Device for powering an explosion engine. The present invention relates to a positive device for supplying an explosion engine, according to claim II of the main patent, characterized in that the means for heating and gasifying the fuel by means of the heat supplied by the engine consist of a second heating chamber intended to be traversed by a fluid heated by the heat of the engine,
this second chamber partially surrounding the chamber receiving the fuel, the means for mixing air with the gasified fuel being constituted by an air supply duct placed in the central part of the chamber receiving the fuel and provided side outlet openings, through which the air required for the engine enters this chamber and mixes with the gasified fuel,
the mixture thus formed then gaining the outlet of this chamber and going to the engine under the effect of the suction of the latter, the device also having means ensuring, in normal operation, the maintenance of a substantially fuel level constant in the chamber receiving the fuel, these means being arranged outside this chamber, and a flow sprayer, in the duct connecting the outlet of the chamber receiving the fuel to the engine,
a mixture of pulverized fuel and air having been used to pulverize it, to provide, initially at least, a supply of fuel mixture as long as the gasification is not sufficient.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
The single figure shows this embodiment in axial cross section. The device shown comprises a chamber 1 intended to receive liquid fuel to be gasified, and the wall of which is in two parts. 2, 3. Center the bottom 4 of the chamber 1 is: arranged, inside a casing 5, an electric heating body 6.
Around the lower part of the chamber 1 receiving the fuel is provided a heating chamber 7 having an inlet port 8 and an outlet port 9. The openings 8 and 9 serve to circulate inside. of the chamber 7 a fluid such as air for example, which is passed (by means not shown) in contact with hot parts of the engine, the exhaust duct for example, to raise its temperature .
The water which has served to to cool the engine and which, therefore, is at a relatively high temperature, could be passed into chamber 7.
An air supply duct 10 for the motor passes through the central region of chamber 1, into which it enters from below, and extends axially inside this chamber 1 over a little more than half the height of this room. The end part of the duct 10, through which the air coming from the outside enters the chamber 1, is constituted as follows: This end part is provided with several series of orifices 11 arranged in the form of three rings of which each extends over almost the entire periphery of duct 10.
Between the crowns of consecutive holes 11 is provided a full crown 12. On these parts 12 are mounted fins 13 in the form of truncated cones, including the. destination is to steer suitably upwards; the air leaving the duct 10 through the orifices 11. An additional fin 1.4, of the same shape as the fins 13, is attached to the duct 10 just before the first series of orifices 11. On the other hand, the duct 10 ends with a part 15 in the form of a cup, the peripherical region of which constitutes the last fin, the first being formed by the part 14.
This part 15 is fixed on tabs 16 located Î Ï, of the duct 10.
Chamber 1 has an exit port at its top, which is dome shaped. This orifice opens into a duct 17 going to the engine. This duct is provided with a butterfly valve 18, replacing the one which is usually arranged downstream of the carburetor. A nozzle 19 is arranged between the outlet of the chamber 1 and the inlet of the duct 1.7.
The fuel liquid chamber 1 is supplied at. from a duct 20 opening out at the upper part of a small constant-level tank 21 inside which is disposed a float 22 intended to maintain the constant level in this tank. This float 22 is provided with a needle 23 cooperating with the conical end of the supply duct 20, to close the latter when the level reaches the required value in the tank 21 and to open this end when this level drops below. below normal.
The tank 21 is in permanent communication, by a conduit \ 34, with the bottom of the. chatn- 1> re 1. Naturally, the conduit 24 is at a level lower than the normal level of the combustible liquid in the chamber 21.
In this way, a constant fuel liquid level is ensured inside the chamber 1 receiving the fuel. Preferably, the layer of liquid in chamber 1 will be extremely low, on the order of a few millimeters.
A sprayer 25 is provided at the top of the device. Its outlet orifice 26 opens into the duct 17, downstream of the nozzle 19. This sprayer comprises an air inlet 27 adjustable by means of an or gane 28 which can be controlled either directly by hand or from the machine. driver's seat if the device shown is placed on a vehicle. A central channel 29 connects the air inlet 27 to the outlet orifice 26.
A conduit 30, connected at one end to the conduit 20 for supplying combustible liquid, opens at its other end into a channel 31 arriving inside the conduit 29, in a direction perpendicular to the latter. The conduit: 30 is provided with a valve 32 that can be controlled either directly from the sailor or; from the driver's seat.
On the side of the chamber 7 is arranged a thermostat 33 actuating a lever 34, so as to make it oscillate in the opposite direction. needles of a watch in the drawing, when the temperature in chamber 7 rises. and to oscillate this lever in the opposite direction when it drops. The lever 34 is connected to one end of an elbow lever 35 by means of a connecting rod 36.
The other end of the bent lever 35 is connected, by a connecting rod 37, to a lever 38 integral with a pin 39 on which is mounted a butterfly 40 disposed inside the duct 10 for the air supply. .
42 is a safety wire mesh. The operation of the device shown is as follows: This device is intended to take the place of a carburetor for an explosion engine: and, for this purpose, it is fixed, by its flange 41, to the conduit for supplying the fuel mixture to the cylinder .
When it comes to starting the engine and it is cold, we act on a switch not shown to pass a heating electric current through the heating body 6. This current comes, for example, battery also used for starting. The heat released by the body 6 does not take long to produce gasification of the fuel in the chamber 1.
As soon as this gasification is sufficiently abundant, which the driver can easily see, the heating current is stopped because, from that moment, the device can continue to operate without the help of the heating body 6.
On start-up, the throttle 18 is assumed to be open and the throttle 40 never completely closes the duct 10, even in its minimum open position, suction occurs in the chamber 1 via the duct 17; under the effect of engine depression. The sprayer 25 then begins to operate under the effect of this depression, that is to say that the liquid enters its interior through the orifice 31 and is sprayed through the orifice 26 by the rapidly circulating air. through conduit 29.
This pulverized combustible liquid mixes with the air coming from the duct 10 and having passed through the chamber 1, to form a combustible mixture going to the engine.
This gasification and the combustible mixture supplied by the sprayer allow the engine to start and the fluid circulating through the chamber 7 to reach its normal temperature quickly (almost in a fraction of a minute). As soon as this temperature is reached, gasification continues thanks to the heat supplied by the fluid located in this chamber 7.
If one wishes, at the same time as one cuts the current in the heating body 6, it is possible to act to close the sprayer 25 (by acting on the members 28 and 32).
When the engine is running at high speed, the temperature in chamber 7 rises. But, at this time, the engine needs more air. To give it this excess air, this increase in temperature of chamber 7 is used as follows: The butterfly 40 opens automatically at the same time as this temperature rises, and this under the control of the thermostat 33.
It will be noted that the central arrangement of the air supply duct in the chamber 1 receiving the fuel, with its side openings 11 and its guide fins, ensures good suction of the gasified fuel and an intimate mixture of air and gas. this fuel.
The elimination outside of the chamber 1 of all the components and accessories which may hinder the free circulation of gases in this chamber is also a significant advantage.
In addition to the advantages cited here, the device shown comprises the following advantages It makes it possible to advantageously replace the carburetors of explosive engines and can be mounted very, quickly in place of a carburetor without this leading to modifications in the engine or in the exhaust system.
The fuel mixture supplied to the engine by the device described is of better quality than that supplied by the carburettors, since the fuel is gasified instead of being pulverized, which results in fuel economy.
Starting can be done easily and quickly in the coldest weather. The power supply to the heating body by the battery, in the case of a vehicle for example, does not cause any complications. The use of the. heat supplied by the engine itself by means of "hot spots" for example (hot spots), that is to say heat sockets on the exhaust duct, make it possible to avoid the use of exhaust gases themselves, which would present a certain danger in a gasification apparatus.
Tests have shown that a device of the type described makes it possible to achieve very appreciable savings on fuel.
