also in this case, the yokes 5a are engaged on the journals 6 and they are rotated by the levers 5b (or better by pulling the handle 39 down from the inside), which tends the hood. When the 24th bar came into contact with the. crossmember 12a, the assembly is held by a locking mechanism which is preferably of the type detailed in FIGS. 17 and 18.
In the device shown, the transverse bar 2'4c is provided with a conical pin 40 arranged so as to come through a corresponding bore provided in the lug 12b. The part of the stud 40 which passes beyond the thickness of said ear is notched with a groove 41, in which a solid elastic blade 42 engages, in the example shown, of the intermediate upright 2b. It is understood that when the stud 40 is fully threaded into the ear 12b, that is to say when the bar 24e is in place on the cross member 12a,
the spring 42 engages the parts and holds them against the reaction of the top wound on the bar 2'4c. To remove the top, it suffices to remove the spring 42 by hand, which frees the stud 40 which emerges by itself or by means of a slight push on the handle 39.
