Process for the preparation of a quinhydron. It is generally known that benzoquinone and various other simply composed quinones can be converted into quinhydrons.
These quinhydrons are usually found as molecular compounds between the quinone and the corresponding hydroquinone, i.e. H. the compound in which both keto groups of the quinone are reduced to hydroxyl groups.
These quinhydrones could, for example, by reacting quinones with hydroquinones, in some cases also by partial reduction of the quinones or partial oxidation of the hydroquinones, ie. H. generally be obtained partly by partial change in the oxidation level of the constituent contained in the quinhydrons.
It can always be assumed here that one component is formed as an intermediate from the other and then reacts with it.
It has also been argued that the quinhydrons are not molecular compounds, but rather intermediate stages between the compound containing at least two ketone groups and the compound that is present in monomolecular form.
in which the keto groups are reduced to hydroxyl groups. Irrespective of the particular way quinhydrons are interpreted, the possibilities for their production are always the same.
It has now been found that a new and valuable quinhydrone can be produced from the corresponding quinone. if one chooses monochloro-N-dihydTO-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine as the quinone and allows the leuco compound of the dye mentioned to act on the dye.
The new quinhydrone is a dark blue-violet powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brown color and dyes cotton from blue-violet güpe in pure blue tones.
The action of the leuco inhibitor of the monochloro-N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine on the monochloro-'jT-dihydro-1,2,2', l'-anthraquinone azine can in the presence. of organic solution or. Diluents, such as alcohol, are carried out, but expediently in an aqueous medium at a low or preferably elevated temperature, for example at about 30-80, advantageously in an alkaline-caustic medium.
Example: 21 parts of 1Vlonochlor-N-dihydro-1,?, 2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine are suspended in a mixture of 700 parts of alcohol, 150 parts of water and 50 parts of 10% sodium hydroxide solution and in the presence of a nickel catalyst for so long Shaken with hydrogen until the uptake per 1 llol of dye is 1 mol of hydrogen.
After removing the catalyst by filtration at 35-40 "under hydrogen, a solution of the leuco compound is made by grinding 10 parts of l @ ionochlor-N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinonazine with 100 parts Alcohol-made dyestuff paste and 100 parts of 40 Be sodium hydroxide solution are added, whereupon the suspension is stirred for 1 1/2 hours at 70-75 ", cooled to 40-45", suctioned off under hydrogen, with a lot of air-free Water washes and dries at 80-100 '.
Ulan receives about 17 parts of blue-violet quinhydrone, while the filtrate contains unchanged, unreacted leuco compound.
