Reproductive mechanism of profiles. The main patent relates to a mechanism for reproducing profiles, comprising a profiled member and a device which presses by a roller on this member and which, by means of a tool, generates the profile of the workpiece in dependence on that of said member. or gane.
In mechanisms of this kind, the tool (generally a diamond point> has a predetermined shape in relation to the characteristics of the mechanism which causes it to describe the desired trajectory to give the desired profile to the workpiece. , after a certain time, the shape of this tool changes by wear, on contact with the workpiece, and is no longer in the desired relationship with the mechanism which must lead it along a determined path As a result, the profile of the workpiece will become incorrect and, to restore it, the worn tool will have to be replaced, which is expensive.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback. It relates to. a profile reproducing mechanism according to the claim of the main patent, the tool of which is shaped so as to have an axis, characterized in that it has means making it possible to produce wear of the tool, symmetrical with respect to to the axis of it.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of examples and schematically, two embodiments of the subject of the present invention.
Figs. 1 to 5 relate to the first embodiment. Fig. 1 is a general schematic view; fig. 2 is a detail on a larger scale. Figs. 3, 4 and 5 illustrate its operation.
Fig. 6 is a general schematic view of the second embodiment.
The first embodiment comprises a frame 1 supporting a jig 2. On it can roll the roller 12 supported by the arm 11 of a pantograph rotatably mounted at 16 on the frame and comprising four articulated arms between them, at points 7, 8, 9 and 10. One of these arms carries a tool 6 which reproduces on the workpiece 5, constituted by a grinding wheel rotatably mounted on the frame, a profile 4 which is a reduction of the profile of the template. This tool, for example a diamond of cylindrical shape and terminated by a slightly rounded point, is mounted in a support sleeve 17 so as to be able to turn around its axis and is connected by a flexible shaft 18 to a motor 19 which can also be the one rotating the grinding wheel 5.
As seen in fig. 2, the roller 12 is conical. It can rotate freely on a shaft 13 passing through a support 14 carried by the arm 11. This shaft is threaded over part of its length and can be screwed or unscrewed in support 14 to. using the operating button 15.
Let us now examine, referring to figs. 3 to 5, the process of wear of a tool in an ordinary pro son reproducing mechanism: The theoretical profile to be generated (fig. 3) is profile 1 that the tool 6 must follow in the direction of the arrows 3. This is for example the profile of a threaded part, Whitworth system.
The dotted profile of fig. 4 is the same as profile 1 and along this profile the diamond 6 is represented at different points of its course to study the wear that its profile will undergo during a complete period of its trajectory.
The amount of material to be removed with the grinding wheel is represented by a hatched area, which is of substantially constant thickness, measured in the direction of the axis of the diamond.
We see that: When the diamond is in:
EMI0002.0004
Examination of this drawing shows that the wear of the diamond is roughly symmetrical as long as it runs through the arcs that join the flanks of a Whitworth thread, but that. on the other hand, on this symmetrical wear of the diamond cap is superimposed a prolonged wear in region 8-9 when the dia rnant cuts the entire length of the left flank. In addition, prolonged, one-sided wear occurs in 14-15 when the diamond cuts in 6f, 6, the entire length of the opposite flank.
Fig. 5 schematically reconstructs the cumulative wear effects of the diamond by passage on the various elements of the profile of the thread. The horizontally hatched surface represents the roughly symmetrical to wear of the diamond cap which is due to the cutting of the arcs of a circle at the top and the cut of the thread, between points 8 and 14 of the cap . gradually dying out beyond.
The vertically hatched surface represented the additional wear which occurs when the binder in position 6 ,, fig. 4, cuts the left flank and mainly concerns the region between points 8 and 9 of the cap, stopping progressively beyond. The obliquely hatched surface represents the additional wear undergone in position 6, fig. 4, by cutting the other flank and mainly involving the 14-15 region of the diamond.
It can be seen from the foregoing that the diamond, under the effect of uneven wear of the various points of its surface, must pass from its symmetrical shape when new to a dis-symmetrical shape when it is worn. It is therefore easy to see that this deformed diamond, all of whose points describe identical trajectories under the effect of a control mechanism, cannot give the grinding wheel the shape corresponding to these trajectories, taking into account the geometric dimensions of the diamond, because the shape obtained will be the envelope of identical paths led by dissymmetric points. The sides of the profile obtained will remain rectilinear, but will be displaced and the connecting curvatures between the sides will be strongly deformed, by an amount equal to the.
loss of diamond material at its various points of contact with the grinding wheel.
Let us now return to figs. 1 and 2. To cut the grinding wheel 5, the roller 12 is moved along the template 2, for example from left to right in FIG. 1. The tool 6 will move from right to left along the grinding wheel and during this movement, which produces the cutting of the grinding wheel, it will execute, thanks to the motor 19, a continuous rotational movement around its axis, this which will make the wear of the cap equal on its periphery. The tool, thus read, will remain a body of revolution whatever its degree of wear, and will consequently retain a profile symmetrical with respect to its axis; this profile can always be assimilated to an arc of a circle, as practical experience shows.
When the wear has become appreciable, the active radius of the roller 12, that is to say the portion of this roller which is in contact with the jig 2, will be changed by operating the button 15; a new curve will thus be described in the center of this pebble; the trajectory of the cap of the tool 6 will be modified so as to exactly compensate for the wear that this cap has undergone; the profile produced on the grinding wheel will therefore remain the same as at the start.
The embodiment of FIG. 6 differs from the previous one only because the end of the arm 11 of the pantograph is connected by a connecting rod 20 to a wheel 21. When this wheel is rotated, by hand, always in the same direction, the roller 12 moves successively from left to right, then from right to left along the template 2, and tool 6 moves from right to. left, then from left to right along the grinding wheel 5. The tool will therefore wear the same amount on its left and right faces and will retain, as in the previous embodiment, a shape that is symmetrical with respect to to its geometrical axis.
Of course, the invention is not limited to what is shown in the drawing; in particular, it is also applicable to profile reproducing mechanisms in which the profiled organ is a rotary cam and not a jig.
