Door support and guide device. The present invention relates to a door support and guide device, this door possibly being, for example, a vehicle door such as a tram or a bus.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a vertical rotating shaft carrying two horizontal arms, the upper arm carrying members supporting the entire weight of the door, in such a way that the latter can pivot about a vertical axis. separate from that of the vertical shaft and the lower arm having a pivot coming into engagement with the door to guide its distinct pivoting movement, a mechanism causing the separate pivoting movement of the door as soon as the assembly of the shaft and arms pivot around the axis of this shaft.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view partially cut away of this support and guide device; Fig. 2 is a side view, with partial arachting, of the same device, looking at the front edge of the door.
The device shown comprises a vertical shaft 2 which can turn in bearings (not shown) supported by frame elements 1, 3 and 15 (fig. 2) which, in the case of a tram, for example, would be integral part of the car chassis. Bearings suitable for supporting shafts of this type are well known to the technician, who is also familiar with numerous devices enabling a shaft of this type to be connected to a mechanism, such as a pressurized fluid motor, for rotate it. An arm 4 is fixed to the shaft 2, near its upper end, using a pin 5.
Similarly, an arm 6 is fixed to the shaft 2, near its lower end, by a pin 7. The drawings show parts of the upper and lower ends of the door 8. On the upper edge of the door is fixed thereto a square-shaped plate comprising a vertical branch 9 and a horizontal branch 10, the latter being placed at the upper part. The door is cut so that this square is flush with the side face and the upper edge of the door, as can be seen in FIG. 2. This bracket is fixed. to the door using screws 11.
To the horizontal branch 10 of the square is secured a vertical pivot 12 which passes through the arm 4 and a housing 14 fixed to this arm. A retaining nut 13 is screwed onto the upper end of the pivot 12. The housing 14 contains a thrust bearing (the details of which have not been shown) through which, when the nut 13 has been fitted, the whole weight of the door is. supported by the arm 4 via the bearing and its housing. At the lower edge of the door is arranged, along the same vertical axis as the pivot 12, a sleeve 17 adjusting. in a recess of the door and fixed to a plate 18 which is embedded in a notch cut in the lower edge of the door and fixed to the latter.
In the socket 17 is engaged a pivot 16 fixed to the lower arm 6. As can be seen from the drawings, the entire weight of the door is supported by a thrust bearing housed in the housing 14, the lower pivot 16 not supporting any part of the door. this weight and serves only as a pivot guide for the door. The common vertical axis of the pivots 12 and 16 passes through the middle of the transverse dimension of the door.
Fig. 2 shows the door in the closed position, its upper edge pressing against a flange 22 of the door frame and which would constitute part of the vehicle body. An elastic buffer 23 is wedged between the rim 22 and the door.
On the inner face of the door is fixed, at the upper and outer edge, a console 19 on which is rotatably mounted a roller 20 engaged in a guiding track formed by two angles 21 fixed to the part 1. The east lane. parallel to the plane of the door when the latter is closed. This mechanism works as follows: When the shaft 2 receives a rotational movement communicated to it by a control motor in the levorotatory direction (keeping the shaft from top to bottom in fig. 1), the arms 4 and 6 rotating with this shaft while entering the body of the vehicle until they come to occupy a position perpendicular to the door opening.
During this movement of the arms, the door 8 of course pivots with them, but, due to the engagement of the roller 20 in the track 21, it is at the same time forced to pivot in the dextrorotatory direction (looking up and down fig. 1) around the common vertical axis of the pivots 12 and 16. At the moment when the arms 4 and 6 have come at right angles to the opening, the door itself has rotated 180 by relative to the arms, so that it is again in the plane of the arms of the door and at right angles to the opening.
The pivoting movement of the door causes the left end (fig. 1) to pivot inside the car, while the right end is placed near the opening on the side. left. In the reverse movement of the shaft 2, the reverse action occurs, so that when the arms 4 and 6 have returned to the closed position of the door and are parallel to the opening, the door has rotated in the opposite direction to close said opening as shown in the drawings.
In addition to the mechanical simplicity of the construction described, this has the important advantage that the entire weight of the door is supported by the upper arm through the thrust bearing disposed in the housing 14, which reduces at least the motive force necessary to operate the device. Another advantage of the construction described is that it is possible to seal the housing 14, so as to prevent the penetration of moisture and thus eliminate the risk of corrosion at this location.
