Description

Process for preparing the sodium salt of N-methylsulfaminomethylsulfonic acid. It has been found that the action of alkali metal formaldehyde sulfoxylate on aliphatic sulfamides leads to water-soluble products. The aliphatic aminosulfic acid salts obtainable in this way are said to be used in the textile finishing industry.

In the case of water-soluble sulfamides, the preparation is conveniently carried out by evaporating the aqueous solutions of both components; in the case of water-insoluble sulfamides, you can work in the melt or in the presence of organic agents, the removal of the water being azeotroped.

The derivatives and substitution products of the aliphatic sulfamides can also be converted in the same way. The reaction can be carried out with sulfamides of any origin, so it does not matter whether the sulfochlorides on which the amides are based were obtained from the sulfonic acids or directly from the hydrocarbons concerned or their mixtures, for example by means of sulfuric acid and chlorine .

The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of the sodium salt of N-methylsulfaminomethylsulfinic acid, which is characterized in that methylsulfamide is reacted with sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate.

Example: 95 parts of methyl sulfamide and 154 parts of sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate are dissolved in the required amount of water and evaporated to dryness. As a previously unknown product, the sodium salt of N-methylsulfaminomethylsulfinic acid is obtained in theoretical amounts. It is a colorless powder that is very easily soluble in water and is intended to be used as an intermediate in the manufacture of textile auxiliaries.

This is because it allows you to condense, for example, with higher alkyl chlorides to form compounds that can be used in the textile industry for the finishing of textile goods.
